Success Story of Life-Long LEARNing | Best PracTICE | ICT eSkills For Jobs
First of all, this blog post is NOT made for bragging BUT shows WHAT could get obtained while being a Life-Long Learner! In a world WHO is changing quicker then WE can follow (MOSTLY), it is important to stay up-to-date about WHAT’S going on around and this on a daily base!!! I am a Life-Long Learner since +/- 45 years already (I am 60 now) and it is a pleasure for me to learn! I want to share my passion with YOU and trying to give YOU that virus ALSO 😉
.
WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?
Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===> Life-Long LEARNers<===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!?
YOU won’t have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? 😉
I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!
I did THE <===> ICT PracTICE <===> and THAT’S WHAT the workforce needs!!!
Find out WHY and How-To.
When I was 45 years old I became unemployed (I was a manager in electronics at that time…) and I was struggling to find a new job, NOT easy at all for that age 😦 I accepted even to work for 45% less money earning (got adjusted by unemployment agency to 100%) and to change my daily suit wearing to a blue collar suit to make sure to have a job again… During that period I was following a lot of courses. In 2002 I became an “ICT Course Instructor” by having followed pedagogical courses (April to July 2002) from “eLuxembourg” (certificate FORM/03/2002/017). YES, with 47 years old I studied Pedagogy for four month to give ICT courses, very hard, BUT I did it! I found my vocation, my passion, where I gave pedagogical and andragogical (Adult Learning / Andragogy) courses to people from 11 to 79 years old for 9 years before I was out of the system (because of heavy health problems) and became retired.
My blog was selected for “BLOGOSPHERE Whether they are in Luxembourg or abroad, discover the bloggers making waves in Luxembourg. http://www.wort.lu/en/blogs
Well, that is actually NOT THAT DIFFICULT as most would think!I advice YOU to make <===> Curation <===> and to create YOUR <===> [PKM] Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management <===> to LEARN on a very quick way.
WHAT About Challenges AND Contests To Show YOUR Expertise!?
I encourage YOU to get some courage AND show WHAT YOU are capable to do! Maybe YOU don’t know HOW GOOD YOU are!? YOU have NOTHING to lose, ONLY to win! Personally I won an international contest (German speaking countries) in 1979 about electronics which gave me a new job, a higher paid job, a publication in an “Electronics Magazine (ELO)” and a NEW career which was THE beginning of my career path as you actually know now! At the time WE called it <===> Do It Yourself <===> TODAY there is a NEW name for it, it is called <===> The Maker Movement <===>, ONLY the name changed but it existed already more than 40 years ago 😉
Actually, there is a NEW Contest (I love challenges) where I applied and got accepted! Check the video below please and if YOU love it, give me a “Like” please as “Like’s” are part of it as well as views on the video, the winner will be the one WHO has most “Like’s” and page views!
WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!? Part 2
Due to my eSkills I could share my knowledge AND expertise ALSO with the below mentioned as well as to a broad range of visitors from around the globe!
The author Gust MEES is ICT Course Instructor, ”Member of the Advisory Board” from “Luxembourg Safer Internet” (LuSI), BEESECURE, Official Partner (Consultant) from the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg, project “MySecureIT“, Official Partner from the Ministry of Commerce in Luxembourg, project “CASES” (Cyberworld Awareness and Security Enhancement Structure).
WHAT Are THE Skills Needed From Students In The Future!? OR, WHAT Are THE Jobs Look Like In The Future!?
That are actually questions which I get asked very often from people and where I could ask ONLY the first one! WHAT Are THE Skills Needed From Students In The Future!? Well, there is one well renown person WHO explains it BEST in my opinion, and that is Howard GARDNER. Please check the picture below to understand.
.
.
When YOU have a closer look than YOU will realize that the <===> Synthesizing Mind <===> is THE major skill needed! I use it since ages in my courses and with a big success! Actually ALL my blogs and blog posts are based on it.

Facts to consider and advice:
YOU SHOULD explain that to YOUR LEARNers by designing the courses and tell THEM that they shouldn’t fear, that they should tell YOU when being in trouble, YOU should tell them that YOU take ALL the necessary time so that THEY will understand it, YOU should encourage them at any moment so that they will find the pleasure to LEARN 😉 YOU SHOULD use Empathy, observing them and find out WHO are those who are shy; the ones WHO won’t tell you when there is a problem. YOU SHOULD interact with them, looking over their shoulders and finding out WHERE the problem is.
That is the hardest part BUT the MOST IMPORTANT one as when they understood that they could find confidence in YOU, then they will advance in their LEARNing, THEY NEED confidence in YOU and in THEMSELVES!
Thus meaning: make the LEARNing individual! Take care of each person till they have understood it. It is like <===> differentiated instruction <===> EDUcation, BUT more coaching than teaching. In one phrase, differentiated instruction is primarily suiting instructional means to meet individual learning needs.
The above mentioned could get updated by more actually, such as: collaboration, coaching, TEAMTEACHing, etc. for 21st Century Skills (left hand bottom). In upper-right corner YOU could add as well: videos, animations, comics, Skype, Webquests, etc.
How Are Leading Countries In EDUcation Implement This!?
Well, when WE talk about leading countries in EDUcation MOST think certainly about Finland in Europe, which is true! BUT, there are ALSO other countries worth to have a look on it and to learn from them, as well as Luxembourg in Europe who is starting its NEW EDUReform in September 2015! I will present YOU my favorites below from WHOM I learned a lot online:

WHAT Are THE Jobs Look Like In The Future!?
Well, there is certainly no one WHO could answer that question! One can ONLY speculate about it: there will certainly be a lot of jobs who will be created because of Social Media, Internet of Things and Cyber Security; some certainly also from the MakerED industry an I guess that (my prediction) that the Cyber Hygiene sector would become the future jobs market as well! WHY in Cyber Hygiene!? WHAT is Cyber Hygiene anyway!?
As Cybercrime as also Cyberespionage, so as privacy problems will certainly NOT going away, it is important if not a MUST that the employees of companies are well trained about those risks! There is certainly a big market in training employees.

A Reminder
.
.
The above mentioned quote from “Albert EINSTEIN” SHOULD get to be taught to Educators, Teachers, Instructors! We, as teaching persons should remember that one on any teaching lesson, this as well as in the classroom and especially when WE publish online (website, blog, Twitter posts…).
[GM]: Well, an online friend on Social Media Twitter ===> @ShiftParadigm <=== and ALSO a member of my ===> PLN <=== was introducing Mindy [MK] to his ===> PLN <=== (where I belong to as well) as a NEW Twitter user and asking us ALL to give Mindy a bit help as a newcomer. I did through sharing of my blog posts and curation about Twitter and the contact to Mindy became later stronger and she was willing to learn, she was asking to learn more. A very good initiative which I couldn’t refuse as I love sharing my knowledge with others. So one moment come I was explaining most of what she wanted to know over “DM” (Direct [private] Messages) on Twitter, which was working perfectly… At that moment she wanted ALSO to know more about blogging and I gave her a little help through creating a special blog about the first steps with WordPresshere ===> Creating Your First Blog Post With WordPress <===. That was the beginning, I will let Mindy [MK] explain more and especially her point of view below…
.
[MK]: I came fresh from a training, where I was the only individual from a public school system, the rest were from private/independent schools. The training was about leadership, best teaching practices, pedagogy, and technology. It was nearing the end of day two, when a guest speaker presented about technology. He had a twitter, a blog, a YouTube channel, and many other tools he utilized to reach his students as well as tools for his own professional development. Unfortunately, until then I had not given much thought into using technology as a way to further my professional development. I furiously took notes and made a “to-do” list of mini-goals I wanted to put into action when the conference was over. Later that weekend I created a twitter account. Unsure of what to expect and how it would transform my professional knowledge.Within minutes I had added the few people I knew, then my phone started buzzing with sounds of others following me thanks to @ShiftParadigm ===> the only person I really knew. Others followed me from that first interaction. I was grateful and intrigued. The next hurdle was to create a blog. Where to start? What type of blog? Who will want to read my blog?.. and many other questions ensued. That is where [GM] came in. I had found a source where I could “unload” all the unrelenting questions that I thought about, wondered, and sought advice on. At times meekly asking questions, which transformed into deep conversations sharing thoughts and ideas.
[DK] An online friend ===> @knolinfos Gust MEES and I have been collaborating on several different blog topics; such as our Learn-to-learn: Digital Citizenship blog and our Global Collaboration blog; including @eduinspirations Mindy. K. I was asked if I would want to be a part of this collaboration; in which I jump at the chance!!! The professional developmentandcollaboration I have gained through twitter and blogging with Gust MEES, Mindy K., and Mark W. have given me the inspiration to continue my practice to become the best possible educator and life-long learner that I can be!!! Through participating in twitter chats; such as the #whatisschool chat I have gained a global connectionwith other educators that I never thought possible. It was suggest to me to start a WordPress blog where I could continue my connections with other educators through collaboration!! I have always used edublogs as my “main” website for my students to collaborate with one another. I never thought about starting or creating my own “personal” blog to continue my own learning until I was invite by Gust MEES to collaborate in a global collaboration blog. Through many direct messages through twitter I have become part of great PLN!!! I look forward to the different avenues this blog topic will take me as I continue my growth as professional educator and life-long learner!! Currently, I have the privilege of being a member of my school districts ICT Curriculum Committee. We are rewriting & updating our ICT classes for students 6-8. Find below, please, WHAT skills the learners will need in the future.
.
.
By analyzing WHAT WE are doing through the “Coaching” and “Collaboration“, YOU will realize that WE could cover ALL the abilities and skills needed from the above mentioned. BTW: the above screenshot is from the book of “Howard GARDNER” ===> Five Minds For The Future <===, a book any teacher should read to understand what is needed for the future. It should be considered as required reading!
To have good relationships with the learners (students), especially when going global and very especially when doing this online (as YOU don’t see YOUR learners Face-to-Face) this is very important! A solid base of TRUST needs to get build.
Challenges are a MUST if YOU will motivate learners (students) to GO a step further, find out more below, please. YOU may use “Problem Based Learning” AND “Project Based Learning” (PBL). ALSO, the contact with OTHERS is something very interesting as anyone is different and every time a NEW ===> CHALLENGE <=== for the coach.
Awareness While Working With 21st Century Pedagogy, Tools And Social Media
[GM] In the above mentioned sections WE discussed the possibilities of a modern pedagogy and ALSO WE presented some solutions which of course could get extended by other solutions… BUT, isn’t there something different from traditional learning? YES, WE are using NOW the internet and learning doesn’t happen anymore ONLY in school, in the ===>SchoolCocoon<===! There are NO walls anymore as the internet breaks any borders and walls, the internet is present anywhere as far as there is a possible connection. WE are living NOW in ===> another world <===, a world with two faces, the virtual world and the real world, where the internet (the virtual world) and the real world are influencing each other.
[GM] It isn’t enough anymore to ONLY know the pedagogy and the used 21st Century tools, also known on Twitter as “EdTech Tools“! While using the internet and services, as also tools (programs and Apps), which are connected to the internet, WE MUST accept WHAT is happening in this “virtual world“! This “Digital World” or “Virtual World” is exactly the same as in the “Real World“, there are BAD and GOOD! Actually there are a lot of dangers in the “Virtual World” where a lot of people are NOT aware about it, and there is the responsibility of Education to jump in and teach the learners about WHAT THEY have to be aware and ALSO how to protect as its BEST against: (TIP: read ONLY the text in BOLD to understand)
THE combination of the above mentioned is “THE MASTER KEY” to build UP a modern society through learning (learning to learn) and coaching while using ALSO connected (trough Social Media) global collaboration.
.
Collaboration-Working As A Team (Especially On Global) And Connected Through Social Media
The authors [GM], [MK], [DK] will comment here THEIR experiences through the adventure of global collaboration which THEY experienced.
[GM] My advice (as I am used to it since ages ===> (2002-2003) <===:
Before starting such a BIG project, YES it is a BIG one as YOU are dealing with different mentalities and cultures, is to set up rules up from the beginning to avoid BIG mistakes and not necessary stress for ALL.
This is called ===> Proactive THINKing <=== BETTER to use it as as YOU could come into situations without an issue when NOT doing it and WHO wants that!?
Concerning ===> Proactive THINKing <===: most people don’t know about WHAT it is, I will explain very shortly: deep thinking on what could happen in case of toavoid it up from the beginning. YOU could ALSO say: thinking of the “Worst case” who could happen and preparing to that it would NOT happen. OR, if YOU are smart, usingPsychology for that it will happen (ONLY positive things…)!TIP: read ONLY the bold text to understand it quickly 😉
Check ALSO these links, please, who explain about “International Collaboration”:
Hi Mindy, Dan: I gave You the status “Editor” for this blog post. Please use ONLY this blog post for OUR “Collaboration and Coaching”!!! ====> EDUcation-Collaboration And Coaching | The Future – Private <=== Don’t touch anything else as when YOU are even seeing other things (my blog posts and…). ONLY THIS blog post, thanks!
I will give You some directions through messages marked in “brown“, as this text. WE will communicate this way. You do the same, please: using “brown” text for messages and questions…
If YOU think that something SHOULD get brought in MORE in this “brown” text, feel FREE to do so! BUT, then please use YOUR initials, such as [MK], [DK], thanks.
Once You have read the text, I suggest that You create an “unpublished” (Private mode) post on YOUR account where You copy the “brown” text into and save it for following and reminding 😉 Once done, please let me know and I will delete the “brown” text and save at new this post. So WE will have a good communication and the text will look later OK (when published “Public”) for the readers.
ALSO, so You will have saved a copy of ALL OUR interactions, which could be useful for You and YOUR LEARNers, maybe thinking of as using later that preparation for a new blog post of YOUR OWN on the #HowTo which WE could integrate also in this blog post (ONLY one link…) as part of YOUR OWN experience... It is IMPORTANT to know “THE way” on How To YOU did it for YOUR further “adventures” with OTHERS on collaboration…
At the bottom of this blog post You will see the keywords which WE were talking about: these will help us to NOT lose the line what WE want to do 😉 Feel FREE to add some new when they come out from YOUR brain…
Try first, please, to bring in YOUR insights in the mentioned ===> [MK], [DK], in “brown” text. Later You certainly will have something to suggest, which would be welcome of course. BUT, focus, please first on the mentioned 😉 Otherwise You could lose the topic(s) ===> advice <=== 😉
A good idea might be ALSO to post sometimes Tweets about the #HowTo YOUR learning is advancing (as well as in this post), so OTHERS will get little snippets, step by step, what is happening through a such way WE are doing 😉
The ===> Learning By Doing <=== is something which I have taught since 2002 already and especially with “Collaboration”, the WE is a win-win situation and the “Coaching” (NOT anymore Teaching) is a WINNER!
So, as I am the “ADMINISTRATOR”, I will be able to interact in this blog post and I will adjust some text, ideas and…
===> Please DON’T delete the “brown” text as I will do that when I think that it is necessary as “ADMINISTRATOR”, thanks! <===
One more IMPORTANT thing ===> authors SHOULD wait while seeing “locked” as it means that someone else is in “EDIT” mode ;), see screenshot below, please, thanks 😉
.
.
.
WE are multi-authors on this blog post, so WE MUST take care of each other and being respectful. WHEN YOU see a message similar as above, please DON’T click on “Take over” as that author is actually on “EDIT” mode and doing his work, thanks! Be patient, please… OR, as I did with Mindy: I gave her a friendly “DM” (Direct Message [Private Message]) over Twitter to let her know that I MUST quickly made an additional ADD, which after finishing I will let her know when finished and THEN I go out of “EDITING”, so that she can continue with her “EDITING” again. Thanks for respecting this… And thanks to Mindy to give his “Administrator” the time to do this, appreciated.
===> WE are using the “DM” on Twitter <=== for OUR communication, learn more below:
Very IMPORTANT: DON’T use any code, HTML and similar in the blog!!! If YOU want so, please contact me and WE will discuss about the possibility, anyway I would check the code before!
.
.
===> WE are neither talking about religion and politics, please, as they differ from each ones beliefs, WE respect THEM, BUT WE avoid talking about it to. <===
TIP: WHEN YOU see that someone else is in “EDIT” mode, so prepare YOUR text in a Word document (or similar) during the time that the author is editing. YOU will later ONLY need to make a copy&paste & formatting in “Justify” and YOU will lose NO time 😉
Let’s GO for it 😉
PS: WE will post in “Justify” as You might have found out 😉 I am used to that, so please follow, thanks. ALL my posts are on “Justify”, so WE have to continue like that, thanks.
Just write and format on “Justify” please, I will have a look later on #HowTo get it BETTER presented, don’t worry. Let it GO, let it FLOW… I will look on the rest, give me some TRUST, please, thanks.
======> DON’T worry about how the blog post is looking actually, I will CHANGE later. Some TOPICS need to get placed differently, coming later… First “Let it GO, let it FLOW and later the fine-tuning…
Slowly, but surely WE will go through it 😉 Rome wasn’t build in one day!
.
Visible Learning
The author [MK] was communicating with me [GM] over “DM” (Direct Messages) over Social Media “Twitter“, a bit like a “Chat” where WE exchanged OUR different point of views (mostly common) about collaboration and coaching. [MK] is authorized to use this “private exchange” to create a new blog on her own, where she will add ALSO her notes to document her learning and her insights…
[MK] Establishing roles, responsibilities, and a common language are key. A common language allows everyone to have the same foundation in which to build upon.
[MK] Communicate, Communicate, Communicate ===> TRUE open communication is key. Especially when various levels of experience are at play.
[GM] Remember every time the letter “C” in “ICT“, which means “Communication“.
[MK]Immediate and constant feedback are essential.Feedback helps maintain focus along with eliminating any ambiguity within the group.
[MK] Consider the overall purpose. Is it to educate myself, individuals, other professionals? Let that be your guide to reach the targeted audience. Uncommon language or terms is confusing and will turn your audience OFF.
[GM] Mindy, please report ALSO about taking a break sometimes, very important 😉 Thank You.

The participants (The TEAM)
.
Actually on July, 10th 2014 WE are three persons working together to learn from each other through Social Media Twitter, which WE will document here to give YOU, dear readers and LEARNers, the opportunity to learn ALSO from us.
To make sure that YOU will know WHO wrote WHAT, WE will use the following:
[GM]: Gust MEES (me, the ADMINISTRATOR of this blog post)
More about me: I am a retired “ICTInstructor” since January 1st, 2014. I gave courses to adults, seniors, teachers, elementary classes, as ALSO sometimes personal coaching to youth from the secondary Education. I will try to create a new blog post about my experiences over the years, who could help YOU as well. BUT I am very active on Social Media and I give FREE courses online (a constructive pastime) about EDUcation and Cyber-Security. I was a pioneer in my own country as I started already in 2002 together with my LEARNers what WE are doing here now together.
I am an ===> autodidact <===! And ALSO a ===> LifeLongLEARNing person <=== and this since more than 45 years already, always loved to learn 😉
[GM] This is WHAT my learners (my girls) said about THEIR experiences from my coaching (multilingual: German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Luxembourgish):
ALSO I was an awarded author on “Google Knol” during four (4) years, service who is NOW (since May 1st, 2012) discontinued and on the “Google Grave Yard“. I had about 1.4 Million page views😦 and was author of the week in 2009.
.
.
I was working together with +/- twelve (12) different authors from around the globe, which WE NEVER met before and creating blog posts together. It was a great experience which I loved. Thus meaning, I have a lot of experience through the years which WE will use together in this blog post. More info about me on the bottom of this blog post.
I am online since 1998 and I read a lot of books and mostly magazines. I am multilingual, speaking six languages and understanding eight. I am living in Luxembourg (Europe), a small country with ONLY 537k inhabitants and a population of 44.5 % of foreign nationality (2013). Thus meaning: I am used to live together with different cultures and mentalities, which is a great help when connecting on Social Media with other cultures.
I created ALSO in 2004, that was a global innovation and STILL is, a theater piece about ===> LEARNing the basics of Cyber Security through a Theater piece<===, le “Théâtre Interactiv et Pédagogique” (T.I.P.), check below:
[MK]: More about me: I worked in a variety of settings. I completed my undergraduate degree with an internship at Martin Technology Academy. where I was an Odyssey of The Mind coach as well. My first year of teaching was as Lead Preschool Teacher at Christian County Head Start, before I transferred into the public school system in Clarksville-Montgomery County. Where I taught Special Education K-1 and this year I will be a General Education Kindergarten Teacher. I try to develop my professional learning by doing and experiencing different settings within education. I went to a week-long conference at Vanderbilt where I was 1-24 chosen, making up individuals from 10 different states. I continue to volunteer my time with Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome by helping to raise money, raise awareness, and help bring more of the surrounding community to events hosted by the organization. I am the Morale Committee Chair at my school. The committee and I plan events to help boost morale, plan collaborative events, and to spread well-being throughout the school year. Future goals are to study leadership and education policy to better understand the demands on constraints placed on all individuals working in education and how to make the field better for all.
Greetings from Patrick Henry Middle School! My name is Dan Kirsch. I teach courses in Information/Communications & Technology (ICT) and Career/Technical Education (CTE) for students in grades 6-8. I completed my undergraduate degree in Education from Dakota State University in Madison, SD (USA). My first 3 years of teaching was in a rural public school in Chamberlain, SD (USA). My duties included teaching K-6 Physical Education & 5-8 Middle School Technology classes. The opportunity to attend graduate school to obtain my Master’s Degree led me to South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD (USA) where I obtained my MS in Athletic Administration. During graduate school I obtained a part-time teaching position within the Sioux Falls School District in Sioux Falls, SD (USA). After graduate school I was given a full-time teaching position at Patrick Henry Middle School in the Sioux Falls School District, which is where I currently reside and love every minute of it!!! In the last couple of years, I have gained a ton of knowledge through twitter chats and global collaborations, which as led me to this opportunity to be part of this collaboration blog! I look forward to collaborating and communicating as much information as possible to help PLN and myself as a teacher to continue on the path of Life-Long Learning!
TEAM’s Experience During This Collaboration And Personal Coaching
[MK]:WHAT I learned:
Development of a common language, that enabled OPEN sharing of ideas, experiences, knowledge.
Broadened understanding of concepts students need in the 21 Century to be successful.
Deepened understanding and professional growth, using what I learned and applying it to interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
Building mindfulness of the constant changes in education and adapting to meet the needs of students.
Critical thinking means: Critical self-reflection, self-analysis <== BEFORE taking action
[GM]Apart from the already published experiences from me here, there is one essential point to highlight as well:
THE LEARNing rhythm and the ENERGY of the participants! One size doesn’t fit it ALL! Some have more ENERGY as OTHERS and as a TEAM WE need to adapt ALSO to this as a TEAM! It is IMPORTANT to let know the TEAM when someone is feeling out of ENERGY, which is human and NORMAL! WE ALL have different ways of how OUR life is organized and this shouldn’t get changes, so let the leading person know this and when that person is clever and professional enough, a break of one day will be offered to the WHOLE TEAM. We are humans and NOT robots 😉 BTW: I am HAPPY sometimes to get a day off as well 😉
I know that this isn’t easy to admit, BUT WE MUST do it as:
as otherwise WE could face a BURNOUT and that isn’t good for OUR HEALTH, nor for the LEARners as they would suffer from it as well. I call this ===> Taking care of OUR own PROFESSIONAL HYGIENE <=== Find below, please some helpful articles:
In modern schools there are ALSO parent meetings where the parents get involved, they get noticed about how THEIR kids progress and WHAT about THEY can help for BEST learning of THEM. This is a modern concept of collaboration between the school inside and the outside of the school. It should be a partnership. Here below some articles who explain in detail:
WHAT YOU Should Know Up From The Beginning When Coaching And On Global Collaboration
There is a MUST to establish some rules and guidelines UP from the beginning as WE did in this blog post, or as Mindy [MK] said: Establish a common language.[GM] This common language should be “Respect, Tolerance, Adapting, Empathy, Social behavior…” to avoid mistakes.YOU are dealing with different mentalities and cultures, so avoid BIG mistakes and not necessary stress for ALL.
When coaching:
[MK]Immediate and constant feedback are essential. When possible set up times when feedback is given and timecan be devoted to multiple exchanges to express ideas, questions, and overall thoughts. This helps maintain the integrity and focus, especially when working in different time zones, states, and from various experience backgrounds.

Positive Side Effects / LEARNers Want To LEARN New Languages
Well, I was surprised when coaching and working together with some educators as suddenly I got told that THEY wanted to learn new languages. This after THEY saw my Twitter posts (Tweets) where I had some conversations with other multilingual educators, where WE discussed on the same Twitter thread in Luxembourgish, German, French and English; switching the languages in one second time. This is a valuable occasion, especially as with the internet one finds FREE professional courses, which WE will present here below:
Learning Luxembourgish

[GM]: Mindy [MK] wanted to know about how to create a blog. WE were discussing about it and I created a new blog post about the how to, check below, please:
[GM] I will start soon a new blog about ===> HTML for beginners <=== A very simple step by step for the practice on how to use in the blogs, ONLY the necessary, NO complete course… So, through this blog I will coach [MK] on the same way as WE did already in this blog post.
Hashtag on Twitter is ===> #EdCollCoach <=== a combination of “EDUcation” & “Collaboration” & “Coaching“.
.
Keywords to create this post (the authors guideline):[GM] engaging, collaboration, coaching, patience, passion, will to learn, trust, community, teamwork, communication, challenge, creativity, organization, ADAPTING, Social Media, Twitter, change, culture, universal, leadership, leaders, partnerships, Empathy, Challenge, Trust, Responsibility, Priorities, Internet Safety, Cyber Security, Digital CitizenShip, Privacy, patience, time, transparency, satisfaction, Win-Win situation, , projects, concept, deadline, tensions, energy, structure, goals, constant awareness, fail, learning by doing, focus, simple language, success, student centered, interest, pedagogy, concentration, goal orientated, diligence, UPDATES, blog updates, happiness, fun, conversations, discussions, INDEPENDENCE of learners, advice, experience, generations, generation exchange, maturity, naivety, NO STATUSQUO, Individuality, patience, passion, knowing WHEN to take a break, LEARNing rhythm, one size doesn’t fit all, education, inspiration, vision, quick learning, saving time to learn through coaching, Professional Development through Collaboration & Coaching, peers, peer reviews, global exchange, global learning, global collaboration, fun, Sustainability, love for nature, curation, PLN, PKM, [MK] GRIT, Innovation, Team…

.
Example below…
[GM]: I will prepare this blog post on such a way that WE have ALL the necessary resources (links) which WE need on one place for the collaboration and coaching. WE will ALSO use this blog to update OUR knowledge on the use of WordPress and others if necessary… SO, if YOU see something here in this post which YOU don’t know how to, ask please and I will explain, don’t fear 😉 Takes mostly ONLY a couple of minutes to learn it…
.
[MK] I have made a screen-shot of the innovation process model… should it be placed in the POST anywhere?

SO, What’s THE Change For Teachers In 21st Century Education!?
.
This is a general overview only to explain in simple words:
I get asked very often and get also a lot of discussions with people and also teachers about what’s THE realCHANGE in 21st Century Education and especially for teachers, even that MOST people tell me that “THE CHANGE” is very difficult to understand! BUT it’s actually very easy to understand, BUT it needs to get accepted from the teachers! This is my point of view, let me explain, please:.
What really changed for teachers is the way they will teach the students, THEY are NOT anymore “THE BOSS” in the classroom, ===> THEY are NOW a coach! <=== Someone who is guiding the students (learners) in THEIR way of learning and showing THEM how to learn and to deal with the BIG DATA on the Internet! It is NOT anymore a classroom of silence, it is a classroom where learners sit together in groups to solve problems in a team, solving the problems and learning together with the skills THEY acquired through previous teaching lessons.
It’s NOW ===> Us and THEM <===, WE try to work as a team for getting BEST results, it is NOWlearner-centered! WE as teaching persons are NOT anymore THE most important one, BUT WE change THE way how WE are TEACHING and WE focus on what OUR mission is: giving OUR learners (students) the BEST Education to face the REAL WORLD outside of the “School-Cocoon“, thus meaning: WE need to know what the skills are that the REAL WORLD needs!
The teacher is NOT anymore in front of the class, BUT s(he) is together with the learners in the classroom. WHERE the term CLASSROOM needs to get redefined!
=> THE CLASSROOM is not anymore inside the schools, ===> NO “School-Cocoon” anymore! <=
===> THE WALLS are broken and Teaching and Learning takes part everywhere, outside the “OLD definition of CLASSROOM”! <===
It is ALSO the WE as WE are looking for a win-win situation between OUR learners and us as teachers, WE try to get out the BEST “Team-Work” as it is that skills are needed in the REAL WORLD from the employers! Students (Learners) should know about “Team-Work” as they will face it once out of school and being employed!
The biggest mistake teachers actually make is thinking that by using the newest educational ICT tools and technical devices will make them a 21st Century teacher, NO ===> NOT AT ALL!
[Start Text from: Don’t Confuse Technology With Teaching] Educators are coaches, personal trainers in intellectual fitness. The value we add to the media extravaganza is like the value the trainer adds to the gym or the coach adds to the equipment. We provide individualized instruction in how to evaluate and make use of information and ideas, teaching people how to think for themselves. [End Text from: Don’t Confuse Technology With Teaching]
THIS ALL needs a serious up-to-date of Professional Development! Check below for more information about PD, please:
That is also something I get very often asked: WE don’t know about the future jobs as every day NEW ones getting created emerged by the ICT and especially because of “Social Media“, so how to know about what to teach!?
That is certainly a well founded question and needs to get answered a bit differently by applying Howard GARDNER‘s view in his book “5 Minds For The Future“, see screenshot below, please.
.
.
By reading the above, I think the question is answered very well and with your pedagogical background you will know how to adapt your courses to it! OR??? Perhaps ALSO revising what you learned before you got your diploma, a little refresh of knowledge helps also…
Check out also my multilingual book selection (EN, FR, DE):
Lots of teachers have misunderstood what a 21st Century teacher should be and are doing nothing else as using the new educational tools, which is NOT the right way, sorry! The tools ONLY help making the courses more engaging and also more fun for the learners when well applied. They are necessary, BUT it is STILL the updated pedagogical knowledge of the teacher who is more important!
[Start Text from EDUDEMIC] However, if teachers change their approach to focus on transferable technology skills (i.e. the NETS-S) it will make the integration of technology more meaningful and prepare our students with skills they can take with them in the future.
And as I was talking ALSO about the “updated pedagogical knowledge“, known also as “Professional Development“, check here, please, to find out if YOUR PD is up-to-date:
Another BIG mistake is to focus ONLY on Apple devices and Apple resources in schools, such as iPad and iPhone Apps and more… Teachers like to play with them and students certainly also, BUT:
There are more employers who use Windows machines than Apple machines worldwide and the students need first the knowledge and the skills to work with that “Operating System” (OS)!
Once out of school and applying for a job, these “Windows Skills” are a ===> MUST to get a job!!! <===
NOT every employer allows a “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) strategy inside its company for different reasons, mostly for Cyber-Security reasons!
Social Media As Well Is NOW Included For Teaching And Learning
.
First of all, let us take a look about what “Social Media” is, watch the video below, please:
.
.
Why Social Media Should be Taught in Our School Systems
.
Social Media (Twitter, Facebook and…) is part already of commercial strategies in most companies worldwide and if not yet it will be as companies must follow this trend to stay competitive! SO, the students (learners) need to have these “Social Media” skills as well to be able to use them later in their future working place(s)!
.
I think the BEST way to explain it is to check my curation of professional articles, read them, please:
If you are a self-learner, an autodidact, I suggest to you to use Twitter together with Curation and trying to build up a “Personal Learning Network” (PLN) and to participate on Twitter-Chats.
A very good practice would be ALSO to invite teachers who are NOT YET ready for the 21st Century Education in a classroom as an observer for learning together with an experienced teacher and giving him ALSO the right to teach, the moment s(he) wants to say something when the experienced teacher is giving the course(s)! This needs to get briefed before the course(s) start… This would made him (her) feeling part of it and encourage also…
.
Watch the video below to listen what the experts say:
Quote from [https://twitter.com/kimgarst] “If you don’t leave your past in the past, it WILL destroy your future. Live 4 what today has to offer, not for what yesterday has taken away.
.
Final Word
.
This is what I see as THE CHANGE with my actual knowledge, but if YOU dear reader have some more information, feel free to leave constructive comments, suggestions and even constructive critics…
Of course there are ALSO the Parent-Teachers meetings and other changes, BUt I wanted to show ONLY the changes for the teachers who are THE CHANGE for the mind… Once accepted these changes in the mind, it will take some time to adapt…

Protecting the organization’s network and its data from attack and misuse requires more than just a BYOD mentality; establishing secure, mobile-enabled operations requires a mobility access control program that includes corporate-provisioned, approved employee- and partner-owned devices as well as unmanaged guest devices.
Introduction: When YOU are naive in Real World YOU will be even more in Virtual World, called Internet also!
.
What is naivety meaning? [Start Text from Wikipedia] Naivety (or naïvety, naïveté, etc.), is the state of being naive—having or showing a lack of experience, understanding or sophistication, often in a context where one neglectspragmatism in favor of moral idealism. One who is naive may be called a naif. [End Text from Wikipedia]

Important Message: First of all, I don’t want to blame and offense anybody! But, there is a deep need, even a MUST to say the below, excuse me for my openness and my “Critical Thinking“…
Let us START with sharing photos over the internet, is that really a MUST that everybody worldwide will see OUR private photos!? Sharing normal photos, there isn’t any harm, BUT private photos of family members and about OURSELVES!? Really a need and/or a MUST!? Go for “Deep-THINKing“, please 😉 Check ALSO the below article…

Strava fitness app divulges heatmap of secretive British SAS base
A secretive special air service base has been inadvertently revealed by a fitness app that has created a heatmap of running routes around the country.
A SAS base in Hereford, along with a nuclear deterrent naval base and the government’s spy agency GCHQ has been placed on a heatmap of Strava’s customers, including the profiles of several people who regularly run to-and-from the highly sensitive buildings.
A group of children in Alaska took over their classroom computers after phishing account details from teachers. They asked teachers at Schoenbar Middle School, for 12 to 13-year-olds, to enter admin names and passwords to accept a false software update, according to reports.
Why does this matter? Well, imagine you are a member of websites X, Y and Z – and you use the same password on each site. If X suffers from a data leak and their password database is accessed, or if hackers manage to work out your password for X, then the bad guys will not only have access to your X account, but Y and Z as well!
If that weren’t scary enough, just over a quarter (26%) said that tend to use easy-to-remember passwords such as birthdays or people’s names, opening the door for their online accounts to be hacked into by criminals. [END Text from SOPHOS]
An external hard drive containing the details of 583,000 student loan borrowers has been lost, Human Resources and Skills Development (HRSD) Canada revealed on Friday.
This isn’t the first time when the HRSD compromises the personal details of Canadians. At the end of 2012 they lost a USB stick containing information on 5,000 people.
[Start Text from http://www.wpix.com/news/wpix-confidential-confetti-at-thanksgiving-parade,0,4718007.story] Something far more concerning than marching bands, balloons, cheerleaders and clowns was at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Confidential personal information is what some paradegoers found among confetti tossed during the world’s most famous parade. That information included social security numbers and banking information for police employees, some of whom are undercover officers. Most significant, the confetti strips identified Nassau County detectives by name. Some of them are apparently undercover. Their social security numbers, dates of birth and other highly sensitive personal information was also printed on the confetti strips.
The above shown screenshot (photo taken of my received eMail message) shows (in French) a message received from “apparently” VISA, BUT I don’t have any VISA CARD and so that message is by 100% a scam! NEVER click on the link in such an eMail! YOU will get tricked by the bad boys and your computer and/or SmartPhone infected with Malware! Courageous people and those who have a bit knowledge could follow my FREE course about Spam and Scam here to find out HOW TO fight them:
Trojanized Thanksgiving-themed screensavers lurking online: [Start Text from http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=2329] If you want to add a little festive cheer to your computer, a screensaver showing beautiful Thanksgiving images might be just the thing. But unfortunately, not all things downloaded from the Internet are safe to use, and cyber crooks love nothing more than to take advantage of popular holidays to saddle you with malware. [End Text from http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=2329]
In our second monthly Insight, our AVG Viruslab Research Group has uncovered the sheer amount of malware prevalent in file sharing sites, which often visited by eager gamers, intent on, well, gaming the system to get shortcuts that can save a lot of time and effort in progressing their character in their game of choice.
==> And while this may appear a niche attack, the actual scale of the market is far bigger than you may realise. <==
While most of us probably know of the explosion of online gaming over the past few years, we are perhaps unaware of the dollar size of the market. Five of the top multiplayer games alone: World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Runescape, World of Tanks and Minecraft, are played by more than 330 million people worldwide and are part of a multi-billion-dollar industry.
===> In fact, in the investigation by our team they found it to be as high as 90% in some sites. So gamers need to be aware that they are putting themselves at risk. <===
Windows users ALSO should become more aware, it’s NOT ONLY the others! But how to convince people of the need of BETTER Security, how can we measure it ourselves on a Windows machine!? I found recently a very interesting tool who checks YOUR computer: OPSWAT Security Score is a free tool that scans your computer for the status of your installed security applications and provides a score along with recommendations on how to improve both the score and the security of your device.
.. Concerning Apps we need to be very attentive on which Apps we download and also on the permissions we give those Apps to access! Check my Curation about it here:
Good example on how an App accesses your data below .
.
This App from ThingLink is one of the best examples of good practice as it doesn’t access to any private data, ONLY reading your Tweets and who you follow (which is already a lot of information), but one of the serious ones I have seen so far… BTW: I recommend ThingLink as a very good service and I use it also here http://www.thinglink.com/scene/296377469991124993?buttonSource=userPage
===> One of the worst examples I have seen is here below, it accesses even your “Direct Messages” on Twitter and excuse-me NO WAY!!! <===
Concerning the above link, check out carefully this text fom it “While these apps make our lives easier, they also give a wider group of application developers and advertising networks the ability to collect information about our activities and leverage the functionality of our devices.““At the same time the companies, consumers and government employees who install these apps often do not understand with who and how they are sharing personal information. Even though a list of permissions is presented when installing an app, most people don’t understand what they are agreeing to or have the proper information needed to make educated decisions about which apps to trust,” Hoffman warns.
As I have talked about bad APPS, so how to know where to get the good APPS and where to download the APPS on trustful websites? That is very easy to answer, ===> download APPS ONLY from the main download places, from the ORIGINAL STORES!!! <===
Awareness: YOU should ALSO take care and install security programs on YOUR smartphones, as nobody is perfect this would help YOU ALSO in these difficult tasks…:
Naivety in the Digital Age means not realizing and accepting thedangers of the Internet, the ignorance of the need to secure its computer and any other device connecting to the Internet (smartphones + TV, fridge …), having no clue about Cyber-Security and people who think that Internet-Safety ALONE is enough! WE need ALSO to be able with OUR Critical-Thinkingskills to make the difference between bad posts and good posts, between APPS who are harming OUR Privacy and APPS who have a real value!!! NOT EVERYTHING posted on Internet is to accept nor to download!!! One should be able to know the trustful stuff… Don’t get tricked by the bad boys!!!
.
.
.
Concerning download sites, here are the trustful download websites:
One of the best examples of bad use of ICT is certainly coming from the NASA, from whom we wouldn’t expect it actually, but TRUE!
It’s already an OLD article, but still a good “bad example” to show to learners about learning basics of Cyber-Security and the importance to know that USB flash drives could be infected and thus infecting also other computers! Imagine that the whole mission could have failed and this because of naivety and that astronauts could have died!!!
But this not yet enough, NASA didn’t learn anything from it! Check: Stolen NASA laptop contained sensitive staff information:
In21st CenturyInternet-SafetyALONEisn’t enough anymore, a need for sure, but there is a MUST to teach and to learn ALSO about basics of Cyber-Security! Both together are a MUST! NOT ONLY one alone!
Would YOU like to get called a naif because not having those skills?
Certainly NOT, so check out my FREE courses please to become a good e-Citizen, Digital-Citizen and share it with YOUR family, colleagues, friends and…
[Beginning Text from Mashable] In our Cybercrime Series, presented by Norton, Mashableexplores some of the web’s greatest security breaches. Not so clever after all…man falls victim to IQ test scam
A Luxembourg resident fell victim to an online scam after he scored an exceptionally high IQ score in a web-based test.
After completing an online IQ test with a score of 162 a man living in Mondorf-les-Bains was contacted via email by someone claiming to work for Interpol.
Read the whole story here, you will get a big laugh:
It took me a really a while before I took the courage to post the following now:
Following Teachers, Educators, Principals on Social Media for ages I see sometimes very strange attitudesfrom people who SHOULD have the RESPONSIBILITY knowledge about WHAT they are posting, BUT it isn’t so and that is WHY I post this NOW!
.
Because of being lazy, those teaching people make abbreviations of already existing ones to a two letter format such as:
Ss for students: Ss is a word from WWII & SHOULDN’t get used at ALL!!!
SM for “Social Media” ===> #SoMe is BETTER. SM is the official abbreviation for “SadoMaso”, which means Sadism & Masochism :(((
A global view of existing short words should be appreciated for the future as once published it is seen worldwide, please take this as an advice, thanks 😉
.
The bad guys are profiting from that naivety and ignorance and are making very BIG MONEY, even by using our own computers and private data, and all this without our knowledge as we don’t see what is happening on our computers and Smartphones when they are not protected! This should make anybody critical thinking and awareness should be the practice, protecting any device who accesses the Internet!
.Anything else which is important? YES, ICT Awareness!
To make sure that YOU will NOT be in a NAIVETY status, I recommend YOU to read the following:
YOU will learn NOT to be a naif and to see the reality!

..
WHAT YOU MUST KNOW!
.
We are ALL responsible for a secure Internet!
Automatic Windows Update must be enabled
For Apple devices: ALL the updates must be installed also!
Third Party Programs are responsible for 78% of vulnerabilities!!! What are Third Party Applications (Programs)?Knowing that third party programs are vulnerable also, we must update them also! Use SECUNIA PSI to update automatically third party programs https://secunia.com/
Browsers (ALL) need to get updated! This is also a MUST for Apple devices!
While using “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device), we ALL (Teachers, Educators and Learners) are responsible, not the IT-Admin alone!
While using “BYOD” we need a strong “BYOD-Policy” at least!
While using “BYOD” it is recommended to have also a “MDM” (Mobile Device Management)!
It is recommend to organize a “Teacher-Parents-Meeting” to explain the parents that their kids are safe in your school, explaining them the efforts you make and asking them also to help their kids to respect the “BYOD-Policy”!
The weakest link in the Security Chain is the human! If you don’t respect certain advice you will get tricked by the Cyber-Criminals!
