WHAT’S the MOST IMPORTANT in Professional Development-Teacher Training in Modern EDUcation!?

Is it the use of #EdTech (Apps and WHATEVER), technology, WHAT MOST of educators, teachers are advocating on Social-Media twitter and OTHER platforms!??? Certainly NOT!!! WE are living in a world WHERE WE need more than EVER to work together and to forget about the selfish!!! In any company WHERE OUR students, learners need to work THEY will need to have <===> Soft-Skills <===> the ability to work in a team, with collaboration skills, being able to adapt with a multicultural environment…

Let us talk about Soft-Skills, WHAT is it!??? Check below, please:

I posted today (09-05-2017) THIS tweet on twitter, please have a look on it and GO for Deep-Thinking ūüėČ

WHY did I post THIS!? Well, when I see WHAT Educators, Teachers post on Social-Media twitter, sorry, I MUST say that the majority didn’t understand WHAT #ModernEDU is actually!!! :(((

Educators, Teachers DON’T EVEN look on WHAT are the skills needed for the students, learners in a Modern-World working with ICT; THEY look ONLY on WHAT THEY think (really!!!???) about WHAT THEY think is important for THEM to survive to maintain the status quo! :((( Let us have a look WHAT OUR students, learners need for skills in a Modern-World, check the infographic below please.

.

what-skills-will-you-need-to-succeed-in-the-future_5061e259a60b6_w587

.

Actually MOST Educators, Teachers are nearly NOTHING ELSE as <===> Herd Mentality followers <===> and are following the ones who have chosen THE WRONG path, with a lot (as usual) talk, talk, talk without efficient come out on Social-Media; BUT STILL continuing!!! Since MORE than fifty (50) years it is like THAT (EVEN without Social-Media at that time…), so WHY changing!??? Sounds hard!??? About time THEN to go for serious analyzing and deep-thinking YOUR OWN habits and especially online postings on Social-Media!! It’s about time to get realistic and to accept the reality!! Once the degree, diploma in the pocket and having a secured place in schools, teachers and educators feel like GODS and block anything what THEY think might get THEM away from THEIR control over students, learners and OTHERS with a different mentality! Same ALSO for having contact and listen to advice from industry, working force; which is actually a MUST!! Educators, teachers need to go more for collaboration to ensure that their learners, students will get the appropriate skills and knowledge to survive in an ever quick growing world.

.

Most dangerous phrase...

.

Following the masses....

.

Educators, teachers are following online ONLY (like in a herd mentality…) THE ones WHO THEY think give THEM BEST advice about WHAT Modern-EDUcation is: BUT those ones are THE ones WHERE THEIR <===> Professional Development <===> is FAR BEHIND!! THEY even haven’t read the latest books about pedagogy of ¬†Modern-EDUcation and are following on a stubborn way and leading to a wrong way!!

Enough criticism and feedback, SO WHAT makes professional educators, teachers?

First of all I would recommend some books which ANY educators, teachers SHOULD read to understand WHAT Modern-Education pedagogy and practice is; please check image below.

How-To Adapt To THAT Mass Of Information On The Internet?

programmerman-animatedWHAT I have seen on Social-Media is THAT Educators, Teachers are struggling with ALL the mass of information THEY get and DON’T know HOW to deal with it!!! I suggest to use “Curation” and to create YOUR OWN “Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management”, called ALSO #PKM, check below for more information, please:

.

And WHERE is Creativity!?

Actually EDUcation is following more and more Sir Ken ROBINSON about his creativity statements (which are MORE than right BTW!), BUT on Social-Media and in the classrooms it doesn’t really show up yet!! I don’t want to talk too much about it, instead I want THAT YOU to read the following:

Growth Mindset

And WHAT about Critical-Thinking AND Proactive-Thinking!?

programmerman2.

In an EVER changing (too quick actually…) world around and with ICT, it is a MUST to have knowledge and developed skills about¬†Critical-Thinking AND Proactive-Thinking! BOTH are required to understand about “Fake News” and Cyber-Security!!

Getting ready for Modern-EDUcation: FIRST try to understand WHAT it is

Evolution of Education: Wordle Logo

Modern-EDUcation: FIRST try to understand WHAT it is before taking the wrong path!

programmerman-animatedLet us be honest: EDUcation is far behind of WHAT it should be able to face the challenges of a modern world which is evolving quicker than WE can follow! Because of ICT everything is nearly possible: NEW professions are emerging through NEW ideas; Entrepreneurship is one of the biggest evolving one. One can’t count anymore the possibilities, nor predict WHAT will be next professions! SO, WHAT does this mean for EDUcation!?

EDUcation can’t follow, nor adapt THAT quickly, without talking about the minds behind WHO don’t want to change as well!!! SO, is there any possibility for students, learners, THEY could be benefiting with and/for an Up-To-Date knowledge!? YES, there is a solution: students and learners should get taught about <===> LEARNing-To-LEARN <===> so that they would be able for <===> Life-Long LEARNing, this is THE BEST way to look for a <===> Long-Term solution <===> as one can’t get ALL the necessary knowledge anymore in schools!!

Please read:

WE should go on <===> Proactive THINKing <===> to adjust this well known situation and to adapt by teaching the students learners the way of <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> and to encourage them to become autodidacts, self-directed learners! That’s THE BEST way for them to stay <===> Up-To-Date <===> and that’s WHAT is counting in a modern and ever growing society! The workforce/industry needs this to be competitive!¬†

FIRST of all WE need to know WHAT are the skills students need to have

.

what-skills-will-you-need-to-succeed-in-the-future_5061e259a60b6_w587

.

There is a Windows dominance on the market!!! SO, don’t use ONLY Apple products in your school, BUT make for sure that YOUR LEARNers, Students will know and have the skills to work on that “OS”; of course you might use as well iPads! BUT make sure that there is a mix of different “OS” anyway.¬†As educational persons WE have a BIG Responsibility to prepare OUR Students, LEARNers for the future! NO Cherry-Picking allowed!!! NO preferences for #AnyOS #AnyDevice!!! A mixture of THEM YES, orientated about WHAT “OS” is leading the market.

How can EDUcators TEACHers and EDU understand WHAT Modern EDU is!?

change-gartner-2016Well, there are some really good books which will help EDUcators TEACHers to understand WHAT Modern-EDU and NEW pedagogy is to be prepared for THE CHANGE; YES it is a BIG CHANGE which might not be easy for lots as THE role of the EDUcators TEACHers will change; NOT having anymore the control, the power, of a classroom BUT being a coach WHO is trying to get a win-win situation TOGETHER with the learners, students. Personally I think that fearing to lose the control and power is the common point for most educating persons for NOT adapting to Modern-EDU!

BUT, THAT is wrong! You will get even more recognized and respected WHEN you play the coach role; my experience over ten (10) years. Put the students in the drivers seat, let them teach also and learn also from them ūüėČ

SO, read FIRST my selection of books, which helped ME to understand about Modern-EDU and where that acquired knowledge led me, please:

.

MUST READ BOOKS

.

For BEST understanding I recommend to YOU to start first with “5 Minds for the Future“, followed by “FOUR-DIMENSIONAL EDUCATION” and then “The App Generation“.

If YOU are multilingual (English, French, German), you might read as well my books selection which I have read and which helped me a lot:

.

Check about WHAT the book¬†“5 Minds for the Future” is:

.

Synthesizing Mind-5 Minds for the future

.

Linear learning was YESTERDAY; imagine learning <===> time, too long to catch up when only A, then B, Then C… Check AGAIN the PIC above, please ūüėČ

Time is ALSO a very IMPORTANT part of Modern-EDU to adjust for quicker learning WHEN knowing about “TEAM-TEACHing“, called ALSO “Co-TEACHing” and the How-To about making learning really meaningful and professional, check below, please:

.

What are the barriers to overcome for that THE CHANGE happens? Obstacles to make the next steps to Modern-EDU

.

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-aigainformation1Without a lot of talking myself, I invite you to read the following articles which explain  at its BEST:

.

Quote from [https://twitter.com/kimgarst] “If you don’t leave your past in the past, it WILL destroy your future. Live for what today has to offer, not for what yesterday has taken away.

You have to fight against OTHERS who are NOT wanting THE CHANGE, the “StatusQuo” advocates, make curation WHERE you will curate the necessary arguments to convince and/or beat them with their OWN arguments!!

.

.

Listening, very important:

.

How to become GREAT Teachers, EDUcators which understand about Modern-EDU?

mediocrity-reward-nice-talking.

There are TOO MANY average (Mediocrity) EDUcators TEACHers around, Students and LEARNers need BETTER!!! Educational persons SHOULD read the below curated articles and finding out on WHAT they have to improve, please ūüėČ

Coaches and/or mentors are a MUST

programmerman-animatedAs already mentioned in my first phrases of this blog post, with normal training for “Professional Development”, YOU can’t catch UP quickly enough!! SO, are there different ways? YES, by using Social Media, especially Twitter YOU can create a #PLN, a “Personal [Professional] Learning Network” from where YOU can learn already together, even ALSO by using Twitter Chats.

Learn more:

BUT there is ALSO another way: using blogs! Sounds strange? Well, with “WordPress” this is possible as YOU can invite co-authors on the same blog post and coaching over Twitter with “DM” (Direct Messages, called ALSO Private Messages) YOUR co-authors. I do this already since 2007-2008, started it on “Google Knol”, who was discontinued on May 1, 2012 where¬† I was one of the Knol-TOP10-English authors and also Author-of-the-Week in November 2009 with more than 1.4 millions of visits. “Google Knol” is one of LOTS of OTHER products from Google WHO are on the “Google Grave Yard“!

.

Gust MEES-Knol-Author-Of-The-Week-2009

.

Later I started blogging on WordPress and as I missed it working together with OTHERS, I did my coaching with EDUcators, TEACHers from different countries by inviting THEM to become co-authors on some of my blog posts. I was the editor and THEY were the co-authors, meaning they had a bit restrictions ONLY on WHAT to do with the main blog. SO, THEY learned about the How-To to use blogs (WordPress) through my coaching and ALSO about THE TOPIC WE were writing about; the coaching was done through Twitter “DM’s”; WE used blogs AND Twitter!

I did a LOT of those “Global-Collaboration” on blogging with different co-authors and I encourage everybody to do the same as it is a GREAT experience as one learns from each other ūüėČ

WHAT could be done different while using ICT and NEW Pedagogy

programmerman2.

Well, that is a question I get asked very often; it is actually NOT that difficult, it just needs to understand WHAT Modern-EDU is and WHAT are THE tools (NO, NO, NOT Apps…, THEY are ONLY facilitators) WE can use to give OUR Students, LEARNers the necessary skills to survive in an ever changing world.

.

Check below, please:

Check out my Learning-Path with ICT Practice to get the idea about it, please:

SO many information, THE letter “I” in ICT, I can’t follow anymore!! Well, I can understand YOU, BUT there is a solution for it! ūüėČ Through curation and Social-Media (by creating a PLN on Twitter…) YOU can create a <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management (PKM), check my blog post below please: PKM ‚Äď Personal [Professional] Knowledge¬†Management:

And WHAT Is About Creativity!?

Let us start with a video from <===> Sir Ken ROBINSON <===>, please listen to it. Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

.

.

There is actually a BIG move to creativity in EDUcation worldwide, e.g. <===> THE Maker-Movement; please check below for more information:

.

WHAT will influence EDUcation in the future!?

Is there something which one can predict, without being a wizard!? YES; for sure as persons WHO read constantly on each day WHAT is NEW on technology and science as well as research papers one can say this, see below, please:

Introduction to Teaching in 21st Century

gears iconTeaching in 21st Century¬†is becoming a challenge actually for teaching-people, not everybody has the knowledge about new teaching-technologies (Tools…) and new teaching-education, especially not teaching persons with a certain age, so let us try in this knol to propose on HowTo this could get “learned” and also on HowTo the teaching-people could work “together” with their learners (students) with¬†21st Century knowledge

.
A very BIG change for teaching-people. They have now also to go away from teaching the old way, it is not anymore the teaching person who is the “BOSS” in the classroom, there is no “BOSS” anymore. Teaching people and learners will work “Together” on a “win-win situation“,¬†like two gears¬†(as shown in the “icon”¬† up the text here)¬†to make the¬†learning process go forward… Teaching-people should also forward to their learners¬†Learning to Learn.
.

Don’t forget also the social aspects of your learners, very important!!! Please have a look here and think about it:¬†Luxembourg students are reaching burnout. [GM]:¬†Luxembourg¬†(my country) does a lot for such situations, check out to learn more¬†CPOS.
.
The author has given courses himself since eight (8) years (2010) based on¬†Howard GARDNER‘s¬†andDaniel GOLEMAN‘s¬†¬†knowledge to seniors, adults and also youth and classrooms from¬†K-3¬†to¬†K-12¬†and he had a¬†very positive feedback¬†from teachers (K-3¬†to¬†K-12) and the other¬†learnersLearning who makes fun when well organized.¬†The teaching person needs to make a good preparation¬†and he needs to know the possible tools and the¬†habits of digital age natives.¬†And taught than the learner gets interested and learns more and better, a big progress.

Are You On The Path To 1:1???

sharing iconStudents should get prepared for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship by offering a challenging, relevant curriculum and varied activities in a safe environment.¬†In his book¬†Education Nation,¬†Milton Chen¬†calls 1:1 access ‚Äúthe digital civil right of every student to participate in his or her own education.‚ÄĚ ¬†I could not agree more and¬†if we truly care about our students, then we will toss aside our anxiety and remember our primary role as educators to prepare our students for what they will face when they leave our schools.¬†Since the world outside our doors is changing at a faster rate than any time in history, we should be seeing some shifts within our walls as well.

The teaching person needs to have a good knowledge about possible 21st Century tools to well prepare his courses to make them interesting for his¬†learners… Not ONLY preparing the learners for getting a diploma, but¬†preparing them to be able to have¬†competences!!!

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”

What is New In 21st Century Teaching And Learning???

thumbsupnathaneady01It is not anymore the teacher (teacher, professor, educator, instructor, coach…) who is the most important person. The¬†person who teaches (teacher, professor, instructor…) will act as a coach. Thus meaning: it is not the teaching person¬†who is the most important, but¬†the learner. The teaching person observes the learner (that is what we learned anyway as we followed pedagogical courses), the expression of his body while the learner is working on his project, the teaching person observes also what the learner says and also the¬†rhythm¬†of his voice, this gives us a feedback on how well the learner is doing and than the teaching person guides the learner.
A project, which ever one in¬†ICT¬†¬†should get made by “learning by doing“. Learners should get¬†encouraged¬†to make faults, unusual but the best way to learn… Remember: when we were kids we need also to learn to walk. We were falling a lot of times and that hurts. So we remembered it, the same for courses “learning by doing“, making faults and mistakes will get remembered by the brain not to do anymore so…¬†The learning process goes further…
.

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”¬†(Seneca the Younger)

“I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.”¬†– Socrates¬†

The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without a teacher.

Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) American author, editor and printer.

“Learning To Learn” is a teaching person’s main task, coaching the learner to achieve this task.¬†Gust MEES [I said this already when I was 12 years old and now I am 56 and I din’t make me friends with that. Now I will try to push that again trough Internet…]

 .
The teaching person is serving the learner, and will act as a¬†coach, a trustful and respectable person, sometimes even as a friend. The learner will become only that good as the teacher does well his job ūüėČ A big change isn’t it??? It is not anymore the teacher who is on a HIGH position and the learner on a LOW position, but it is both on a non hierarchical position, a¬†win-win situation… There shouldn’t be neither time restrictions, learning needs time and persons learn differently…Teaching people need also a lot of patience and lots of energy to do so. For teachers, coaches, educators, professors: this needs some months practice (till about a year) till you find your own appropriate way (your own “style”), but it is worth to do it…
 .
The efforts you brought in you will get them 10 times back,¬†teaching and learning makes fun now for learners and teaching stuff,¬†less stress¬†on both sides and a¬†positive feedback for the teaching people…
.
When teaching (giving courses to) ten (10) people by a normal way, you normally get out only 30% of the learners who understood really about what you¬†tried¬†to make understand them, when you are a good teacher maybe 40%.¬†When using the way I did, you will come out to about 90%-95%, a big progress…
.

 .
A win-win situation between course instructor (coach) and learners which brings out a maximum to the learner, the most important…

How Could That Be In Practice???

help-books-aj.svgajash01-1
First of all I recommend you to read some books to understand, I recommend books fromHoward GARDNER and Daniel GOLEMAN, see also my book selection on the end of this knol:
.
.
  • 5 Minds For The Future¬†(Howard GARDNER)¬†to understand what the world needs for abilities fom students in 21st Century…
.
  • The Disciplinary Mind: the mastery of¬†major schools of thought, including¬†science, mathematics, and history, and of¬†at least one professional craft.
  • The Synthesizing Mind: the ability to¬†integrate ideas from different disciplines¬†or spheres into a coherent whole and to¬†communicate that integration to others.
  • The Creating Mind: the capacity to¬†uncover and clarify new problems,¬†questions and phenomena.
  • The Respectful Mind: awareness of and¬†appreciation for differences among¬†human beings and human groups.
  • The Ethical Mind: fulfillment of one’s¬†responsibilities as a worker and as a¬†citizen.
 .
No practice could be done good without a good base of theory, but when having followed some pedagogical courses about new ways of education you could easily try the following suggestions:
.

As mentioned already above, it is the learner (student) who is the most important and not every learner is learning on the same way, we as human are all different and so we are also learning, differently… There are people they are learning better on “visual effects”, as others may like more “auditive” messages, people who prefer learning without noise at all around as also people who need a music-background to learn best (as I do…), people who prefer to be alone to learn as also people they like to learn and to¬†work together in a team…

Working in a team is needed for 21st Century,¬†the Power of different knowledge merged to one only knowledge to resolve the problems of this world…¬†Thus also meaning that children and adults need to get educated to “cross-border-thinking“, as Internet allows a 24/24 hours connexion to the whole world and that people from different nationalities can work together without any problems, even when not understanding the same language, translation tools make this possible…
.
Life Long Learning made easy and for FREE!
And that is what the new generation of Internet tools, the “Cloud” is providing, e.g.¬†Google docs, where it is possible to work as a team on the same document and where the team could be spread around the world because the document is accessible online…
.
.
.
One is for sure,¬†the Internet could help a lot for using all these possibilities¬†to get the maximum out for every learner, let us use it… One new project for¬†21st Century Learning and Teaching¬†is the “Papillon Project“, who will get discussed more here below…

Students to make curious again in lessons is mission of innovative content concepts to reduce the rate of school failure. Papillon is such a solution concept. By linking real and virtual learning environments Internet becomes the classroom.

And as Internet is the classroom the learners can access it anytime they want, thus meaning:¬†if the¬†teaching-person makes his courses interesting for the learners¬†those will even access the “classroom” without that the teaching-person needs to tell them to do,¬†learners will have a look anyway because they will find course material which is interesting for them, a success…

.
Papillon-Method: The architecture of the concept is based on narration and interaction. The hybrid system combines the advantages of static and dynamic representation of contents and is a merging of imagination and scientific facts and allows a 3-dimensional view on the recommended topical focus.
 .
The Papillon method offers a real and an imaginary level.
.
  • First, the real world of knowledge.¬†
  • Second, a fictional world of characters and stories, which ¬†reader has to explore.¬†

Survey from Berlin Technical University

“[…]Papillon is worthy of praise in the area of media pedagogy (enhancement of the instruction through materials) both from the perspective of what is urgently needed for the future (Internet competence) and the psychology of learning (motivation/interest and orientation toward action) and a very promising project is worthy of support“

Engaging and Motivating Students…

community-jpeg

Engaging and motivating students:¬†this is the most important part of your teaching career, it is the first touch with your students who is the most important (which ever age they have…), this gives them the “first impression of you”…

 .
When introducing yourself, don’t make ONLY an traditional introducing, but tell your students that they are the most important in your courses and not you!!! Tell them also that you let them work alone and/or in groups (but respecting some order in the classroom, order which you define on the beginning in a friendly speaking way…) and that after having¬†taught¬†them what to do that you will be present but leaving them alone and watching how they do and if necessary when needed you will be present to help out. Be their guide, their coach, be only there when needed!!! In¬†this moment show that you have¬†competences, not only your diploma, your degree!!!
 .
Sometimes. while walking through the rows of the tables in the classroom you may remark that there are problems (you will feel that because of your pedagogical education…), so this is the moment to ask your students if they would like your help… In this moment don’t ONLY show the solution (your help…) to that part of students, but switch on the “beamer” and show it to ALL of the students, some may not have shown that they didn’t understood it…
When they have questions which you can’t answer at the moment, write those questions down somewhere where they can see it also and tell them that for the next course and/or they will get the answer(s) by email or on the collaborative platform of the school (university)… Nobody is perfect, you would be the first one ūüėČ Build also a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) database where every body could have access, so you will be prepared for the same answer by other students…

.
[GM]: The Quality of any done work is dependent on the¬†Quality¬†of the used “tools” and the¬†ability to use them…

Doing it this way your learners will appreciate and respect you, because you are showing to them that you have¬†competences, competences which you can share with them, don’t hide your personality behind your diploma and degree, show them who you are. Show them that you are competent to give them courses ūüėČ

Keywords:¬†competences, 21st cetury knowledge, coach, ability to give courses, respect, pedagogical background, ability to adapt on any situation…

.

What Are The Tools I Can Use???

.

Dokeos
Update (09.03.2011): Dokeos 2.0 is the new release. It is thoroughly redesigned and adapted to the recent evolution of technologies and their uses: mindmapping integration in learning processes, scenario tools for training modules, management of social networks for a collaborative learning, touchscreen interface adapted for mobile media (smartphones, tablets, iPad …).
.
 Dokeos
.
While working with¬†LMS¬†(Learning¬†Management¬†System) don’t forget the aspect of¬†security, thus meaning: when¬†new updates¬†for those¬†LMS¬†are available (you get notified by email and/or over the platform itself) youneed to update immediately¬†otherwise your learning platform could be vulnerable and¬†you could infect your learners and visitors with malware. Chose a person who has the necessary skills to do it and that person will than be the administrator of the learning platform…

Using¬†MindMaps¬†makes it much more easy to visualize a project, by seeing the MindMap most people understand directly what the target is and also what the different tasks are…
Practical Tip:¬†print out the MindMap and strikeout all done tasks, this makes it more easy to have an overview of still to do tasks and/or change the MindMap on your computer with strikeout (strikeout) and foreseen date and print it out again…

Mobile barcodes, storing addresses and URLs, are a new and innovative way to access the mobile internet where users can use the camera on their mobile phone to scan barcodes that may appear in magazines, newspapers, billboards, LCD/plasma screens, packaging, business card and even t-shirts. A user having a mobile camera phone equipped with the correct reader software can scan the image of the 2D barcode causing the phone browser to launch and direct to the programmed URL. Codes can be used to provide fast-track access to mobile websites, special discount offers, send an SMS, and receive a ring-tone, save contact details on mobile address book.

But Internet, the “virtual world” is regulated by laws who are differing from one country to the other one. What Can Education Do For A Better World???

Education, if well managed can do a lot for a better world. The teaching system (worldwide) should teaching more about sensibleness of nature and social conflicts, not only the basics what is already on the teaching¬†schedule, more teaching of sensibleness how humans are destroying our planet, trying to make learners sensible to the planet problems…

What is Education already doing for a better world??? In lots of countries the Ministry of Education provides the schools and universities with the facility for creating their websites by offering them also the hosting space. [GM]: My Personal Advice…

sharing icon

By introducing the learners to the same tools which the teaching-person uses they will feelmotivated¬†as the teaching person shares his¬†secrets¬†with them and they will learn what are the¬†best tools and also how to use them and this done as a Team-Work will be best for the education process…

Tip: this applies to any age… teaching persons needs only to tell them that he (she) shares his secrets with them to create (produce) good and excellent stuff ūüėČ Motivate your learners, make them feel equal (win-win situation) with the teaching person and you will see the progress…
.
All those presented “tools” should not only be used alone by the teaching-person, but also shown to the learners and trying together with them to realize different projects with those “tools”…

Tell me and I will forget, Show me and I will remember, let me try and I will understand. (Confucius)
