NEW Words, Trends to Know and to LEARN about in 21st Century

programmerman-animatedAre YOU feeling overwhelmed with strange words, NEW trends, when you are reading and following posts, tweets, articles about/and in Social Media!? Well, I can understand YOU!!! There are SO MUCH, if I wouldn’t do curation, I wouldn’t understand it anymore as well, to be honest! ūüėČ Through my daily curation I see it and I read those articles, from WHERE I learn a lot as an autodidact. WHEN there are some words which I DON’T understand I am going MOSTLY to Wikipedia to find its explication and if NOT sufficient, I use GOOGLE and other online resources to know MORE about it!

For ME it’s THE BEST way (Curation) to learn and to stay up-to-date with my Professional Development! I tried out a lot of different ways after being online since 1998 and believe me, please, it’s the fastes way to keep it UP! ūüėČ Through Curation I build up my <===> PKM <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management from where I can use it in ANY of my blogs, twitter posts and other Social Media to share it to people willing to learn.

Let us FIRST have a look about WHAT Curation and PKM is (first stuff to read and bring into PracTICE) before WE continue with THE strange words and trends later:

SO, let’s have a look on some (actually a lot…) NEW words and trends in EDUcation and WHO will influence EDUcation below, as THEY are actually running in Real-World, let us START first with the words:

Check also, please:

P.S.: The present words with NOT YET a link will get updated later, otherwise I wouldn’t finish this blog post! ūüėČ

Dynamic Learning

Does your classroom offer one-and-done types of learning activities, or does the learning grow, inspire, and evolve throughout the year and beyond? With digital tools like G Suite for Education that are available 24/7, the learning doesn’t have to stop when the bell rings at the end of class, or when the worksheet is turned in, or even when the school year ends. The learning takes on a life of its own; it becomes dynamic. This concept alone should change the way you think about learning in general and change the way you facilitate learning in the classroom.

Through Curation, Social Media twitter and by building a PLN this is perfectly possible!

BTW : Did YOU actually realize that NOW it’s the PracTICE WHICH is dominating the Real-World before it EVEN is taught by EDUcation, a BIG CHANGE, isn’t it!!! Because of Entrepreneurship (bold actions…) the internet helped to CHANGE the world and flipped EDUcation to bring it MORE close to the needs of the workforce/Industry!!!

The NEW Pedagogy is MORE about the learners, students and to put THEM into the drivers seat; looking to find a Win-Win situation about THE How-To to GET THEM learning together in a team (EVEN outside the School-Cocoon with Social Media…) and to prepare THEM for the workforce/labor/industry by being able for <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> for a Life-Long Learning once out of school!

What else should I care about?

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-attenzionearchitettofr01Protect YOUR health: Hazardous solder fumes are harmful to your health!! SO, make sure to NOT put your nose over the soldering and to breath, please! NOR to have drinks on the working place and to drink during the soldering where the soldering takes place!! Be VERY carefully ALSO about on How-To handle the soldering iron; it heats up to 150¬įC-450¬įC (30 Watt / 80 Watt)!!¬†NEVER touch the soldering iron underneath the insulating part (on the metal) as it may be ignited and you may have severe burns!!!

Reflections on a professional STRATEGY for eSkills-eLeadership

Reflections on a professional STRATEGY for eSkills-eLeadership

.

Evolution of Education: Wordle Logo

.

WHICH Strategy could WE use for professional eLeadership and eSkills!?

Well, giving pedagogical and andragocical (Adult Learning) courses since 2002 and being a Life-Long Learning person and interested (and experienced…) in resolving problems and finding NEW ways for BETTER Learning, here below my thoughts, ideas and strategy for a professional approach for #eLeadership and #eSkills. As YOU might have found out, anything starting WITH a prefix such as “e”; e.g. #eSkills comes from the EU. Let us talk first about the vision that the EU has about #eSkills:

.

Manifesto: get an overview of challenges & opportunities outlined by experts .

[Start text from the MANIFESTO 2015] Much has been written about the digital skills gap and whether Europe is falling behind in the race for digital talent. After some spectacular declines in ICT education enrollments and graduate numbers in the first years of the new millennium, the European Commission developed a long-term e-skills strategy to reverse the worrying trend. Now, and since 2010, the number of ICT students is growing again. The good news today is that there are signs that the rate of growth is quicker than expected. [END text from the MANIFESTO 2015].

Check ALSO on Social Media Twitter <===> #eSkills

First of ALL, to make THIS clear: THERE are more than one actor(s), NOT ONLY EDucation as MOST people would probably think!!! There are (and NEW possibilities as well…):

  • Education (which has a primordial role to play and a HARD task to propose courses on a VERY quick way…)
  • Life-Long Learning activities proposed by the Government(s)
  • And WHAT about #autodidacts, self-learning persons!?
  • And WHAT about the Learning on the workplaces itself!?
  • Private life: Tailored courses at home from professional instructors…
  • Professional instructors giving tailored courses about #eSkills around the country to form more professional instructors to give those tailored #eSkills courses to others: ¬†I remember #eLuxembourg WHO initiated the “Internetstuffen” in Luxembourg; a similar action could get taken!
    • Let us call THEM <===> eSkills Key Instuctors!

On a deeper view (#DeepTHINKing) ALL the mentioned actors mentioned above MUST work together to reach that ambitious goal! THUS meaning, anybody SHOULD¬†have the rights AND the possibility to contribute for any countries <===> #eLEADERship <===> run through #eSkills competency! Well, this said I recommend a national website about <===> #eSkills and #eLEADERship <===> with a forum (discussion board…) as well as a discussion on the professional network <===> LinkedIn <===>.

.

WHAT is done in Luxembourg?

Here below what I know so far:

.

WHAT are eSkills actually!???

eSkills is an action-call from the EU to make people, especially workers/employees stronger in and with the use of ICT to be competitive on the world market! THIS said, WE MUST look first on WHAT the workforce needs from skills from students/workers/employees, let us have a look:

Based on the above I created a concept:

THAT concept is mostly based on the <===> Synthesizing Mind <===> from Howard GARDNER.

Synthesizing Mind-5 Minds for the future

I recommend YOU to read the following books in this order:

  1. 5 Minds for the Future (Howard GARDNER)
  2. FOUR-DIMENSIONAL EDUCATION
  3. The App Generation

.

MUST READ BOOKS

These mentioned books are THE ONES who were guiding me in my Learning and believe me, THEY will change THE way how you are seeing EDUcation, and they will certainly make you moving for action! Action in and about <===> ModernEDU!

WHAT is Leadership actually and WHAT SHOULD it be in 21st Century!?

WE can’t ANYMORE relay on OLD Leadership as NOW WE have two different worlds: The Real-World and THE Virtual-World WHICH are influencing each other!¬†Leadership needs to GET changed and WE have to adapt to it!

Leadership-Business Time-Global[START text from Business Time Zone Global Info] The architect leader knows that the ability to create a nourishing and challenging environment for people to grow in is more important than any technical skill she can possess.

Continuous Improvement ‚Äď The leader of tomorrow will regularly challenge old beliefs and be passionate about learning and about applying that learning in the real world. She will often ask my favorite question ‚ÄúWho is doing something differently then I am and what can I learn from them?‚ÄĚ

The New Leader is Authentic. How and who you are is just as important as what you know! Hold yourself to the highest standards ‚Äď don‚Äôt talk the talk unless you are prepared to walk the walk. Don‚Äôt expect of others what you don‚Äôt expect from your self. Be real, tell the truth. The leaders that are the most revered are those that let the light of who they are shine through in all they do. They are honest, forthright and clear.

Coach/Facilitator ‚Äď A leader needs to be a coach not a commander. He needs to hold space open for things to happen. It is said that when leaders do their job properly people believe they have done it themselves. Leaders are there to help people see things from a different perspective, to provide questions that encourage learning and to help turn work experiences into learning experiences.

Our new leader is a Visionary. It’s clearly documented that visionary leaders are successful at mobilizing human potential. A vision provides focus. It’s a tool for aligning energy. Clear vision and purpose provide people with a framework from which to make decisions, it organizes action and effort. [END text from Business Time Zone Global Info]

Therefore Universities must do research about the How-To to adapt and teaching about it… Luxembourg, a small country in Europe is doing so in September 2016, read more:

Luxembourg has already a¬†‚Äústrategy to promote media literacy‚ÄĚ as I got told in an interview, see image below please and click on the image to access the article.

.

Digital 4 EDUcation-Luxembourg-2015-2

Click the image please to access the article.

.

There is ALSO Finland WHO made a radical change to its EDUcation-Sytem, check below please: Finland uses <===> Phenomenon based learning

Meanwhile, before research finishes its studies, WE can already have a look on WHAT is NEW in Technology and WHAT probably would be of interest for EDUcation, as well as NEW Pedagogy Theories and NEW Trends:

.

DQ

.

Synthesizing Mind-5 Minds for the future

.

.

.

There will be a focus on Creativity as it was neglected too long in schools.

Because of the internet and Social Media there is NOW ALSO a new way of learning through collaboration, Global Collaboration, Peer-To-Peer Learning, mentoring, coaching:

AND as there is a global change in the way of HOW WE think about EDUcation, there are NOW ALSO <===> #TEACHerPreneurs:

There are ALSO drones and robots which could get easily integrated into Makerspaces and/or labs:

.

Blockchain

Click the image please to access the article.

.

WHEN WE talk about “Entrepreneurship“, then WE MUST ALSO talking about “Blockchain and Bitcoin” as THEY are a Game-Changer in the future, check below please:

AND as WE are using ICT: internet with iPad, tablet, smartphones, laptops, PCs, Macs, small computers such as Arduino, Raspberry PI¬†and Co, the “Internet of Things” WE MUST ALSO have basics knowledge of “CyberSecurity“, check below please:

.

.

WE need ALSO to know about “Privacy“, “Digital Footprint” and “BIG DATA“, check below please:

In Europe, from the EU, there is already a manifesto for ModernEDU (eSkills), check below please:

And shouldn’t WE talk ALSO about “AI”, Artificial Intelligence?¬†

And last but not least Apps. I put Apps on the END of this list as Apps are ONLY facilitators, it is Pedagogy FIRST!

.

With ALL the above mentioned possibilities, how can WE already NOW make a concept of LEARNing?

NO Framing in EDUcationWith ALL the above mentioned possibilities, how can WE already NOW make a concept of LEARNing? Please check my blog post below:

.

What is nearly for sure is THAT most courses will be PracTICE orientated, check my blog posts below, please:

And here WHAT probably will be the future, check below please:

How can WE get informed more about!? I advice YOU to read following (multilingual) books and to follow the mentioned persons below:

MUST read books to understand WHAT #ModernEDU is, see PIC below please.

.

Framing in EDUcationMY experience described in ONLY some phrases: Give the LEARNers, students (whatever age) the freedom of LEARNing without squeezing THEM into a FRAME and concentrate on guiding them as a coach by analyzing THEIR behavior and show them the How-To to become self-directed learners, autodidacts. SHOW THEM ALSO up from the beginning WHAT THE <===> LEARNing Path <===> will be with design of it and explain THEM that they could design themselves it with a short introduction on the How-To. THEY will learn the ICT-PracTICE which will help them once out of the <===> #SchoolCocoon <===> to be ready for Life-Long LEARNing and to be able to adapt very quickly in the workforce! WHEN YOU show the LEARNers, students <===> WHAT the profit is for THEIR private life <===> YOU will engage them very quickly ūüėČ AND DON’T teach THEM more as necessary, propose them some links to go further ONLY for those who want!!

.

WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?

Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===>Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!?

YOU won‚Äôt have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? ūüėČ

I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!

I did THE <===> ICT PracTICE <===> and THAT’S WHAT the workforce needs!!!

Due to my eSkills I could share my knowledge AND expertise ALSO with the below mentioned as well as to a broad range of visitors from around the globe!

What Are THE BEST Ways Of TEACHing And LEARNing? | Ideas And Reflections As ALSO MY PracTICE

Online since 1998 and giving ICT courses since 2002 as an pedagogical/andragogical (Andragogy) instructor I was reading a lot of multilingual books (French, German, English) about Pedagogy <===> 21st Century Learning and Teaching: Multilingual Books Recommendations <===> and I was reading a lot ALSO on the internet from renowned Universities online (mostly from Canada) which helped me to progress for an Up-To-Date Professional Development.

Synthesizing Mind-5 Minds for the future

.

Of course WE can’t say by 100% WHAT is THE BEST ways of TEACHing and LEARNing, BUT WE can share OUR PracTICE on the How-To WE did it and analyze it over the years by adapting for BETTER on each day… Through using Social Media, especially Twitter and connecting with other EDUcators, TEACHers, Instructional Coaches, WE can accelerate it even!

.

Read ALSO this article, please:

Feedback from Social Media Twitter and interesting question:

On 26-02-2016 I got a very interesting question posed by¬†@EricssonCareers¬†on Twitter, which I can’t answer with ONLY 140 characters and therefore I will answer it here in my blog post. See PIC below, please:

.

Feedback-Question-Erisson Careers-26-02-2016-Gust MEES-WHAT are the BEST ways for Teaching

.

Well, through the proposed way of learning in this blog post the learners, students will learn:

  • Asking for feedback by peers through Social Media an getting BETTER through it…
  • Having the mastery of ICT and Technology…
  • Being informed about new trends and getting NEW ideas, inspirations for new markets…

.

Benefit for future innovators: by having learned in such an environment students, learners are used to work (learn) with a brain without pressure and will become “Open Minded” as well… A brain WHO doesn’t feel any pressure is FREE and ideas will flow, as it enhances creativity… And creativity is the major factor for innovation!

WHAT Is eSkills? WHY Does The “e” Stand Before?

I hear most screaming ALREADY, WE are ONLY on EDUcation 1.0, or EDUcation 2.0 and starting to LEARN; EDUcation 3.0 is foreseen in the next years!!! Give us the time to LEARN!!! Well, WE are ALREADY on EDUcation 4.0, did YOU know THAT!? The above mentioned quote from ‚ÄúAlbert EINSTEIN‚ÄĚ SHOULD get to be taught to Educators, Teachers, Instructors! We, as teaching persons should remember that one on any teaching lesson, this as well as in the classroom and especially when WE publish online (website, blog, Twitter posts‚Ķ).

Challenges of future learning and teaching-2014

.

SO… WHAT’S EDUcation4.0? OR at least WHAT SHOULD it be!? I advocate and I (try to) PUSH a transparent <===> #LEARNing and #LEARNingToLEARN through #PracTICE by #LEARNingByDoing <===> as students, learners need to first of ALL to know WHAT and WHY they need to learn that special topic. Transparency is a MUST in 21st Century: tell the learners, students THEIR <===> #LEARNingPath, it is their right to know it <===>, make it visual by designing the course so that they can see it and experiment around with it, they will learn EVEN before the course(s) start, which in my opinion is GOOD, just be prepared about that. As more they know about it before it even starts as better it is, be wise and calculate that to create groups where they exchange the already known with others who don’t know it yet; make THEM ALSO teachers who share THEIR knowledge. Let it GO, let it FLOW, make it a win-win situation.¬†Let THEM take THEIR responsibility about LEARNing whereby YOU as teachers, educators, instructors are the coach WHO guides THEM through the <===> learning process<===.

Create a <===> ThingLink <===> LEARNingPath Design <===> where ALL your learning steps are included, e.g. <===> Design The Learning Of YOUR Learners, Students | Ideas <===.

Mention ALSO, probably the most important WHAT skills they will learn about AND WHAT is THE benefit for THEM!!! YOU will create a <===> success course(s) <===> isn’t that WHAT YOU WANT!?

As YOU will probably have found out, it is about <===> PracTICE and student centered <===>! WHY!? Well, WE are living in the 21st Century and life has changed, the role of EDUcators and Teachers has changed ALSO! NOW it is the students, learner who will come MORE in the focus as the OLD known TEACHING is OUT, it is NOW about <===> TEACHINg about <===> LEARNing To LEARN <===> where the teaching persons act as a Coach who guide THEIR LEARNers to become independent <===> Life-Long LEARNers <===!

.

.

Chat iconCreate a FAQ’s list together with the learners, students WHICH THEY decide about the FAQ’s. Give THEM a double task job; creating the FAQ’s AND let THEM make curation ALSO about it, and WHY NOT, let THEM create a <===> ThingLink <===> ALSO where THEY integrate THEIR LEARNing into it. AND if enough time and/or as creative homework let THEM create ALSO some comics (optional) about the <===> How-To <===> ūüėČ AND don’t forget please: ask THEM if there is something which THEY have seen what is in there interest and if possible learn about it and share it with THEM, so THEY will learn it and will be happy ūüėČ

WHAT Are THE Skills Needed From Students In The Future!? OR, WHAT Are THE Jobs Look Like In The Future!?

That are actually questions which I get asked very often from people and where I could ask ONLY the first one! WHAT Are THE Skills Needed From Students In The Future!? Social Media DON’TS

sharing iconAs the name says it already, it is about <===> SOCIAL <===>, so stay social, please. When using a “Twitter Chat” YOU are not alone, YOU will receive posts from OTHERS who are sharing stuff which could be of interest to YOU AND YOUR audience. YOU are NOT alone, DON’T forget this, please. YOU are, once connected to the internet, part of a global community. Everybody can take part in YOUR chat from around the globe, so posts (Tweets) will be visible in YOUR chats, that is called: Tweets in the stream.

Visible Thinking: see it as if YOU read a Newspaper, YOU won’t read everything as not ALL of interest to YOU, do the same when reading the Tweets, read what is of interest, BUT DON’T block persons who are sharing, NOR “Mute” persons, that is NOT SOCIAL! Accept to be social and follow the above advice, if YOU can’t then it would be better to create a “Forum” where YOU could stay alone with ONLY the people you want to be together, BUT that is “Middle Agesmentality ūüėČ

Sounds hard!? If so, please check if YOU have a fixed mindset and/or how-to get a growth mindset, YOU want to adapt to 21st Century, isn’t it?:

DO’S In Teaching OR Let Us Say BETTER Learning Through PracTICE

Learning By Doing is the 21st Century mantra…

.

experientiallearninginfographic-8-2014-final

Click the above image, please, to access its origin.

.

[GM]¬†My experience over 12 years (up from 2002), benefits which I encountered for students, learners: I prepared every time a visual for my learners to show THEM WHAT they will learn and how WE would learn this together, any station of the <===> Learning Path <===> got explained, so they knew at any moment WHERE they were in their <===> Learning Process <===. Thus meaning: I designed the course as shown above (with different tools [as facilitators] as possible today…). Already 12 years ago ūüėČ

WHAT did the learners, students benefit and HOW were they feeling?

Students and learners, especially adults and seniors (Andragogy), prefer working actively <===> Learning By Doing, PracTICE <===> as THEY are NOT really friends of THEORY! SO they were feeling much more FREE as they could act on their own, experimenting around, making some mistakes and learning from them. They learned more quickly as a result, once the mistakes transformed into positive thinking by NO fear anymore to try out NEW things, they were using their gained knowledge at home to learn on their own for their own PracTICE. They have a <===> profit <===> for their private life, so they love it to learn that way as it is useful!

WHAT are the skills Educators, Teachers should learn to master and teach the students!?

Well, some say that this is very difficult to find out!? Actually it isn’t at all. Let me explain, please. The MOST IMPORTANT, as mentioned¬†already above¬†is to find WHAT could be of interest to the learners, students, the benefit for them for their private life as well as the skills the workforce needs! And in this case WHAT I propose to YOU will be benefit for both!

These skills are concerned about:

.

Skills by Learning-By-Doing

Click the above image, please, to enlarge it.

Concerning feedback: ALL of my proposed courses (already in 2002-2003) had (A MUST) to be evaluated by its course participants, this through an online formular to evaluate THE quality of my courses! This was a rule which I brought in myself to guarantee a consistent quality in my courses. Here below (let me brag a bit) one (I have the permission of the person to publish it) feedback who is more worth than a diploma for me. The students, learners opinion is the mirror about WHAT WE have taught them! PS: the below mentioned document is framed and displayed in my private (at home) office, so that I can see it each day to remember me to maintain the same quality. If being once in doubt (yes, that happens also sometimes, nobody is perfect…) I have a look back again on it and it gives me the force to continue again…

A bit of the whole story about the above reference: When I started to give courses in 2002 about ICT and the use in EDUcation, there was NOTHING where I could have copied something, nor references! I had to start from scratch!!! At that time I spent +/- 30 hours for one (1) hour course giving!!! I was reading books to find out about pedagogy with ICT, here my list <===> 21st Century Learning and Teaching: Multilingual Books Recommendations <===>

SO ALSO, I didn’t know the person mentioned in above reference (too much occupied to give BEST possible course…), it is ONLY after the course when I was reading his evaluation that I asked him; he was a retired “Director of differentiated EDUcation” (just 3 months retired as far as I can remember) with a “Doctorat in EDUcation Sciences“, I was perplex at first moment, YOU can imagine; getting such a brilliant evaluation from someone with such a reputation and education. I am very grateful to him for that, it is STILL my <===> Leitfaden <===> for my daily tasks to keep up my professional way!

WHERE To START AND WHAT Plan?

Teaching the profession that...

.

Let us be honest: I have myself posted a lot about WHAT’S wrong with Professional Development and ranted also a lot about WHAT I have seen from posts on Social Media; thus meaning: by observing teachers and educators posts! THAT isn’t really funny, excuse-me please, seeing people WHO SHOULD be THOSE who are creating ALL OTHER professions struggling, (see PIC, please) acting with a 20th Century Mind by using 21st Century tools (EdTech)! THE Problem With The Actual System

EINSTEIN quotes-problems[GM] I will become 60 years old (STILL with young mind) this year and I have seen THE SAME problem since the last +/- 50 years THAT ===> Professional Development <=== is VERY FAR BEHIND!!! As a student I asked my Professors “WHY do WE need to learn this, I don’t see any necessity for real world in it!?“, I got answered ===> It’s on the “Curriculum”!!! Today isn’t any different, excuse-me please! And ALSO, as I was reading a lot about for what the courses were, from different OTHER books than the mandatory ones for the courses (there was NO internet at THAT time… BUT school libraries) I knew MORE than the teachers, professors. By asking THEM specific questions THEY got upset and I GOT punished, hard times! THIS shows WHAT ===> Professional Development <=== was at that time, and WHEN one is analyzing today Social Media posts on Twitter and Facebook, there isn’t really a change to see :((( WHAT I see, my personal opinion, is the GOOD will to use “EdTechtools to learn through ===> Twitter Chats <===, there are masses actually NOW, it is a BIG trend!¬†

BUT, MOST teaching persons (and other lurkers…) are ONLY (mostly) making nice talking; saying that “I am learning…”, hmmmmm?¬†Tell me WHERE THE learning is OR WHAT people think WHAT Learning is, as I am present on a lot of Twitter Chats and those persons didn’t change THEIR Mindset!??? People WHO rarely go out of their home and using Twitter Chats to get social relations, socializing? BUT WHERE is THE LEARNing WHEN the Mind is STILL on 20th Century!?

Interests of some of the co-founders of Twitter Chats?: Getting famous!? Collecting information for a NEW book!? MORE selfish behavior as THE EDUcators, TEACHers ===> Ethics Mind <=== allows!? Hmmm, hard Critical THINKing, where MOST about the above is ===> REALITY! <===.

Well, anyway: Let us look ONLY for advice for BETTER and solutions, THE How-To!

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-aigainformation1Let us come BACK to the topic of this blog post: WHY can’t EDUcators, TEACHers catch up with ===> Professional Development <=== with the actual system!? It is build up on a linear following, first A, THEN B, THEN C, THEN D… and so on… SO, it will NEVER be possible to be ===> UP-To-Date <===, excuse-me please ūüėČ Being retired, I have actually more time as when I was teaching in my active professional life and I can compare my actual situation with the one before. I EVEN can think NOW on WHY ===> Professional Development <=== as done NOW could NEVER be ===> Up-To-Date <=== as nearly NO ONE could invest that much time without losing its¬†familiar health situation!!! That social part needs to stay IMPORTANT! ¬†The above said is for the active EDUcators, TEACHers and NOT considered as an excuse for the BLACK¬†SHEEP’S¬†(too many anyway…)!

One SHOULD also respect the learning type: some people prefer learning as ===> autodidact <===, self-directed learning; DON’T push THEM (especially seniors) to work in groups, BUT provide THEM the necessary access to the files, so THEY can learn on THEIR OWN pace.

Concerning ===> autodidacts <===, DON’T FORGET that you deal with adults! Adults LEARN differently, please check below:

.

[Start text from Wikipedia] Autodidacticism (also autodidactism) or self-education is the act of self-directed learning about a subject or subjects in which one has had little to no formal education. Many notable contributions have been made by autodidacts.

Autodidactism is often complemented by learning in classrooms and other social settings. Many autodidacts seek instruction and guidance from experts, friends, teachers, parents, siblings, and community. Inquiry into autodidacticism has implications for learning theory, pedagogy, educational research, educational philosophy and educational psychology. [End text from Wikipedia]

.

[GM] GOT problems to convince people about to make ===> Professional Development <===!? My practical tips:

  • Try to measure the time for how long persons are talking about for NOT wanting to make “Professional Development” (without that THEY see it, let them GO talking, as it is THEIR preferred theme…)…
  • Ask THEM for how many time, how long and how often per day, week, month, THEY are ALREADY on THAT position against…
  • Ask a colleague who is GOOD in coding to create an online calculator which YOU post on YOUR internal website and/or platform…
  • Calculate THAT time in TOTAL AND show THEM the time THEY wasted WHICH THEY could have used for ===> Professional Development <=== ūüėČ
  • BETTER EVEN: let THEM make the calculation THEMSELVES to make THEM reflecting by ===> #PracTICE <===.

BTW: I have heard THAT above mentioned TOO MUCH, so that I decided to use a bit of Psychology to beat those persons by THEIR OWN words, it works perfectly ūüėČ YOU won’t make YOU friends with it, BUT ANYWAY those people aren’t YOUR friends up from the beginning, NOTHING to lose ūüėČ

One Size Doesn’t Fit ALL

[GM] Of course, there are different points of view which need to get expressed as well! EVEN on a collaborative blog one can work together with different point of views! As this is a Collaboration-Blog (Global Collaboration), co-author Dan KIRSCH will explain his point of view here below.

Dan KIRSCH[DK] I am a 6-8 Information, Communications, and Technology Instructor at Patrick Henry Middle School in Sioux Falls, SD (USA). I was asked last year if I would be willing to participate in the writing process of my school districts NEW 6-8 ICT curriculum. This was an opportunity I did not pass up as I knew I would gain new insight into writing curriculum and collaborating with other teachers within my school district.

This as been a very rewarding, frustrating, and at times difficult experience. I write about this as I have gained insight into how individuals ==> Professional Educators mind you can “undermine” the process of progression. For instance, our curriculum committee offered the other ICT teachers within the district (who were not on the curriculum committee) professional development (PD) to help them with the new curriculum and technological resources. This is where the PD portion puts a fork in the road into two separate paths. On one road the participants are very open into the new curriculum and willing to try NEW lessons; especially with the provided technological resources. Now, on the other road ==> we have other participants (educators) who revert back to their childhood days.

This means they undermine, criticize, mock, and/or find excuses to NOT accept change. Do not get me wrong I am one of the first people not “enjoy” change, but when I am provided with PD from other teachers and instructional coaches I am more apt to more open-minded as I am not be “thrown to the wolves” so to speak. Even with the resources and lessons at their disposal they still are not willing to accept that the curriculum is changing and that they are NOT alone in this process. It is at this point where I become very frustrated as a Professional Educator because I cannot believe there are other educators aka Life-Long Learners who have stopped that process ==> Life-Long Learning!

The point is as educators we are focused on teaching our students to change ==> learn new material, technology, and/or modes of assessment, but when teachers are asked to do the same thing some (not all) refuse. I am in the process of obtaining another Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and it this type of scenario that makes me question how does one (administrator) combat this ==> but at the same time keep ALL staff motivated…??
