As every new year there is a new challenge to perform for a BETTER Professional-Development for TEACHers, EDUcators, LEHRENDE, Instructors. Especially for Modern-EDU, Modern-Pedagogy, Modern-Learning there is still a lot to LEARN! Here below some thoughts in form of quotes from me.

EDUcators, TEACHers, Instructors, LEHRENDE Online on SocialMedia
Well, it is nice and necessary to see people from EDUcation online, BUT THE way they post, the mentality behind makes me worry!! Bringing in NEW stuff with an OLD, outdated pedagogical mentality, running the SAME way as usual; THAT can’t work!!!
That reminds me a bit the century WHEN the first books were published and how many time it took to GET used to it and to bring it into EDUcation! THE fact is: it is HERE and it will STAY HERE! GET your mind OPEN and learn about the NEW <===> Modern-Pedagogy FIRST before you post ONLY about it by using mostly (ONLY) Apps, OER, and OTHER technical facilitators!!
As I mentioned it in above phrase, THAT are ONLY facilitators, which as YOU use THEM with OLD way of TEACHing won’t make THE necessary CHANGE!! IF you haven’t read yet those two books which I recommend strongly you won’t understand WHAT Modern-Pedagogy is and WHY it is necessary for OUR students, learners to succeed in an ever changing world!!
.
The MOST dangerous…
People WHO are following OECD online and getting THEIR E-Mail notifications (Newsletter) will for sure know it, BUT very rare are those online EDUcators, TEACHers, Instructors, LEHRENDE resulting from my analyzing on Social-Media Twitter!! AND even by reading the books, HOW MANY are understanding or willing to understand it as it is AGAIN the OLD way THEY will use it?!!!
And THEY are posting on the way as IF THEY would be STILL in a Class-Room, THEY DON’T understand THAT the WHOLE world is seeing it, listening to it <===> OUT of #SchoolCocoon Mentality <===> OPENMind, please!!!

Maker Inspiration-WHERE to GET Information to Stay Informed?
Well, you jumped in into the world of makers (OR want to do SO soon…) and you feel comfortable with it? You found out THAT it is important to learn about THAT movement as it brings out creativity and a BETTER understanding in EDUcation WHEN one touches the stuff and it is done by YOURSELF???!!! You learned THAT <===> #LEARNingByDoing <===> is VERY important???!!! THEN, of course you would like to stay informed about WHAT is going on around in the world of THAT movement, ISN’T it???
I would suggest you to read my following blog posts first, please, before I will give you some VERY interesting links to stay Up-To-Date:

Tips To Become an Autodidact, Self-Directed Learner
As most of you know already, I am an autodidact, a person who is learning on its own. I can choose WHAT to learn, WHEN to learn, in WHICH order I learn the different topics and HOW quick I will learn! AND especially WHERE I will learn; not necessary in a school, BUT online and from books! That is what makes me learning very quick and to understand it also! As I am getting asked very often (people are astonished about…), so I decided to write this blog post to give some TIPS, how YOU can do also <===>#LEARNing2LEARN for #LifeLongLEARNing <===> with pleasure.
TIPS to become an Autodidact,Self-Directed LEARNer (it’s NEVER to late to START!):
AND, once you have learned about creating a blog, use it ALSO for your hobbies, you will have pleasure (fun) to do so and you will learn NEW things also 😉 (secret tip!).
You may find some inspiration and ideas from my Hobby Blogs:

First Steps with the Arduino-UNO | Maker, MakerED, Coding | Sensor-Kit SKA-36
.
Got my package delivered with my ordered ArduinoSensor-Kit today (2 days later than expected…). First impressions: nice plastic suitcase (helps me to keep order…), 60 pins quality breadboard and cable-set, 40 sensors and a downloadlink (www.joy-it.net/sensorkit/) for the code and description in German. The mentioned link isn’t up-to-date anymore and one gets redirected to another website http://sensorkit.joy-it.net/index.php?title=Hauptseite in German.

Some basic knowledge is necessary to get started with the sensors:
We need to know that for some project with sensors there is a special library which needs to get included into the sketch and that the results (measures) will get shown in the “Serial Monitor” as the “Sensor-Kit” doesn’t include a LCD-Display.
Find out more yourself with the links below, please:
TIP for beginners: first copy&paste the code and let it run; check where are variables in the code, change them and see WHAT happens. You will understand the about how the code works 😉

KY-050 with Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 and Arduino Tutorial
Well, I didn’t like much the German description, so I was searching on the internet and I found some tutorials in English with a video tutorial, one simple sketch and one sketch with an LCD as well, very interesting <===> Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 and Arduino Tutorial
Please check the videos below who explains very well how the code works:
Here below some values measured shown in the “Serial Monitor“:

The Temperature/Humidity Sensor KY-015
In the original IDE this sensor isn’t included yet, WE need to install it on the IDE. By checking the description website of the Sensorkit-SK36-KY-015, WE get told that the module needs a library to get included in the sketch and it’s also mentioning some download links. Actually the description (in German) is poor and I got worried! So I decided to look around on the internet and I found a BETTER description (in English) on the official Arduino website <===> Installing Additional Arduino Libraries <===>
BUT the BEST tutorial I have found is on the Arduino website itself <===>DHT11 Temperature/Humidity Sensor <===> with a lot of screenshots and a step by step instruction from where to get the code of the library, how to install it, and an example sketch.

WHAT gifts to buy for the kids for Xmas and Holidays?
Every year the same question, isn’t it!? WHY not thinking about to buy gifts from where and with that the kids will learn? It might be good to have a look on WHAT are the skills required for the future from youth, students, learners and upon that making your choice! Actually (2017) the trends are in the maker scene and coding scene! Engineers, coding people and ICT specialists are needed, the workforce, industry is searching!!
What is the maker scene?
I invite you to read my bog post about it below, please:
In the Makerspaces as well as in Maker-EDUcation the creativity and PracTICE are getting fostered to be prepared for what the workforce and the industry are needing! The kids, students, learners are Learning-By-Doing and that is with fun involved also! They are not only tinkering around but they get coached in a “NO Hierarchy” space; in Luxembourg. SO, they can communicate with each other to solve problems and as well later also doing the same through the Social-Media and forums. They learn also by that way to build teams and are able for team-work later once out of school.
.
Team-Work is one of the essential skills which students, learners need to have for the future! Read also my blog post below, please, which explains WHAT the skills for the future are:
In the above blog posts you will find information what is happening and you can contact the responsible persons for more information; let your kids go there and have fun by LEARNing-By-Doing! 😉
What is the coding scene?
Coding is the 21st Century skill. Coding enhances creativity, teaches young people to cooperate, to work together across physical and geographical boundaries and to communicate in a universal language. Technology is part of our life, and coding brings it closer to you!

STILL following “WE have ALWAYS done it this way” OR ALREADY on Growth-Mindset!?
Well, when analyzing posts from EDUcators, TEACHers from around the world on Social-Media twitter since 2009 already, I must admit (excuse-me please…) that MOST of THEM are still on a Fixed-Mindset! Very rare are those who have already adapted their mind to 21st Century Modern-EDUcation, just following the (m)asses in twitter-chats which are rigorously following one solely task <===> getting EDU-Stars <===> and using the tweets (advice, practice…) to publish books about it!!
Most of EDUcators, TEACHers are STILL on a <===> Fixed Mindset <===> acting with outdated pedagogical behavior and NOT willing to change it! THEY praise how good they are with an incredible arrogance (mostly from Germany and the US) and even are blocking OTHER educative persons as they don’t fit in their outdated scheme!!
Feedback is NOT welcome to those persons as they don’t have yet understood WHAT Social-Media is; they still think that they are in THEIR classroom AND in THEIR country and can do WHAT THEY want!! Well, that isn’t for sure the case. On Social-Media, especially on twitter, other EDUcators, TEACHers from around the globe can interact and give their feedback (if they are courageous enough…)! One posted tweet goes around the world and isn’t anymore national!! On the internet there are NO borders!!!
Giving feedback the wrong way by Fixed-Mindset (with outdated pedagogical background…) is ALSO the wrong way!! WHEN one talks (post on Social-Media) one is MOSTLY interacted with adults and NOT pupils! Thus meaning: there SHOULD NOT Pedagogy to get used BUT <===> Andragogy!!! A lack of knowledge (Professional Development is a century behind…) by using ICT and Social-Media by posting that half-baked stuff is harming anyprofessionals of EDUcation!
THOSE EDUcators, TEACHers on Social-Media WHO are leading some Twitter-Chats are doing a WRONG LEADERSHIP in the sole purpose of becoming infamous <===> EDUStars <===> and DON’T take care about the right leading way!! WHEN after four (4) OR five (5) years of running a twitter-chat one is still on the same path and didn’t come much further, one should ask WHY!!
MOST EDUcators, TEACHers are focused on TEACHING and NOT on LEARNING; that’s already a Fixed-Mindset as in Modern-EDUcation WE are already since long on the way how students, learners can go for BETTER learning and especially on <===> LEARNing-To-LEARN <===> for <===> Life-Long LEARNing!!
Social-Media shows very well, by analyzing, WHAT’S going on in Virtual-World and ALSO shows WHERE EDUcators, TEACHers have to work hard on to become BETTER!! Using modern tools ALONE ISN’T Modern-EDUcation; it’s the Mindshift from Fixed-Mindset to Growth-Mindset first by using ALSO Modern Pedagogy!!
Actually (July 2017), the Growth-Mindset ISN’T YET used by MOSTLY EDUcators, TEACHers as THEY DIDN’T have read the last research books from <===> Carol DWECK <===> NOR that THEY follow any other research!! THEY choose the easy way, instead of being informed to give THE BEST EDUcation to OUR students, learners!
In their groundbreaking book, Professional Learning Communities at Work, Richard DuFour and Robert Eaker say it clearly when pointing out the issue that comes about when change initiatives are considered “a task to complete rather than an ongoing process.” If we really want to improve our schools, our work, and the education of our students, we can do so by adopting a new mindset — for everyone — that would include:
Being humble enough to accept that there are things about ourselves and our practices that can improve
Becoming part of professional teams that value constructive critique instead of criticism
Treating setbacks as formative struggles within the learning process instead of summative failures
Realizing the restrictive role that timelines can play in reaching high standards, and using foundational philosophies such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to map systems so that everyone’s growth is supported
Create flexible grouping at all times so that nobody’s trapped in any one course level or particular type of work.
As mentioned earlier, technology integration is a process that is incorporated in lesson planning. It is not about picking up an app and forcing it into teaching to make it more attractive. With pedagogy steering the process, the first step is to identify the learning objectives. Typically, the teacher will then decide on the methods and assessment tools to achieve learning objectives in a student-centered learning environment.
EDUcators, TEACHers STILL think as being pressed into a special scheme, the <===> #SchoolCocoon scheme <===> instead of thinking as <===> NO BOX <===>, nor is EDUcation in collaboration with the working-force and industry!! THAT collaboration, especially, is a MUST in the 21st Century, please check below:
It’s a fact: digital skills are now needed for most jobs. And industry is best placed to assess market needs and work-based skills gaps. The solution? Offering more training in Information and Communication Technologies, and bridging the gap between research and industry.
There is an interesting twitter chat to follow, WHO goes a bit deeper in Modern-EDUcation<===> #EdChatMENA!
VERY rare are <===> Professional EDUcators, TEACHers <===> WHO are present on Social-Media twitter!! THEY are STILL a minority, in the hope that THIS will change in the next years and THAT THEY will NOT get blocked by counterfeit LEADERship from OTHERS!!! There is a need for more courage from professionals to fight this!
Lots of EDUcators, TEACHers show up on Social-Media with “Authority” (the control freaks…), and have NO idea about <===> Creativity <===>, NOR <===> Critical-THINKing <===> BUT showing up as THE EXPERTS on Modern-EDUcation!! I recommend THEM to read the articles below:
Concerning <===> Creativity <===>: WHAT’S about to put it in ALSO in blogs!? WHY EDUcators, TEACHers post nearly ONLY text!??? WHY don’t they put in blogs videos, podcasts, photos, images (Multimedia)!!? WHY don’t THEY use FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) in blogs!?? About time to get adapted to Modern EDUcation, isn’t it 😉
I recommend to read the following books to understand WHAT Modern-EDUcation with modern Pedagogy is to improve the presence on Social-Media and especially to BETTER serve OUR students, learners!
.
.
It is about time to read these books and to understand the content about it!!
WHY!??? I will give YOU a comparison: Actually on Social-Media this looks like if EDUcators, TEACHers would use Social-Media as if THEY were living in the 20th Century and using THEIR first phone!! GOT IT!??? 😉
TOO MUCH is concentrated about single actions WITHOUT a concept, nor strategy behind! FIRST step to do is to START with a concept and a strategy, in whatever country YOU live!
To find out WHAT other countries are doing already who started as pioneers is probably the BEST way to get some ideas; let us have a look on Luxembourg where the Government created <===> Digital Luxembourg AND Digital4EDUcation.
.
.
The pace of technological change is faster than ever, creating entirely new types of jobs and industries. Novel skills are required for new technologies to be used and shared. The workforce of today and tomorrow needs to be digitally savvy and enterprising. This is why the Government, together with a number of private players, work jointly on preparing current and future generations for the digital age. The Luxembourg Tech School is a project, which has been launched to train future digital leaders. Kick-starting innovative projects that benefit the country, Digital Lëtzebuerg – together with the Ministry of Education and the SCRIPT, supported the Luxembourg Tech School from day one. Discover for yourself what the 32 students of the first intake have been up to!
.
.
Let us have ALSO a look on WHAT Finland is doing:
Instead of control, competition, stress, standardized testing, screen-based schools and loosened teacher qualifications, try warmth, collaboration, and highly professionalized, teacher-led encouragement and assessment.
At the University of Eastern Finland’s Normaalikoulu teacher training school in Joensuu, Finland, you can see Hietava’s students enjoying the cutting-edge concept of “personalized learning.”
NEVER forget about <===> ETHICS <===>, stay humble and act as <===> Professional EDUcators, TEACHers <===> THE ones WHO are ready to give THEIR students, LEARNers BEST EDUcation!! Be role models on Social Media!!
.
.
IF YOU want to have an intelligent world and professional professions, it starts by YOU, EDUcators, TEACHers! It’s YOUR responsibility!! Please check the PIC below 😉

My participation for the SID2017
WHAT is special this year with my participation on SID2017?
I created a ===> #GlobalCollaboration#blog <=== from @knolinfos (my pseudo on twitter) & @ICTPHMS& @kimmindy7 for #LEARNing about #DigitalCitizenShip. The authors are from Luxembourg/Europe (me), one female teacher from the USA and a male teacher from the USA WHO are using my blog post to learn together and sharing THEIR practice with YOU dear readers.
Well, there is a lot of different views about ===> Digital CitizenShip <=== WE will explore WHAT could be THE BEST way to teach and to learn about Digital CitizenShip (hashtag on Twitter is #digcit).
How does it come that I post Global-Collaboration blog posts? Well, once the #ProfessionalDevelopment is Upto-Date, one does understand THAT learning in a team brings out a win-win situation and that a generation exchange is benefit for all of the participants as anyone learns from each other. BTW: here below other Global-Collaboration blogs with teaching persons from Australia, USA, France, Luxembourg (me):
Cyber-Security is a shared responsibility, WE are ALL responsible for a more secure Internet and it is ===>OUR responsibility to build up the future for OUR kids, learners and students!<===
WE can do it by learning and teaching the basics of Cyber-Security and ALSO by helping international organizations such as “Safer Internet Day” to become a catalyst for such a difficult task!!!
.
======> WE are living in a world of connected technology, Cyber-Security is a MUST!!! <======

WE are really lucky today because of ICT and the internet to learn about electronics; it was NEVER THAT easy as today!! WE can find simulation software as well as schematics drawing software online and/or for download as for FREE (Open Source and FREEWARE). I remember 49 years ago when I was 12 years old and tinkering around, using curiosity to find out on the How-To things were working by disassembling them, whatever it was… Later, I was working after school (12 1/2 years old starting till 20 years…) around on any place in the village (farmer, café, gardening for private persons, etc.) to earn some money to be able to buy me necessary stuff for my electronics lab…
Nowadays WE GET all the necessary stuff online and WE DON’T need anymore to purchase an oscilloscope and a Multimeter for measuring as one can simulate everything straight on through FREE software. I am feeling HAPPY for that as it allows LEARNERS from any society status to learn about electronics!
Please check below for useful articles on Software:

Building a Variable Power Supply With Few Components
Click the image please to enlarge
In previous tutorial Maker-First Steps in Electronics, the basicsWE got a bit the PracTICE of soldering and WE learned ALSO about schematics, resistors, LEDs, diodes and OHM’s Law. WE used ALSO a 9 Volt battery as a power supply for our projects; BUT batteries are expensive (3,99 €) and when playing around a lot on experimenting WE would use a lot of them. This will certainly be the case as on the beginning while tinkering around, my personal experience, as one is curios and tries out everything. Which is good by the way, but better is to build a variable power supply for few money and for small projects like WE are working on.
SO, let us have a look on the schematic about WHAT WE will create next. WE will discover some NEW components, such as a voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC), a variable resistor (potentiometer), capacitors, electrolytic capacitors… which WE will learn more about as well in this tutorial.
WE had already the experience with a stripboard, which we will continue (on the beginning) to build our variable power supply. It will be a very easy one with ONLY 10 components to solder on the stripboard. The tension will be adjustable by a potentiometer (variable resistor) from 0-24 Volts and a maximum current of 1 Ampere. WE will ALSO provide it with a switch so that we can ALSO use it as a Volt-Meter to measure the tensions on our strip-board projects…
WE will ALSO learn to drill and to rasp as WE will enclose our project into an enclosure; well mechanics are part as well when one tinkers with electronics 😉
WE will solder measure points on the strip-board as well. so we can learn about measuring and to understand what is going on when AC gets through a rectifier bridge and becomes DC…

Schematics
Electronic Schematics – Need-To-Know
BEST explication I have found and WHICH I agree!!! Electronic schematics are like recipes for electronics. They tell you what ingredients to use and how to mix the ingredients. But instead of using text to explain the recipe, a drawing is used.
Please check below the photo to get familiarized with the parts.
.
.
In above image WE see parts which we used already in first tutorial <===> Electronics Starter Kit for Makers <===> such as resistors, diodes and the stripbord. NEW components are (please check the links below to learn more):
This time WE will ALSO need to use some tools and mechanical parts; well electronics without mechanics doesn’t exist 😉 Will get explained in a new tutorial…

First tests without the transformer
I propose to make the first test(s) without the transformer; by using a 9 Volts battery! This to make sure that there isn’t any mistake on the wiring as a short-circuit could cause damage!! Check photo below please:

Using a copy of the schematics and a pen to erase the done connections already; this allows to keep an eye on how far one is…

Safety FIRST as WE are working with 230 Volts!!
I will propose two different projects, one for NEWBIES and one for advanced users! NEWBIES will NOT solder the transformer on the stripboard, BUT will connect it to the stripboard by <===> Safety FIRST rules <===> and advanced users could solder it on the stripboard by respecting these Safety rules! WE will use ALSO heat-shrinking tubes to insulate ALL the components where 230 Volts is connectedto assume that nobody could touch them to avoid electrical shock by touching!!!
I am NOT the guy WHO follows any rules, BUT THESE ONE I follow myself ALSO as it is mandatory!! YOUR life and/or the life of OTHERS could be in danger if NOT followed!!! SO, take YOUR responsibility, please 😉 Well, enough blabla, let us have a look WHY:
Let us protect and ALSO our workbench with a plastic underground (plastic is insulating…), check below please:

Two different projects, one for NEWBIES and one for advanced users: thus meaning; NEWBIES will NOT solder the transformer on the stripboard, BUT fixing and connecting it apart! Advanced users will be able to solder the transformer on the stripboard by taking care of safety rules, check above image please for connected transformer on the stripboard and image below please for transformer connected with wires to the stripboard .

Building UP from the beginning a system for wiring
WE have two different possibilities for the wiring and connection of the components on the stripboard:
Using really wiring with colored insulated wires
Using ONLY the copper strips on the stripboard to make the connections
OR using both as I did in above; one red colored wire was used to make a connection…
.
WHEN WE use the wiring with colored insulated wires, we need to have a system in it, let us define UP from the beginning which colors mean WHAT! I propose this:
Red for the “PLUS” of DC Power Supply
Blue for the “Minus” (Ground) of DC Power Supply
Green for the connections of AC
White or blank silver wire for bridges on the stripboard: connections from one component to the other…

Nowadays WE have the chance to profit from FREE Simulator software to examine the How-To circuits work, please find below some useful links:
Well, first build the above and finish it! Later WE will bring in ALSO some test points (soldering them on the stripboard) for measuring the voltage on different points and we will solder as well on the stripboard some more components to protect out project against short circuits, an electronic fuse with ONLY five (5) components. WE, once finished the above mentioned will then go for mechanical works as the whole will get fit into an enclosure. There will be then a bit drilling, rasping and…

Some electronics projects made +/- 25-30 years ago, check video below please 😉 I stopped tinkering around for the peace of our conjugal life, well wife was right! I had to much hobbies; NOW I am retired and I have too much time, SO I started again…
