Safer Internet Day 2020 – Save the date!.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.

Safer Internet Day 2020 will be celebrated on Tuesday 11 February 2020, with the strapline of ===> “Together for a better internet” <=== following the success of last year’s campaign.

I created a ===> #GlobalCollaboration blog in 2017 <=== from  (my pseudo on twitter) & @ICTPHMS  for  about . The authors are from Luxembourg/Europe (me), one female teacher from the USA and a male teacher from the USA WHO are using my blog post to learn together and sharing THEIR practice with YOU dear readers.

Let us talk about Hygiene…

Strange, I make an introduction about Hygiene in an Cyber-Security Blog, ISN’T it?!! Well, there is a reason behind:

WHEN WE use a computer, Smartphone and/or any OTHER technical device (such as cars as well…) WE need to take care of them! AND our body? The same: WE need to have the daily reflexes to make for sure that WE don’t expose it to invasions of bacteria, virus, etc. Examples given: brushing teeth, showers, washing the hands after a toilet go, washing the hands before and after a meal, etc. Wearing a Condom when having sex, a necessary protection! Well OUR condom for the technical devices is the Anti-Virus, a MUST for Any-devices!!! Any-Devices, Apple as well?!!! YES!!! Please check the WHY in my Curation below please:

WE are used to these reflexes, aren’t WE?! At least WE should be!! SO, for computers, Laptops, Smartphones, tablets (iPads etc.), IoT devices (Smart-Home), WE should do the same, they costs a LOT of money and expensive stuff should get taken care of!! THE OTHER reason as well is, THAT WE are using the internet with THEM and so WE are meeting OTHER people with OUR technical device (which ever one it is…).

SO, that exactly the same as WHEN WE are meeting (as persons) OTHER people in Real-World: WHEN WE have a flu, WE will infect OTHER persons with it and an epidemic will occur!! WHEN OUR technical devices (which ever one it is…), connected to the internet, are NOT Up-To-date with the latest Updates they are vulnerable to threats (see it as a virus, e.g.) and once infected, WE will infect ALL the OTHERS as well (epidemic…)!!

As WE use these #AnyDevices with #AnyOS on a daily base, WE SHOULD be aware and develop a sense of Responsibility to protect each other!

Chat iconWE were already discussing about Twitter-Chats to use for <===> Professional Development, called ALSO “Teacher Training” (in Luxembourg/Europe) in my following blog posts:

It’s time to reflect on the way HOW they get used; are THEY used correctly OR are they ONLY reflecting the use of Technology WITH OLD EDUcation Mentality!?

Well, I must say (sadly…) that Twitter-Chats are mostly used with THE OLD EDUcation Mentality! Thus meaning: there isn’t any reflection about the published posts, NO analyzing about WHAT was understood and WHAT NOT!!! And that is a shame which needs to get done BETTER!

It’s a feeling like being back again in time WHERE a lesson was taught and nothing later happend, excuse-me please: that is NOT #ModernEDU!!!


WHAT needs to get changed for BETTER!?

  • Once a month make a break with Twitter-Chats and provide a blog post with reflecting on the weeks before; analyze the posts and give tips, advice for doing, learning BETTER…
    • Make it a Twitter-Chat by including the blog post and use it as a Twitter-Chat to get feedback on the analyzing…
    • Update YOUR blog post with the feedback given…
  • Create ALSO in this blog post the best links, resources provided by the tweeps (participants in the Twitter-Chats)…
  • Show the archives from that month on YOUR reflecting blog post…
  • Create an “End of The Year” blog post after 12 month, reflecting the whole year of Twitter-Chats…
  • Create a keyword list in these blog posts about the Topics
  • Create a list of the tweeps: Twitter username with link to the tweeps, so that the readers can connect directly with the participants… YOU may use Twitter-lists to do so…

I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.

Safer Internet Day 2016 will be celebrated on Tuesday 09 February 2016, with the strapline of ===> “Play your part for a better internet” <=== following the success of last year’s campaign.

PracTICE: How DOES The Internet Help ME In My Private Life, Professional Development, Job AND Career

programmerman-animatedI am a pioneer and was always one of the first to try out NEW stuff since my young age, very curious about it WHAT that could be and WHAT would be my advantage to use it. Let us call it <===> Learning By Doing <===> to get some knowledge, skills and experience out of that adventure 😉 Did I say <===> adventure!? <===> YES, it is actually! An adventure to discover NEW stuff where one doesn’t know where it will end 😉 BUT it is a BIG fun ALSO and one learns a lot through it! This attitude brings one ALSO to a <===> Life-Long LEARNing <===> strategy which I wouldn’t miss, whatever age one has! I am actually (2015) aged sixty (60), retired since 2014 (pedagogical/andragogical ICT Instructor) and STILL learning on a daily base as it is a pleasure for me.

It is ALSO a pleasure for me to share my knowledge with OTHERS (especially EDU related people) on Social Media Twitter, through curation and blogging. The internet (I started 1998) is a GREAT resource and a wonderful <===> Virtual World <===> which needs to get discovered and where WE need to know ALSO its dangers, same as in <===> Real World <===> let us call it <===> Awareness and Digital CitiZENship!

Before WE start, the above title is a long one, let us break it down to the different Topics: private life, Professional Development, job and career.


How Does The Internet Help ME In My Private Life!?

programmerman-animatedAs already mentioned I started using the internet in 1998 with a very slow 56k Dial-Up Modem (which made ALSO a lot of noise…) and I found out about the search engines and the How-To to find information on it. Then I discovered about Cyber Security problems, virus and Co by reading specialized Computer-Magazines. YES, that existed already at that time!!! I was telling OTHERS about those threats; THEY told me that I am crazy as THEY didn’t realize its existence! SO… I continued learning about it and I became a vigilant internet user. Knowledge and skills which I developed through the years, see on the bottom of this blog post, please.  BUT, as a normal user, how can the internet help me in my private life!?

Well, a lot actually: I can check for Restaurants, I can book my holidays online, I can buy stuff online, I can book nearly WHATEVER I want online, I can search for BEST prices online for WHATEVER, I can prepare my holidays with special interactive maps (ThingLink), I can use “Google maps” to find my way, even with “Streetmap” which makes my traveling much easier, I can find cooking and baking recipes as well as tutorials on YouTube, I can share my experience and life experience through blogging and curation

And I use Twitter as well. Through the internet I learn much more quicker, especially through <===> curation!

Internet safety is the responsibility of EVERYONE! It isn’t actually THAT difficult to apply a healthy behavior on the internet to stay secure, one needs to have some reflexes, daily reflexes… Let us call them <===> CyberHygiene <===> as they are about care anyway.

WHAT do WE have to take care about!? Check below please:

  • Updates about our “Operating System” (OS)
  • Updates about so-called “Third Party Programs”
  • Back-up from our files and/or the whole Hard Disk
  • Installation of protection-software, anti-malware, anti-spyware tools included…
  • Protection of our privacy
  • Encryption
  • Secure Passwords

MOST of the above mentioned are automated tasks, SO NO way to NOT use THEM 😉 GET used to IT! GET the reflexes!

          • First of ALL, check my blog ===> Cyber-Security Practice: Learn it in one week <=== and follow ALL the steps.
          • Chose a day in the week where YOU control YOUR updates and YOUR computers & mobiles security! I suggest the Friday, as I created on Twitter the “Friday Security Check Day“, hashtag = #FSCD. Get used to it on any Friday, get THE reflex!
  • On any second Tuesday on each month Microsoft and Adobe publish new updates, install THEM! THEY are a MUST! It’s the Patch-Tuesday!
  • Introduce a pledge in YOUR family, where every family member MUST sign and accept it! It will give a Community feeling and RESPONSIBILITY!

First of all, this blog post is NOT made for bragging BUT shows WHAT could get obtained while being a Life-Long Learner! In a world WHO is changing quicker then WE can follow (MOSTLY), it is important to stay up-to-date about WHAT’S going on around and this on a daily base!!! I am a Life-Long Learner since +/- 45 years already (I am 60 now) and it is a pleasure for me to learn! I want to share my passion with YOU and trying to give YOU that virus ALSO 😉

Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===> Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!? 

YOU won’t have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? 😉

I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!

I did THE <===> ICT PracTICE <===> and THAT’S WHAT the workforce needs!!!

When I was 45 years old I became unemployed (I was a manager in electronics at that time…) and I was struggling to find a new job, NOT easy at all for that age 😦 I accepted even to work for 45% less money earning (got adjusted by unemployment agency to 100%) and to change my daily suit wearing to a blue collar suit to make sure to have a job again… During that period I was following a lot of courses. In 2002 I became an ICT Course Instructor” by having followed pedagogical courses (April to July 2002) from “eLuxembourg” (certificate FORM/03/2002/017). YES, with 47 years old I studied Pedagogy for four month to give ICT courses, very hard, BUT I did it! I found my vocation, my passion, where I gave pedagogical and andragogical (Adult Learning / Andragogy) courses to people from 11 to 79 years old for 9 years before I was out of the system (because of heavy health problems) and became retired.

I encourage YOU to get some courage AND show WHAT YOU are capable to do! Maybe YOU don’t know HOW GOOD YOU are!? YOU have NOTHING to lose, ONLY to win! Personally I won an international contest (German speaking countries) in 1979 about electronics which gave me a new job, a higher paid job, a publication in an “Electronics Magazine (ELO)” and a NEW career which was THE beginning of my career path as you actually know now!
