How-To Start: requirements and where to buy the Raspberry PI
Being since years a BIG fan of Arduino and doing a LOT of projects with it, I was thinking about to start ALSO with the Raspberry PI. Here below my advice and thoughts….
As actually there is a NEW version available, THE “Raspberry PI 4”, which ISN’T compatible mostly with other versions (as far as I understood…), AND that the “Desktop Kit” ISN’T available yet, I STOP here and waiting for WHEN it is available to make a decision IF I will START with it!!!

Maker Inspiration-WHERE to GET Information to Stay Informed?
Well, you jumped in into the world of makers (OR want to do SO soon…) and you feel comfortable with it? You found out THAT it is important to learn about THAT movement as it brings out creativity and a BETTER understanding in EDUcation WHEN one touches the stuff and it is done by YOURSELF???!!! You learned THAT <===> #LEARNingByDoing <===> is VERY important???!!! THEN, of course you would like to stay informed about WHAT is going on around in the world of THAT movement, ISN’T it???
I would suggest you to read my following blog posts first, please, before I will give you some VERY interesting links to stay Up-To-Date:

Today on 10-10-2016 I visited THE pioneer of the Hackerspaces in Luxembourg-City <===> https://level2.lu/ <===> and I was heartily welcomed by Georges KESSELER, the president of this Non-profit Hackerspace (ONG). As already mentioned, I said pioneer, THIS place was the first in Luxembourg. Georges proudly showed me the rooms with ALSO professional explications about the realized projects and what fore THIS place is..
.
A “Hackerspace” is a place where people with similar interests in technology, science, art, culture, and making meet. Activities are not in the slightest restricted to only computer science, but also emerge from electronics, contemporary art, photography, and any and all other pursuits worth sharing. The hackerspace offers a turnkey infrastructure to its members where innovative projects that would not come to life in a garage, can find nourishment and support.
There is ALSO a weekly CoderDojoin Luxembourg at the local HackerSpace every Thursday at 18:00. It is intended for 12-18 Year olds (but younger Kids are welcome too).
Let us talk ALSO about WHAT THAT term of “Hacking” means actually as it is often misunderstood. “Hacking” doesn’t mean ONLY hacking a computer etc., even there is a difference between “Ethical Hacking” (White Hat Hackers) and “Criminal Hacking” (Black Hat Hackers). It refers ALSO to transform something from its ORIGIN meant use to a different one; so TODAY we speak about “Life-Hacks“, “Kitchen-Hacks“, “Cooking Hacks“, “Beauty Hacks“, “Electronic Hacks“, etc.
Concerning the questions and answers WE will use initials such as:
[GM] for Gust MEES
[GK] for Georges KESSELER
[GM] I first was asking Georges [GK] WHAT he would like to have as a message from the content of THIS interview. He told me that probably the MOST important would be to find NEW active members able to run projects together with others. As a reminder: The Hackerspace “LEVEL2” is working on the “Open Source Mentality“, read Linux community; there are NO Windows computers and/or devices present. THEY hack around the “RaspBerry PI” ALSO. It’s a “Learning-By-Doing” community, Geeks, and NOT a “Repair shop” for computers as certain people thought it is…
Questions:
[GM] How many members do You have?
[GK] WE have about 60 members actually.
[GM] WHEN did YOUR “ONG” Non-Profit Club got founded?
[GK] WE started about 2009 in STRASSEN and moved to Luxembourg-City in 2014 where WE are located now.
[GM] WHAT’S the origin of YOUR name “SYN2CAT”?
[GK] Read it as “Syndicate”; it’s actually, as it is a Linux community, a derive from the “TCP protocol” where “syn” and “cat” are UNIX and LINUX commands and/or part from a protocol.
[GM] WHAT’S the origin of the name “LEVEL2”?
[GK] Well, WE are located on the level two in the building 😉 AND ALSO as it is OUR second “Hackerspace” as THE one in STRASSEN closed!
[GM] HOW do YOU get financed as a Non-Profit Club?
[GK] WE live through the membership fees and some donations.
[GM] You are located in the “House of Youth”, “Maison de la Jeunesse”<===> http://maison-jeunesse.lu/, this shows the confidence and importance THEY give to YOUR club. Do YOU have to pay any rent?
[GK] We get part of the rent sponsored…
[GM] Well, lucky-wise some money that YOU don’t have to spend and which helps a lot to survive. SO, HOW are YOUR projects get financed THEN!?
[GK]There are different ways. For private (own) projects: you can use the infrastructure. For Community project you can get full financing: https://wiki.hackerspace.lu/wiki/Funding This funding method is also used for equipment acquisition (video projector, 3D printer)…
[GM] Was YOUR initiative as a Hackerspace the ORIGIN of “Makerspaces” in Luxembourg?
[GK]YES! One of OUR members, Marc TEUSCH iniated them.
I made ALSO an interview with the responsible people of the EDUcation for “Makerspaces” in Luxembourg and I visited the The flagship makerspace of the national Youth Service SNJ“ “BASE 1” at Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg-City. Please check below:

The author Georges KESSELER (a.k.a. Gunstick) is president of syn2cat asbl, moderates the club’s monthly Lët’z Hack radioshow and is also involved in the recently created HaxoGreen asbl organizing an outdoor hacker event every 2 years. He is a big fan of retro computing and chiptunes having lived himself the era of Amiga and Atari ST and acquired a multitude of skills through self teaching from 3D design over workbench skills to micro-controller programming. In his rare spare time he invites fellow hackers to join into his muscle hacker (think: yoga) sessions or goes on vacation for some extreme roller coaster rides. He likes to give other people insight in his vast know-how on a very large spectrum of subjects. From circus arts over astronomy and laser graffiti to geocaching. You can find him on Facebook and twitter.

Through ICT the Real-World and especially the Virtual-World (both are influencing each other…) are changing quicker then WE can learn about, BUT WE must adapt to it and so must EDUcation! Therefore Universities must do research about the How-To to adapt and teaching about it… Luxembourg, a small country in Europe is doing so in September 2016, read more:
Luxembourg has already a “strategy to promote media literacy” as I got told in an interview, see image below please and click on the image to access the article.

There is ALSO Finland WHO made a radical change to its EDUcation-Sytem, check below please: Finland uses <===> Phenomenon based learning
Meanwhile, before research finishes its studies, WE can already have a look on WHAT is NEW in Technology and WHAT probably would be of interest for EDUcation, as well as NEW Pedagogy Theories and NEW Trends:
Because of the internet and Social Media there is NOW ALSO a new way of learning through collaboration, Global Collaboration, Peer-To-Peer Learning, mentoring, coaching:
WHEN WE talk about “Entrepreneurship“, then WE MUST ALSO talking about “Blockchain and Bitcoin” as THEY are a Game-Changer in the future, check below please:
AND as WE are using ICT: internet with iPad, tablet, smartphones, laptops, PCs, Macs, small computers such as Arduino,Raspberry PI and Co, the “Internet of Things” WE MUST ALSO have basics knowledge of “CyberSecurity“, check below please:
MY experience described in ONLY some phrases: Give the LEARNers, students (whatever age) the freedom of LEARNing without squeezing THEM into a FRAME and concentrate on guiding them as a coach by analyzing THEIR behavior and show them the How-To to become self-directed learners, autodidacts. SHOW THEM ALSO up from the beginning WHAT THE <===> LEARNing Path <===> will be with design of it and explain THEM that they could design themselves it with a short introduction on the How-To. THEY will learn the ICT-PracTICE which will help them once out of the <===> #SchoolCocoon <===> to be ready for Life-Long LEARNing and to be able to adapt very quickly in the workforce! WHEN YOU show the LEARNers, students <===> WHAT the profit is for THEIR private life <===> YOU will engage them very quickly 😉 AND DON’T teach THEM more as necessary, propose them some links to go further ONLY for those who want!!
.
WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?
Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===>Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!?
YOU won’t have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? 😉
I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!
I did THE <===> ICT PracTICE <===> and THAT’S WHAT the workforce needs!!!
Due to my eSkills I could share my knowledge AND expertise ALSO with the below mentioned as well as to a broad range of visitors from around the globe!
AND check my profile below as well, at the bottom of this blog post please! 😉

Before Starting With Coding WE MUST know first the IMPORTANCE and the big RESPONSIBILITY about ===> Coding <===! Responsibility while Coding, sounds STRANGE, isn’t it!?
Well, I think the BEST way to explain YOU WHY ===> Proactive THINKing and RESPONSIBILITY is a MUST <=== in Education, is to show YOU some examples on WHAT happens WHEN code goes wrong!
And WHAT about ===> Copyright!? <=== DON’T FORGET to tell YOUR students, learners, about it as well. The above mentioned is A MUST as it will develop ===> Critical THINKing and Proactive THINKing <===!
SO… NOW as WE discussed about WHAT NOT TO DO, let’s GO for trying out how WE can give courses about ===> Coding <=== 😉
