Social Media is about sharing, right!? That’s WHAT it is mostly, BUT there are the HIDDEN commercial intents which MOST people don’t see (OUR Privacy is sold and OUR friends one too…) and there is ALSO OUR responsibility about it WHEN WE share, WE will discuss in detail here…
First of ALL, there isn’t ANYTHING for FREE in this world, even the death costs the life and a lot of money for the funerals 😉
SO… Let us analyse WHY WE get Social Media and other services on the internet for “FREE“. BTW: there isn’t anything for FREE, WE pay with OUR information which the companies are gathering!
.
WE Are The Product
It is important to know how tech companies generally track your data and what you’re agreeing to in those terms of service agreements. Check the infographic below, please to understand.

How can WE get protected about an overuse of OUR Privacy!?
First of all, please read the article below.

You’d be surprised how many things an app can learn about you and what you do. Without you ever knowing it.
Clueful is the only way to really understand iOS apps, how they use your private data and treat your privacy. This one-of-a-kind product identifies intrusive applications and shows you what they do behind your back.

[START Text from Wikipedia] A mobile app, short for mobile application, or just app, is application software designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. The term “app” is a shortening of the term “application software“. It has become very popular and in 2010 was listed as “Word of the Year” by the American Dialect Society.[2] In 2009, technology columnist David Pogue said that newer smartphones could be nicknamed “app phones” to distinguish them from earlier less-sophisticated smartphones.[3] [END Text from Wikipedia]
As already mentioned above: “Apps are designed to run on smartphones, etc.” means that they were created, actually programmed by humans and any code has bugs!
First WE need to know that WE are working with programmed code created by humans, and as ===> Nobody Is Perfect <=== so aren’t these programs. WE must also admit that NOT any programmer has the necessary knowledge about to create code for BEST Cyber-Security, NOR isn’t it possible to create 100% secure code, there is always a certain percentage of bugs in the code, thus meaning: there will be vulnerabilities in these programs!
I invite YOU to read the article(s) below for a deeper insight:
Creating Apps In Schools For Kids And Parents: WHAT Should WE Be Aware About!?
.
Apps are NOT ===> TOYS <===! There are STRICT rules to be followed as mentioned from the ===> U.S. Small Business Administration <===:
12. If you’re dealing with financial data, health data, or kids’ data, make sure you understand applicable standards and regulations
If your app deals with kids’ data, health data, or financial data, ensure you’re complying with relevant rules and regulations, which are more complex. The FTC offers details on the regulations that your business needs to be aware of in the following guides:
Apart from programming errors, there are ALSO the bad boys (Cyber-Criminals) who are creating (programming) Apps to take the control over YOUR devices to earn money with them!
.

[START Text from TrendLabsSM 2013 Annual Security Roundup] On the mobile security front, we witnessed the mobile malware and high-risk app volume surpass the 1-million mark as early as September 2013.2. The current volume has, in fact, reached roughly 1.4 million, with 1 million new malicious and high-risk apps found in 2013 alone. [END Text from TrendLabsSM 2013 Annual Security Roundup]
The main distribution method of malware Apps is still shady apps downloaded via third-party app stores, say the Security experts! Thus meaning: download Apps ONLY from their ORIGIN website, please check below:
Smartphones Are Mini Computers With Phone Capability

.
DON’T forget that Smartphones are Mini-Computers with phone capability and so YOU MUST treat them ALSO! Thus meaning: the same AWARENESS and PROTECTION is necessary as for computers ===> ANY OS & ANY DEVICE <===!

When Good Technology Goes Bad: Evolution of Mobile Technology
March 2014
Mobile hardware is evolving at an unbelievable rate. Think about it: the cell phone you are using right now has more computing power than the computers that sent Neil Armstrong into space a few decades ago. And not only has mobile technology been advancing so impressively, but the costs associated with the technology have been decreasing, making it more widely available and adopted.
SO, now WE know about the online dangers, BUT How-To protect OUR Smartphones and tablets? Well, there are a lot of professional Security companies who offer protection tools, even as FREEWARE, check links below, please:
Talking about Privacy? YES, in some countries Privacy isn’t really (not yet) a matter, BUT in EUROPEWE fight for OURhuman right about PRIVACY! When WE work together with children WE need to take care about the DATA which is used from the kids in EDUCATION and ALSO, especially, the private data who is shared through the different APPS! MOST of people don’t even know about the word “Permissions” when THEY install APPS on their devices, and that is very BAD!
People expose so THEIR complete ONLINE LIFE (which is ALSO their private life in Real-World…) on the internet! This is THEIR “Digital Footprint” who is used by commercials to address them tailored advertising and ALSO, the MOST important, it is THEIR resume for future employers! OUR “Digital Footprint” will replace the resume in the future (even NOW already…) where employers find out what WE deed over years and SO can make a profile over their future (OR NOT) employees!
.
“When you look at most of the mobile apps, you accept the application and its privileges settings, and there is very little ability for you to customise those settings, so you either agree or disagree.
“App developers are trying to monetise their apps, because remember, most of these are being sold for $1.99 or they’re free, so the only way that they are going to make money is collecting and harvesting data, and selling it to a data house, who in turn is going to sell it to advertisers.
Are There Existing Tools To Let Me Know Which Apps I Should Be Cautious?
YES, there are FREE online tools where YOU get instant transparency while you’re using Apps on the Web or Facebook, such as App Advisor, who helps safe-guard your personal data by telling you exactly which apps you should be cautious of, before they become a threat to your privacy.
The word RESPONSIBILITY, oh YES, do YOU still know what it means? Internet shows us all again that WE are ALL responsible about OUR actions, interactions with other people, same actually as in the REAL-WORLD 😉
.
Think For More…
DON’T forget about tools (Apps) ===> THEY are ONLY as good as the person who uses them and knows ALSO which tool to use for a specific task! <===
Deep-THINKing: DON’T use a screwdriver to hit nails 😉 Thus meaning: YOUR Professional Development needs to be Up-To-Date to know which tool to use and when to use it for a quality course!
.
Some Critical Thinking: Do I really need an app to do that?
.
There are tons of different Apps around and the average user has installed at least hundred (100) Apps on its device(s)!? Aren’t users dependent (addicted) already on Apps and on using THEIR Smartphones!? Was “Albert EINSTEIN” right!? Do WE really need ALL those installed Apps? Can WE still live without the internet and the Apps!? Imagine ONLY one day without YOUR Smartphone, how would YOU feel!?
.

THE MUST HAVE Apps
Here below my non-exhaustive list of MUST-HAVE Apps:
Access everything everywhere.
With younited, you’ll always have your stuff with you. Your music, movies and photos, younited on your mobile phone, computer or tablet.
And as WE know that the NSA is spying around (Cyberespionage) it would be a good idea to look for companies located in Europe instead in the USA for stocking OUR DATA! Check below for possibilities:

Privacy In The Digital World-A MUST To Talk About It!
.
.
Since Edward SNOWDEN‘s revelations nearly everybody knows about the word “Privacy“, even those WHO were NOT interested about it, as it was worldwide broadcasted! This person did reveal WHAT is really happening in the so called “Virtual-World” (the internet) and how much secret services around the world are interested about to grab ANY information about ANY person WHO is online! BUT, it’s NOT ONLY them, ALSO Cyber-Criminals are looking for these information! And ALSO commercials who find out YOUR psychological profile through YOUR behavior on Social-Media!
.
Start Text from The Guardian:
The UN general assembly unanimously voted last week to adopt a resolution, introduced by Germany and Brazil, stating that “the same rights that people have offline must also be protected online, including the right to privacy”. Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff, and the German chancellor, Angela Merkel , were among those spied on, according to the documents leaked by Snowden.
===> The resolution called on the 193 UN member states “to review their procedures, practices and legislation regarding the surveillance of communications, their interception and collection of personal data, with a view to upholding the right to privacy of all their obligations under international human rights law”. It also directed Pillay to publish a report on the protection and promotion of privacy “in the context of domestic and extraterritorial surveillance … including on a mass scale”. <===
She told Berners-Lee that it was “very important that governments now want to discuss the matters of mass surveillance and right to privacy in a serious way”.
BUT is THAT all why I created this blog!? Certainly NOT, there is much more behind, mostly hidden by its creators BUT WHAT MUST get said to tell YOU to stay aware about WHAT YOU are publishing and on what you are get tracked in the “Virtual-World“, such as:
HTML5, NO needs of cookies anymore for Web Tracking and Geo-Localisation
===> Critical-THINKing: are WE creating a “Stalking-Society”!? <===
.
..
WHAT do the above mentioned articles really mean!?
WHEN WE are online WE are transparent already as website owners are using OUR data for commercial purposesand with posting more about OUR private life, especially on Social-Media (Twitter, Facebook and…) WE give THEM even more information about ourselves!
.
.
..
Network Hacking May Lead to Bigger Problems
[START Text from links below] While social networks don’t have your bank account information or credit card number, they may provide enough personal data for hackers to answer security questions on other sites. If you use the same password for your Facebook as your PayPal or Amazon login, hackers could then take control of these accounts. [END Text from links below]
Do WE Still Have Privacy Rights In The Digital World!?
According to latest press releases: Based on internal NSA documents, Der Spiegel reveals that the spy agency planted backdoors to access computers, hard drives, routers, and other devices from companies such as Cisco, Dell, Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor and Samsung.

THEY JUST WANT MY information?!!! WHERE is SOCIAL?!!!
Excuse-me, please, BUT I am getting more than upset about WHAT is happening actually on Social-Media!!! Online since 1998 and having reached the internet maturity (more than 21 years online…), I have serious concerns about WHAT STILL is ===> social <=== with Social-Media!!! It is actually becoming ONLY and purely a platform(s) for collecting information about persons to collect the MAXIMUM of information to GET a MAXIMUM out for state spying and commercial use to track the users!!!
I DON’T go in further in here, YOU have a brain, use it and GO for #CriticalTHINKing and #ProactiveTHINKing, worth to do!!! It’s YOUR future with #ICT, do YOU really want THIS to happen???!!! ME NOT!!!

SO, you are a retired EDUcator, TEACHer, Instructor, LEHRENDER: WHAT to do NOW?!!
Well, that was the question I was asking myself when I became retired in 2014. As I did innovation in Modern-EDUcation in my country Luxembourg, there was NO WAY to give that up, BTW! SO, years before my retirement I was already present on Social-Media Twitter (2009), Facebook, and I did Curation (2011), as I was blogging (2010-2011) ALSO, actually very successful with > 197K (197.132) views (November 2019).
Giving up something which was already well known worldwide, was NO OPTION! Well, please check below HOW YOU can stay informed and trying to help others as well; remember: you are NOT anymore in the “School-Cocoon” and MORE FREE to say WHAT YOU want!! YOU DON’T have to go to “stupid” meetings anymore which are time-killing and mostly useless!!!
A BIG difference, use it, please to make a CHANGE!! Others will listen and maybe follow your advice for a BETTER EDUcation, a Modern-EDUcation! Advice: Please check below to follow and to stay Up-To-Date!
AND, why not starting with tinkering and coding, being part of the Maker-Community and trying it out to be able to share it with your community in the MakerED, Maker-Spaces? You have time NOW, use it, please for the benefit of the LEARNERS! Check below please:
NEW Words, Trends to Know and to LEARN about in 21st Century
Are YOU feeling overwhelmed with strange words, NEW trends, when you are reading and following posts, tweets, articles about/and in Social Media!? Well, I can understand YOU!!! There are SO MUCH, if I wouldn’t do curation, I wouldn’t understand it anymore as well, to be honest! 😉 Through my daily curation I see it and I read those articles, from WHERE I learn a lot as an autodidact. WHEN there are some words which I DON’T understand I am going MOSTLY to Wikipedia to find its explication and if NOT sufficient, I use GOOGLE and other online resources to know MORE about it!
For ME it’s THE BEST way (Curation) to learn and to stay up-to-date with my Professional Development! I tried out a lot of different ways after being online since 1998 and believe me, please, it’s the fastes way to keep it UP! 😉 Through Curation I build up my <===> PKM <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management from where I can use it in ANY of my blogs, twitter posts and other Social Media to share it to people willing to learn.
Let us FIRST have a look about WHAT Curation and PKM is (first stuff to read and bring into PracTICE) before WE continue with THE strange words and trends later:
SO, let’s have a look on some (actually a lot…) NEW words and trends in EDUcation and WHO will influence EDUcation below, as THEY are actually running in Real-World, let us START first with the words:
P.S.: The present words with NOT YET a link will get updated later, otherwise I wouldn’t finish this blog post! 😉
Dynamic Learning
Does your classroom offer one-and-done types of learning activities, or does the learning grow, inspire, and evolve throughout the year and beyond? With digital tools like G Suite for Education that are available 24/7, the learning doesn’t have to stop when the bell rings at the end of class, or when the worksheet is turned in, or even when the school year ends. The learning takes on a life of its own; it becomes dynamic. This concept alone should change the way you think about learning in general and change the way you facilitate learning in the classroom.
Through Curation, Social Media twitter and by building a PLN this is perfectly possible!
BTW : Did YOU actually realize that NOW it’s the PracTICE WHICH is dominating the Real-World before it EVEN is taught by EDUcation, a BIG CHANGE, isn’t it!!! Because of Entrepreneurship (bold actions…) the internet helped to CHANGE the world and flipped EDUcation to bring it MORE close to the needs of the workforce/Industry!!!
The NEW Pedagogy is MORE about the learners, students and to put THEM into the drivers seat; looking to find a Win-Win situation about THE How-To to GET THEM learning together in a team (EVEN outside the School-Cocoon with Social Media…) and to prepare THEM for the workforce/labor/industry by being able for <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> for a Life-Long Learning once out of school!

Welcome to the official game of the 2017 FIRST Global Challenge, H2O FLOW! In H2O FLOW, teams learn about real-world water scarcity and contamination issues. In the game, two villages exist on either side of a contaminated river. The villagers compete to create and store purified water in their respective reserves. In a laboratory up stream, the villagers come together to research the contaminants and ultimately create a purification system so contaminants are removed before they reach the villages, thus providing clean water for all. In the end, each village prepares for the coming flood by searching for higher ground.
Match is 2:30 minutes long and six (6) teams are competing where one team (3 countries) is called “Aqua Team” and the other one (3 countries) is called “Hydro Team“.

Best is to watch the video below, who explains in detail:
Team Luxembourg finished 61 out of 163 teams (157 nations)!
[Ronny OSWEILER]After plenty hours of hard work, Team Luxembourg has been awarded the “Certificate of Excellence” that recognizes professional achievement, advanced education, commitment to STEM, time management and superior performance during the competition.
Congratulations to all students!
Team Luxembourg could have been 48th, if in game 5, we would have done the climbing, but due to technical reasons the robot was stuck. Those 20 points would have been important.
[Gust MEES] We will discuss this in the section “Incident in round five for Team Luxembourg“, below!

Incident in round five for Team Luxembourg
[Ronny OSWEILER] In round five, the robot of Team Canada touched our robot and disconnected our battery cable. We were unable to move for the rest of the match and lost a lot of potential points in that way. As one can see in the video, we had collected a lot of blue balls which could have been scored. Also it was impossible to climb the bar at the end of the match. .
[Gust MEES] How did Team Canada react after WHAT happend!??
[Ronny OSWEILER] They apologized for what happened. It was not their intention, as they were allied to us during that match.
Video from LAM-Code Club where one can see exactly WHAT happend, check below please (at approximately 1 min 11):

The preparation before the tournament
[Gust MEES]1) How did it start; did YOU get an invitation to participate?
[Ronny OSWEILER]The teachers at the LAM got offered the project of forming a team to represent Luxembourg by SCRIPT. We only got to know about the project very late, so time was of the essence. We had to gather a group of students within two days. As Annabel is currently studying science of education and is also interested in technology, I asked her to join me in mentoring the team.
[Gust MEES]2) WHEN did YOU start the preparations?
[Annabel SCHOELLEN] The preparations started at the end of march, when we had to gather all necessary information about the students, as well as ensure everyone has got a passport to travel to the United States. Then we had to wait for the robot, which arrived after the Easter holidays. From that moment onward, we started brainstorming on the robot to build, and prototype our ideas.
[Gust MEES]3) WHO were the responsible persons for the “Team Luxembourg”?
[Ronny OSWEILER] The main people that mentored the students while building the robot were Ronny Osweiler (teacher at LAM) , Micael Leal (teacher at LAM) and Annabel Schoellen (student in Science of Education). But the project could only be realized with the organizational help of Christian Boudot and Fabrice Roth, both teachers at LAM, as well as the direction of the LAM.
[Gust MEES]4) From WHICH schools did the students come from?
[Ronny OSWEILER]As the time for the prepartions was very limited, it was not possible to organize a national qualification contest. We took some of our most talented students, as well as some students from other schools. The students were: Laura Märker (LAM), Yannick Martins Dos Santos (LAM), Pit Baum (LAM), Kimon Leners (LAM), Lina Chen (LAM), Atreyam Sharma (École Européenne), Shawn Teusch (LGL). Pit Baum was the captain of the team.
[Gust MEES]5) Did the students travel and participate for FREE, OR did THEY have to pay a participation!?
[Annabel SCHOELLEN] The students had to pay no money for the participation at the project, otherwise I think that this could have been a barrier for potentially brilliant minds. Education and the development of technological and social skills should always be accessible for everyone. This was only possible because of our generous sponsors.
.
[Gust MEES] 6) What was the motto of the team?
.
.
[Ronny OSWEILER] For us, the team was a representation of the diversity of Luxembourg. We had 7 students with 5 different nationalities (Luxembourgish, French, German, Portuguese and Indian) . This was the reason that we took the slogan “A team as diverse as its country“. We wanted to show the other nations in Washington the acceptance and diversity that Luxembourg has to offer.
[Gust MEES] To understand the above, one must know that in Luxembourg the part of the population without Luxembourg nationality is close to 48%.
[Gust MEES] Update (25-07-2017): MarcTEUSCHand Madhumaltiwere supporting during their Washington stay! Marc was present because his son is in “TeamLuxembourg” and I made already an interview with him here:
The team got contacted by the Luxembourgish Embassy in Washington, and even got a visit from the Consul Stan Myck at their booth in the DAR Constitution Hall and by Franz Schilling during the opening ceremony. The team was also invited to visit the Embassy and was welcomed by the H.E. Ambassador Sylvie Lucas, who showed them the whole embassy and gave them historical background information about the presence of Luxembourg in Washington..
Strange things were happening, “Team BURUNDI” disappeared!
After taking part in an international robotics competition in Washington DC, six Burundi teenagers have been reported missing. Two of the students were seen leaving the US for Canada.
A police spokesperson said authorities “do not have any indication of foul play” as the investigation continues into what happened after the group attended the FIRST Global Challenge robotics competition with students from 157 nations.
Four of the teenagers seem to be in a safe place, but police are not reporting any details as yet, according to the Washington Post.
