Curation: The 21st Century Way To Learn On Its Own Pace And To Organize THE Learning?

Already since 2011 I use Curation for my learning and through it I built my “Professional Knowledge Management“, called also PKM. But WHAT is Curation?

5-Steps-for-Content-CurationFirst I was wondering about this new trend and was not sure what to do with it, but after some research on Internet about it I found out that curation to me is the best way to collect articles which I select through quality criteria, which I can archive under different topics and which I find easily back through the “Tags”, as the “Tags” play the role of a table of content. For a Life-Long-Learner like me curation is like a treasure of knowledge and information that is getting shared through the online community.

Through curation one has the possibility to FREE online learning and through sharing it on Social Media to create a community with the same interests. This community is called a “PLN” (Personal [Professional] Learning Network).

Curation could also save people of same interests a lot of time and provides them with valuable content which could get used to link back to them in written articles, blogs, web sites and social media sites. Also one learns from each other in the curation community as one has the possibility to follow interesting curation.

As an ICT course instructor most of my curation is related to educational content and so I provide the curate content to an educational audience and to people who are willing to learn. Therefore I see curation also as help for a collective global learning and a contribution to a collective intelligence.

BUT, WHY and HOW do I use Curation for my PKM (Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management)?

Content Curation gives me the freedom to OWN my learning, through well chosen sources on the internet, and by giving them the right “Tags” it allows me to find the sources easily back later. BUT first of all I read the articles before I curate them, so I learn through the reading and as more often I do this as BETTER my brain gets trained to understand very quickly!

.

Learn more:

Curation itself is nothing new, since 1998 I used the same system already with Word documents (in my documents I used keywords at that time…) to create my own learning; curation platforms although have a nice user interface, integrated Social Media sharing options and a possibility for “Tags” creation, as also included statistics!

To me, Curation together with Social Media (especially twitter) and blogging is THE BEST way to learn and ALSO for teaching online!

Synthesizing Mind-5 Minds for the future

Through THESE daily routines I learn very quick!!

WHAT is Curation And What Is NOT Curation?

.

go through worse to get to better

.

.

Most of people know WHAT “Aggregation” is, it is the simplest way to share links, YOU just forward it! BUT that is NOT “Curation“, most people didn’t YET understood this and using “Curation Services” as platforms for ONLY sharing links! That is a lazy attitude, sorry to say this!!!

Curation needs a bit effort and people, especially Educators and Teachers, need to take THEIR time to evaluate the found information by giving it THEIR insight(s) to share with OTHERS! This is very IMPORTANT, as the human can so give BETTER results as a search engine (Google, Yahoo, and others…) as the proposed results are human based, reviewed links and articles.

.

SO… Knowing NOW what Curation is NOT, let us find out WHAT CURATION IS, please check the image below, who explains it BEST.

.

How-To Use Scoop.it To Get Out BEST Curation From It

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-aigainformation1First of all, please check the FAQ’s from Scoop.it itself to find out the basics of using Scoop.it here:

A question I am getting asked very often: WHY SHOULD WE trust YOU!? Well, that is a good question and it deserves ALSO an answer. Let me brag a little bit (sorry), a MUST to explain WHY: I started with Curation on Scoop.it on ===> waiting 2 find out <=== and I got honored as ===> Lord Of Curation <=== as well as I got awarded by a ===> Rewarded PRO account <=== from Scoop.it. I hope that this will give YOU some trust on what I am posting here 😉 Check below, please to find out:

BUT, let us go NOW for the essential, HOW can WE do BEST Curation?

Well, it is actually NOT that difficult at all, BUT WE need to invest a bit of work 😉 With a lazy bone attitude WE will not come far, sorry. Good results need ALSO good preparation as well!

To do this, WE need first to understand (as mentioned already above) that WE have to give OUR insight when curating an article, thus meaning: WE need to read the article and to build OUR OWN view about it first, then curating the article and ALSO to publish OUR insight about it! Check below on practical examples, please.

Screenshots in English and in French about GREAT “Insights” from members of my “PLN” (Personal [Professional! Learning Network) to show YOU some practical examples which are worth to copy (the way how they did, not the text…) 😉

.

curation top tips

Image credit ===> http://curation.masternewmedia.org/ <===

.

I will give you some visual examples below who show you, so you can have a direct impression of it. No need to talk too much (what most of the teachers and educators do, sorry…), we go straight to the point…

.

Curation insight-1

As you can see in the above screenshot, there is some text and also some links linking to similar content… The above screenshot is taken from ===> http://www.scoop.it/t/securite-pc-et-internet?q=Why+%28And+How%29+Teachers

.

.

BUT the above shown isn’t YET enough! HOW will YOU find back later ALL YOUR curated articles and/or when YOU use the search engine in Scoop.it, HOW will YOU find other interesting curated articles? YOU need to index YOUR curated articles and this is done by the so called “Tags“.

The Tags And Their Importance

Let us first check about WHAT Scoop.it itself tells us about the “Tags“, check image and link below, please.

.

Scoop.it-Tags

Image credit ===> http://feedback.scoop.it/knowledgebase/articles/92998-6-6-3-how-can-i-manage-edit-delete-tags- <===

.

WE will look at some OTHER practical examples below as well.

Once built up some topics with your curation, you have already some articles curated under the same “Tags

What are “Tags“?

.

Tags in Scoop.it

.

In the above screenshot you can see used “Tags” from our example from http://www.scoop.it/t/securite-pc-et-internet?q=Why+%28And+How%29+Teachers. You will remark that there are a lot, and that should be as you will better find back the curated article, as well as there will be a better ranking in the search-engines…

.

Learn more about the “Tags” from Scoop.it here:

.

Having created your “Tags” on ALL your curated articles you are able NOW ALSO to post Tweets on Twitter with a specific “Tag”, see example here:

===> #Update YOUR #knowledge and/or get ready 4 #learning about ===> #Curation <=== Check ===> http://www.scoop.it/t/21st-century-learning-and-teaching/?tag=Curation

.

Re-Scoops And Their Importance

SO… WE were talking a lot already about the so called “Tags” in above mentioned content, BUT WE are coming back again to THEM, sorry 😉 Scoop.it allows it to “Re-Scoop” a curated article, thus meaning: taking over a curated article from somebody else curation to YOUR own curation, which is actually very easy to do with ONLY two (2) clicks. YOU might see on Social-Media Twitter people who are sharing a curation and that one could fit YOUR interests as well as YOU would like to have it ALSO in YOUR curation TOPICS, BUT HOW-TO do: check screenshots below, please.

.

Re-Scooping-1

Image credit ===> http://www.scoop.it/t/apple-mac-ios4-ipad-iphone-and-in-security <===

.

Click on that proposed link then and wait till the curated article on Scoop.it appears. NOW click on the green buttonScoop.it!” as shown in above screenshot.

YOU will get directed NOW to YOUR own Scoop.it account and YOU could chose onto which TOPIC YOU would like to save it, as shown in below screenshot. Make YOUR choice and save it.

.

Re-Scoop-Scoop.it-2

Image credit ===> http://www.scoop.it/t/apple-mac-ios4-ipad-iphone-and-in-security <===

.

Once selected YOUR chosen TOPIC YOU will see this, see pic below, please:

.

===> Your post has been successfully published on “Link of YOUR chosen TOPIC” <===. Click NOW that link which will open the chosen TOPIC page.

.

Check out ALSO the video about it below, please:

.

.

NOW comes the moment of truth, did the curator from whom YOU made the re-scoop brought in the “Tags“? YOU will see this by ===> check screenshot below, please.

.

Tags_in_Scoop.it

.

As the MOST of people who make curation didn’t really understand the importance of TAGS, YOU probably will see this case empty or not really well used. The above screenshot is from my own curation and shows a lot of TAGS, as it should be. Let me explain a bit about WHY:

As I am multilingual, so I curate in English, French and German, that’s why YOU see also the “Tag” => English <= which I use when the curated article is in “English”. If the article is in French, I will “Tag” it with => Français <= and when it is in German, I will “Tag” it with => Deutsch <=. So I can find back easily my articles by category (Tags). The same for the other “Tags”, YOU need to chose them very wisely, as they will be a great help for later when YOU want to share multiple articles under ONLY one “Tag”, check example below, please:

.

TOPICS: articles regrouping with Tags

Check out ===> http://www.scoop.it/t/securite-pc-et-internet/?tag=country <===

.

Click the image above to find a practical example on How-To use the “Tags” to regroup different articles into ONLY one “keyword“. This is very IMPORTANT when YOU want to share those curated articles on Social-Media, like Twitter. Here below one example which I used on Twitter, see screenshot, please.

.

Using regrouping-Tags on Twitter

.

As YOU might see, I used the same link as in OUR mentioned example above. YOU can EVEN use Twitter then to ask YOUR Learners and Students above a chosen TOPIC, like I did 😉 And the right answer came straight, thanks 🙂 This is then ALSO a NEW possibility to propose to YOUR Learners and Students where YOU propose THEM lots of different articles regrouped under ONLY one “Tag”, BUT being part of a certain TOPIC… Start NOW for ===> Deep-THINKing <=== on How-To YOU can use it in YOUR courses 😉

PKM-Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management

By going into ===> Deep-THINKing <=== YOU might have found already that the right use of the “Tags” gives us ALSO another positive side affect, WE can use Curation combined with well organized and thought “Tags” as OUR ===> PKM <===!

WE will NOT discuss here,as I created already a blog post about it. Please check below:

.

Keywords for me to realize this blog post: Curation, Scoop.it, FAQ’s, Tutorial in depth, Tags, rescooping, SEO, NOT aggregation but Curation => difference <=, insights, PKM, importance of PKM, sharing Responsibility, sharing QUALITY, related links, investing first time to save time later ==> PKM <===…

Learn Every Day a Bit-With Curation

Learn Every Day a Bit-With Curation

===> Quote: Learn every day a bit, at the end it will make a lot of bytes! [Gust MEES] <===

.

What is Curation?

.

Let me start first, please, with an introduction to “Social Media” as “Curation” is part of “Social Media” and the “Sharing Culture“, check the video below to learn more (even BEST…):

.

.

So, now I think you have understood about what it is really, it is about “Sharing“, first collecting information, analyzing that information with your “Critical-Thinking-Skills“, annotating the curated article, posting it online on your chosen curation service and sharing it with your “Personal Learning Network” (PLN).

With “Curation” the learner collects its own selected articles and by annotating them with his own comments and insights, he gives them a “value“! This “value” shows also other readers (as it is shared) why the curator has chosen that particular article! On this way “Curation” is even “BETTER” than a normal search request to the search-engines as it is handpicked and provided with a “Critical-Thinking” insight!

A very quick way of learning is created, I use it myself! My curated articles are chosen in a very selective way and mostly are from educational resources! Let me brag a bit: I was honored with the title of “Lord of Curation” from Scoop.it, one of the best if not even the BEST Curation-platform. This honor is given to the best curators. I am also present in the TOP10 curators from Scoop.it:

By checking the curated articles from (mostly) educational blogs and research papers you can make your own choice from which one you would like to learn, best way anyway is to read them all and to let your critical thinking decide, and learn on your own pace…

Using Twitter for Professional Development

.

By using ALSO Twitter together with Curation and by building up a “Personal Learning Network” (PLN) you are able to learn and to teach in the same moment! See above screenshot and also my insight with other links directing to important articles… When reading those curated articles and FREE courses you will be able to learn on a very quick way, try it out; here below the link to the related and curated article:

LEARNing To LEARN with ICT-How-TO? My PracTICE

As MOST of YOU know, I am an autodidact, a self-directed learner. I learn BETTER by doing it on my own, by searching my own articles, relevant to the topic which needs to get learned. Pursuing ALSO my learning by choosing the books which I decide to buy for my Professional Development! This time YOU will see a lot of “I’s” in my blog post here, different from usual, where I mostly use the WE. WHY!? Because it’s ME who is owning MY learning and I decide WHAT is BEST for me, that is working perfectly, I learn MUCH quicker! 😉

Another reason WHY I learn on my own is the BAD quality of courses around where adults are getting treated as pupils (Pedagogy) and NOT as mature persons (Andragogy)!! Aged 62 years (2017), I DON’T want to get treated as a 12 years old in courses, I won’t feel comfortable at all!! It’s about time that EDUcators, TEACHers, Instructors get training about ANDRAGOGY!

WHAT is Andragogy?

Text from Wikipedia: Andragogy refers to methods and principles used in adult education.[1][2] The word comes from the Greek ἀνδρ- andr-, meaning “man”, and ἀγωγός agogos, meaning “leader of”; it literally means “leader of man”, whereas “pedagogy” literally means “leading children”.[3]

Check out also my PracTICE, the How-To I gave courses for adults and seniors on Andragogy concept below, please:

You might be interested as well to find out about:

FIRST of all, DON’T fear about learning new stuff, even if it feels strange and NOT understandable up from the beginning! There might be strange words in the learning texts which YOU don’t know YET; but by reading different texts you will understand these words and later understanding ALSO the whole! I learnt that way, it takes time on the beginning, BUT later you will learn very quickly! It’s like an exponential curve

Owning the LEARNing

Personally I am convinced and PracTICE with students, learners showed me ALSO, that when owning its learning boosts learning and even accelerates it!! The learners are more motivated to learn as they are engaged in the learning process! I did THIS MOSTLY through Curation! Learn more below please:

My Modern Knowledge as I am retired…

programmerman-animatedI recently met some young female teachers, educators in a Restaurant and as I am a very social person I started in to a discussion: I love to talk to find out what persons are around me and IF from EDUcation, guess, I can’t STOP to talk about Modern-EDUcation, Modern Pedagogy and for sure about Modern-Learning (THE MOST important for ME!).

Whiles the discussion was going on, THEY asked me my age and my function. THEY were surprised to know that first that I am retired (nearly 65 years old) and about my knowledge ABOUT Modern-EDUcation, Modern Pedagogy and for sure about Modern-Learning!! THEY asked me how that could be possible that I have MORE knowledge about it as THEM as THEY got the latest knowledge from Universities, according to THEIR diplomas… THEY heard (they were informed…) about the new, BUT WHEN I told them THAT  I was using it ALREADY in 2002-2003 as an innovation in my country Luxembourg, they were perplex!!!

Well, looks like Universities are NOT YET UP-To-Date then?! I explained THEM that I am an “Autodidact” and a Life-Long-LEARNing person and that I made my “Professional Development” MOSTLY on my own!! SO, I could LEARN on my own pace with my personal LEARNing-Concept, check below please for more:

I made them ALSO awake for a NEW way of EDUcation, back from the OLD and Un-LEARNing the old to acquire the NEW Modern-EDUcation:

I encouraged THEM to become #LifeLongLEARNing persons by adapting to become an autodidact:

I told THEM ALSO, that soon THEY will GET used to Coding, programming as THIS is part of the National Strategy of #DigitalLuxembourg and #Digital4EDUcation, there THEY were skeptic about it, BUT today (06 February 2020) the Ministry released it:

Learn more / En savoir plus / Mehr erfahren:

When I was asking IF THEY were present on Social-Media Twitter, YES I have an account BUT… Well, THEY didn’t see the interest really in it and I gave THEM my Twitter account to follow to find out about the How-To one could do it ===> @Knolinfos. Please check ALSO my Blog post below:

Well, enough talked; BTW a week later I had some more followers from Luxembourg (NOT using a VPN…)… WHAT is a VPN actually? Please check below my Curation:

And WHAT is Curation? Check below please:

BTW: Concerning being a retired teaching person, THIS might be of interest to you; please check my Blog post:

A certain moment we came up ALSO to talk about civilized behavior, OMG THEY told me!!! I was telling my experiences with a Bus-STOP 30 cm in front of the entrance of the house and one told me that she knows very well such an experience because of her grand father!!! Please check below my video about it to understand WHAT actually is going on:

.

Concerning the behavior, I will create later another blog, stay tuned 😉

THEY JUST WANT MY information?!!! WHERE is SOCIAL?!!!

programmerman-animatedExcuse-me, please, BUT I am getting more than upset about WHAT is happening actually on Social-Media!!! Online since 1998 and having reached the internet maturity (more than 21 years online…), I have serious concerns about WHAT STILL is ===> social <=== with Social-Media!!! It is actually becoming ONLY and purely a platform(s) for collecting information about persons to collect the MAXIMUM of information to GET a MAXIMUM out for state spying and commercial use to track the users!!!

I DON’T go in further in here, YOU have a brain, use it and GO for #CriticalTHINKing and #ProactiveTHINKing, worth to do!!! It’s YOUR future with #ICT, do YOU really want THIS to happen???!!! ME NOT!!!

THE stupidity of companies to ask (force!!!) for a 2FA authentication… BUT in the mood actually, WHY???!!!

WE are in 2020: It is well known THAT a 2FA authentication ISN’T anymore secure, proven by Cyber-Security experts and EVEN the FBI reported and sent out awareness posts!!!

SO, first of all let us find out about WHAT a 2FA is to make sure THAT WE understand WHAT WE are talking about, please check below for more information:

WHAT is happening NOW (January 2020)?!!! Companies like Twitter and Google (Gmail) are forcing people (users) to give THEM their smartphone number (telephone number) to create a new account and/or in case of any trouble with an account to ONLY get unlocked the account by giving THEM the telephone number, like Twitter does actually!!! WTF is THIS for an unethical behavior to force people (users) to GET THEIR phone numbers for WHAT EVER reason?!!! Check some screenshots below please…

.

.

THUS meaning: I can’t GET a Google Gmail account WITHOUT giving THEM my phone number, WTF is THAT???!!! THEY have already collected ALL my information, my behavior etc. and NOW THEY want ALSO to have my phone number under the guise of security, seriously???!!!

And WHAT’s about Twitter (as mentioned above)? THEY try out a new trick; one gets a message from THEM that one is detected as a robot behavior and considered as a Spam producer??!!! Really??? Well, this happens to me since 02 January 2020 ( a #HappyNewYear message…)!

.

.

Looks like Twitter’s algorithm ISN’T working well, as I didn’t break any rules! It is ONLY the 3d time that THIS is happening to me, BUT this time (08-01-2020) I didn’t get a return (reply) message from them after 6 days!!! Strange, looks like THEY will force me to unlock my Twitter account for the solely reason of getting my phone number, as I asked THEM to unlock my account manually, which didn’t happen till NOW!!!? THEY DON’T get my phone number, NO WAY!!!

OK, enough complained now: Let us have a look WHY I created THIS blog post to show YOU the stupidity of a 2FA authentication, check below please:

My last Twitter posts for information before I got locked my account by Twitter:

.

SO, dear readers, followers, friends: NOW you know for which reason you didn’t see ANY activity from me…

A stupid Twitter algorithm with a bad following HELP line(???)…

Will get updated IF something NEW…

SO, you are a retired EDUcator, TEACHer, Instructor, LEHRENDER: WHAT to do NOW?!!

programmerman-animatedWell, that was the question I was asking myself when I became retired in 2014. As I did innovation in Modern-EDUcation in my country Luxembourg, there was NO WAY to give that up, BTW! SO, years before my retirement I was already present on Social-Media Twitter (2009), Facebook, and I did Curation (2011), as I was blogging (2010-2011) ALSO, actually very successful with > 197K (197.132) views (November 2019).

Giving up something which was already well known worldwide, was NO OPTION! Well, please check below HOW YOU can stay informed and trying to help others as well; remember: you are NOT anymore in the “School-Cocoon” and MORE FREE to say WHAT YOU want!! YOU DON’T have to go to “stupid” meetings anymore which are time-killing and mostly useless!!!

Check ALSO please:

A BIG difference, use it, please to make a CHANGE!! Others will listen and maybe follow your advice for a BETTER EDUcation, a Modern-EDUcation! Advice: Please check below to follow and to stay Up-To-Date!

AND, why not starting with tinkering and coding, being part of the Maker-Community and trying it out to be able to share it with your community in the MakerED, Maker-Spaces? You have time NOW, use it, please for the benefit of the LEARNERS! Check below please:

NEW Words, Trends to Know and to LEARN about in 21st Century

programmerman2Are YOU feeling overwhelmed with strange words, NEW trends, when you are reading and following posts, tweets, articles about/and in Social Media!? Well, I can understand YOU!!! There are SO MUCH, if I wouldn’t do curation, I wouldn’t understand it anymore as well, to be honest! 😉 Through my daily curation I see it and I read those articles, from WHERE I learn a lot as an autodidact. WHEN there are some words which I DON’T understand I am going MOSTLY to Wikipedia to find its explication and if NOT sufficient, I use GOOGLE and other online resources to know MORE about it!

For ME it’s THE BEST way (Curation) to learn and to stay up-to-date with my Professional Development! I tried out a lot of different ways after being online since 1998 and believe me, please, it’s the fastes way to keep it UP! 😉 Through Curation I build up my <===> PKM <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management from where I can use it in ANY of my blogs, twitter posts and other Social Media to share it to people willing to learn.

Let us FIRST have a look about WHAT Curation and PKM is (first stuff to read and bring into PracTICE) before WE continue with THE strange words and trends later:

SO, let’s have a look on some (actually a lot…) NEW words and trends in EDUcation and WHO will influence EDUcation below, as THEY are actually running in Real-World, let us START first with the words:

Check also, please:

P.S.: The present words with NOT YET a link will get updated later, otherwise I wouldn’t finish this blog post! 😉

Dynamic Learning

Does your classroom offer one-and-done types of learning activities, or does the learning grow, inspire, and evolve throughout the year and beyond? With digital tools like G Suite for Education that are available 24/7, the learning doesn’t have to stop when the bell rings at the end of class, or when the worksheet is turned in, or even when the school year ends. The learning takes on a life of its own; it becomes dynamicThis concept alone should change the way you think about learning in general and change the way you facilitate learning in the classroom.

Through Curation, Social Media twitter and by building a PLN this is perfectly possible!

BTW : Did YOU actually realize that NOW it’s the PracTICE WHICH is dominating the Real-World before it EVEN is taught by EDUcation, a BIG CHANGE, isn’t it!!! Because of Entrepreneurship (bold actions…) the internet helped to CHANGE the world and flipped EDUcation to bring it MORE close to the needs of the workforce/Industry!!!

The NEW Pedagogy is MORE about the learners, students and to put THEM into the drivers seat; looking to find a Win-Win situation about THE How-To to GET THEM learning together in a team (EVEN outside the School-Cocoon with Social Media…) and to prepare THEM for the workforce/labor/industry by being able for <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> for a Life-Long Learning once out of school!
