Introduction

programmerman-animated[GM] AND once again Dan KIRSCH and Gust MEES are making Global-Collaboration to show YOU dear readers, parents, EDUcators, TEACHers, THE problems encountered and the solutions which WE propose to YOU for a BETTER, a Modern EDUcation by professional advice. Teaching and Coaching life isn’t easy at ALL! Especially NOT WHEN persons with an Up-To-Date Professional Development in EDUcation create NEW ways of learning with ICT, Technology and NEW Pedagogy. Rare are the people WHO understand WHAT is actually going on in the world and especially in the “Virtual World”, the internet!!! And THEN using it ALSO for giving courses, come on, a world which MOST DON’T understand!??? That sounds like blasphemy, isn’t it!? People GET thrown out of THEIR normal life, THEIR Comfort-Zone, their well feeling Cocoon in the society in which they live!

WE as authors understand THAT it isn’t easy to understand HOW FAR Technology is ALREADY and THAT MOST people won’t understand it neither, BUT WE as TEACHing, Coaching persons MUST follow UP with it and LEARNing the NEW stuff as well as giving the NEW acquired knowledge to the kids to make THEM ready for the Society WHICH is waiting for professional workers/employees! A very hard job, BUT WE love OUR profession and SO WE do WHAT WE think is the BEST for YOUR kids (OUR kids as well)…

This time the authors, WE, are talking about Social-Media in EDUcation and its benefits for the LEARNers, Students, YOUR kids.

THE authors (as usual) will show up in this blog post with THEIR initials such as <===> [DK] for Dan KIRSCH and [GM] for Gust MEES.

.

Let us talk first WHAT Social Media is to understand it and its influence!

[GM] It is IMPORTANT first to know WHAT it is, whatever WE are talking about, so please check the video below please 😉

.

YOU certainly GOT a GOOD overview about WHAT Social Media is NOW, right!? SO, let us GO for a deeper insight by following my curation about it as well, please:

As YOU have certainly understood NOW WHAT Social Media is YOU will agree THAT it isn’t anything BAD, there are ONLY certain rules to accept, actually the same as in Real-Life BUT with a bit MORE prudence! In Real-Life YOU are NOT connected with the whole world, BUT in Virtual-World YOU are, so keep YOUR mouth shut for WHAT YOU wouldn’t tell YOUR grand mother WHEN using Social Media 😉 WHEN working with Social Media one MUST consider having taught already about <===> Digital CitiZENship <===> WHERE the learners, students have learned already about those rules.

Learn more by reading my and OUR collaborative blog posts here, please:

Here below a NEW holistic view of WHAT SHOULD get taught: THE Digital Intelligence, called also “DQ”.

Problems in EDUcation while using Social Media in Modern EDUcation – Acceptance and rejections

WE will discuss here some problems which could occur with a practical example; online friend and co-author “Dan KIRSCH” will tell YOU about:

Dan KIRSCH[DK] The problem with sharing TEACHABLE lessons via social media; from an Educators perspective is explaining to parents/guardians it’s purpose is to be a LIFE LONG LEARNER. Essentially, educating other teachers on new ways of TEACHING content to their students. As well as being a LEARNER myself; finding other useful information and teaching ideas from other EDUCATORS via SOCIAL MEDIA. For instance, this year I created a Physical Education Twitter  account in order to showcase what my STUDENTS were LEARNING in class and to hopefully provide ideas for teaching Physical Education to other Physical Education teachers around the globe. On a personal note I created the account also to learn knew ways of teaching Physical Education from other teachers who were on Twitter. Unfortunately, I shut these account down due to privacy concerns. Privacy is a major concern of mine and is something I take very seriously as you can read in blog posts on Digital Citizenship written by Gust and myself. I informed by administrators to write a letter informing my students parents/guardians on “WHY” I use social media in Physical Education class. The following link is the parent letter I wrote. I have also provided links to showcase the importance of using Social Media for Professional Development and growing your Professional Learning Network (PLN).

Why is Professional Development For Physical Educators So Important? #infographic

.

[DK] The following is a Physical Education Twitter Chat ==> #PEChat I follow in order to learn ideas of how to teach Physical Education as well as sharing my ideas with other teachers (why I have my blog). Again, learning and growing with other Professional Educators via Social Media!! That is the goal and why it needs to be understood and accepted!!.

[DK] The following infographic also lists several #Physed hashtags that Physical Education Teachers can follow on Twitter. The rationale (as previously mentioned) is to collaborate and LEARN new ideas of how to teach Physical Education from other Professionals around the world. This is the issue we must get across to parents/guardians; it is a method of making their child’s educational experience better!!!

[GM] Thank You Dan for YOUR insight here and YOUR encountered experience, which certainly isn’t fun at all for You and any other teacher, educator, instructor, coach, who encounter such a situation and WHO want to use Social Media in EDUcation. It would be interesting to know WHY this particular parent was reacting so, especially because none of its children were involved!

Let us remember the benefits of sports and body activities as well as the use of Technology and Social Media:

.

[DK] Speaking of Collaboration the following link ==> http://bit.ly/29qzY4k is a google drive shared folder between several Physical Education Teachers around the United States who have joined and shared their ideas/resources for teaching Physical Education! Life Long Learning/Collaboration at it’s best!!!

The following paints a perfect example of how to incorporate ICT within Physical Education and it’s importance within Modern Education!! Follow ==> Andy Hair on Twitter ==> @MrHairPhysEd. [DK]

Framing in EDUcationThere are NEW ways of teaching AND especially about and WITH “Social Media” in <===> #ModernEDU <===> and co-author and online friend [Dan KIRSCH] will tell YOU!

[DK] There a variety of ways of teaching with Social Media! For instance, in my current position as a public K-12 Physical Education (PhysEd) teacher there are several methods in which I use Social Media in class (even though PhysEd is not usually associated with Social Media and/or ICT). First off, the major reason I incorporate Social Media within my PhysEd classes is to learn new methods/activities to teach to my students! This includes; new lesson plans, how to set-up perceptual motor centers, instant activities, and cooperative learning activities etc…

The major player in learning these new activities via Social Media is the use of Twitter!! I have followed several PhysEd teachers on Twitter who utilize the Social Media platform to showcase what their students are learning as well as collaborating during twitter chats! This is a perfect segue into another reason why I use Twitter, which is to teach other PhysEd colleagues different activities and strategies I use within my own PhysEd classroom!! It provides a way of collaborating with other teachers around the country as well as continuing the process of being a Life Long Learner! The collaboration process via Twitter allows those Physed teachers and other teachers of different content areas to learn about new mobile apps and technologies that can be implemented with in the PhysEd classroom!

For example, the use of video recording apps, music apps, stopwatch apps, and other technologies are brought to the forefront via the collaboration that takes place on Twitter. Finally, it allows me to showcase what my students are learning during class. This is where blogging comes into play. I use my blog ==> mrkirsch.edublogs.org as way to show parents/guardians what their children are learning in PhysEd class; whereas without technological advances and platforms this would be possible!
