Tutankhamun Exhibition in Cologne (DE)
Tutankhamun
Tutankhamun – his tomb and his treasures…
EXPO XXI – Gladbacher Wall 5
until 20th, March 2011
A sensational discovery 88 years ago turned the unknown pharaoh Tutankhamun into a superstar. In 1922, the archaeologist Howard Carterdiscovered the burial chambers of the ancient Egyptian king with their vast treasures – an event that caused a worldwide sensation.
The story of Tutankhamun fascinates people to this day. His mysterious, premature death and unique legacy are the stuff of legend.
The exhibition shows the world’s only museum-quality replica of mankind’s most fascinating tomb and its treasures. Now, for the first time, after 88 years it offers the opportunity to visit the tomb three-dimensionally in its original state. Welcome to the Valley of Kings in Cologne: The Exhibition Web Site
Inside the exhibition: it is allowed to take photos inside that exhibition, but without using the flash. So profit from it, I did… Photos below are my propriety and there is also a copyright message in the photos. If you find a photo where you think that there is no viewable copyright in it, take care… There might be a hidden one 😉
While enjoying the Picasa-Slide-Show, please listen to the music in the music-videos below, make your choice…

Cologne (Germany)
Text from Wikipedia: Cologne (Köln in German) is Germany’s fourth-largest city (after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich), and is the largest city both in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and within the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Area, one of the major European metropolitan areas with more than ten million inhabitants (that is 20 times more than Luxembourg has inhabitants). It is one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been founded by the Ubii in the year 38 BC. The name is derived from that of the Roman settlement, Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium.
Amateurs of museums would love Cologne because Cologne is home of more than 30 museums. What visitors of museums should know is that it is not allowed to bring in the museums handbags, nor photo bags…
Cologne is nice to explore by walking, make sure to book a hotel not too far away from the cathedral, otherwise take the suburban, the S-Bahn… You may also use sometimes the taxi, they have fair prices in Cologne, e.g: from the cathedral to the exhibition XXI the costs were 9 € (25.01.2011)…
Use alsoVirtualTourist to find out what other visitors say about Cologne…
.
Warnings and dangers:
.
There are a lot of bikers in Cologne and on the pavement they have their special lane, watch out. If not used to it you might get an accident with a bike while walking on the pavement (it nearly happen 3 times to me…). The pavements in Cologne are broader than usually and this allows a special lane for bikers on the pavement, a very good solution, the bikes are not on the road and they can drive safely…
This Irish Pub has the specialty that it shows football matches in 3D on TV. My first experience with a 3D TV. Customers who want to watch the emissions in 3D ask the bar stuff and they will get furnished 3D glasses…
First I created this blog for my own purpose, but then I thought also about on publishing it on a way as that it could get used as an idea on HowTo for education. That’s why you will find that much information on it, it’s created as a multidisciplinary blog and could get used as a sort of template for others in education…
.
You will find not only a description of the exhibition, but also information about the City Cologne as of the Country Germany as well as information about Egyptology and more… So it’s a valuable source…
.
That’s what you should do also with your learners, students when visiting an exhibition:
.
let them take photos (when authorized only!)
let them create a blog about it, as I did here, and let them express their thoughts and impressions…
ask them to bring in also information about the country (or state…)
ask them to bring in also information about the global theme (here it was Egyptology)…
ask them also to bring in music videos as a bit entertainment (you will motivate them…) related to that theme…
ask them to create also slideshows…
show them HowTo promote their blogs through Social Medias such as Twitter…
Look at following keywords to find out about what you should think about and what this sort of blogs will result in.
.
Keywords: creativity, motivation, self-learning, autodidact, critical thinking, engaging, competences, multimedia skills, social media skills, learning to learn, culture, history, rich multimedia, problem solving (finding hotels, finding best places to go out, finding best restaurants…), organization skills, learning to live in other countries, multicultural, using tables to display lots of videos for better presentation,

Teaching in 21st Century is becoming a challenge actually for teaching-people, not everybody has the knowledge about new teaching-technologies (Tools…) and new teaching-education, especially not teaching persons with a certain age, so let us try in this knol to propose on HowTo this could get “learned” and also on HowTo the teaching-people could work “together” with their learners (students) with21st Century knowledge…
.
A very BIG change for teaching-people. They have now also to go away from teaching the old way, it is not anymore the teaching person who is the “BOSS” in the classroom, there is no “BOSS” anymore. Teaching people and learners will work “Together” on a “win-win situation“,like two gears (as shown in the “icon” up the text here)to make thelearning process go forward… Teaching-people should also forward to their learners Learning to Learn.
.
Don’t forget also the social aspects of your learners, very important!!! Please have a look here and think about it: Luxembourg students are reaching burnout. [GM]: Luxembourg (my country) does a lot for such situations, check out to learn more CPOS.
.
The author has given courses himself since eight (8) years (2010) based on Howard GARDNER‘s andDaniel GOLEMAN‘s knowledge to seniors, adults and also youth and classrooms from K-3 to K-12 and he had avery positive feedback from teachers (K-3 to K-12) and the other learners… Learning who makes fun when well organized. The teaching person needs to make a good preparation and he needs to know the possible tools and the habits of digital age natives. And taught than the learner gets interested and learns more and better, a big progress.
Students should get prepared for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship by offering a challenging, relevant curriculum and varied activities in a safe environment. In his book Education Nation, Milton Chen calls 1:1 access “the digital civil right of every student to participate in his or her own education.” I could not agree more andif we truly care about our students, then we will toss aside our anxiety and remember our primary role as educators to prepare our students for what they will face when they leave our schools.Since the world outside our doors is changing at a faster rate than any time in history, we should be seeing some shifts within our walls as well.
What You Should Know About Web 2.0, 21st Century Responsibility for Teachers and Social Learning…
“Kids between the ages of 8 and 18 spend 11.5 hours a day using technology — whether that’s computers, television, mobile phones, or video games – and usually more than one at a time. That’s a big chunk of their 15 or 16 waking hours.”
The teaching person needs to have a good knowledge about possible 21st Century tools to well prepare his courses to make them interesting for his learners… Not ONLY preparing the learners for getting a diploma, butpreparing them to be able to have competences!!!
“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”
(Seneca the Younger)
“Knowledge is easy (in some way [copy&paste]) to forward. Forwarding competences needs that the teaching person has also competences”. (Gust MEES)
Teachers and learners are like two gears who are making the learning process going forward (Gust MEES)
Keywords:
Motivation, creativity, positive feedback, no stress, win-win situation, fun, learning process, 21st Century knowledge, think outside the box, new ideas, adapt your skills, competences, crowdsourcing…
And when well prepared the courses, a positive feedback for the teaching-person motivates this one to go further also, no frustration but motivation… Think outside the boxand use your creativity…

What is New In 21st Century Teaching And Learning???
It is not anymore the teacher (teacher, professor, educator, instructor, coach…) who is the most important person. The person who teaches (teacher, professor, instructor…) will act as a coach. Thus meaning: it is not the teaching person who is the most important, but the learner. The teaching person observes the learner (that is what we learned anyway as we followed pedagogical courses), the expression of his body while the learner is working on his project, the teaching person observes also what the learner says and also the rhythm of his voice, this gives us a feedback on how well the learner is doing and than the teaching person guides the learner.
A project, which ever one in ICT should get made by “learning by doing“. Learners should get encouraged to make faults, unusual but the best way to learn… Remember: when we were kids we need also to learn to walk. We were falling a lot of times and that hurts. So we remembered it, the same for courses “learning by doing“, making faults and mistakes will get remembered by the brain not to do anymore so…The learning process goes further…
.
“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” (Seneca the Younger)
“I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.”– Socrates
The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without a teacher.
Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) American author, editor and printer.
“Learning To Learn” is a teaching person’s main task, coaching the learner to achieve this task. Gust MEES [I said this already when I was 12 years old and now I am 56 and I din’t make me friends with that. Now I will try to push that again trough Internet…]
.
.
Keywords:
21st century learning, narration and interaction, real and imaginary level, learning on an vivid and understandable way, passion, cross-subject education, cross-border thinking, interconnectedness of our global world, different media and disciplines, emotional and motivating effects, motivation, inspiration, learning catalyst, solving the problems of the future, knowing the tools of 21st century…
.
The teaching person is serving the learner, and will act as a coach, a trustful and respectable person, sometimes even as a friend. The learner will become only that good as the teacher does well his job 😉 A big change isn’t it??? It is not anymore the teacher who is on a HIGH position and the learner on a LOW position, but it is both on a non hierarchical position, a win-win situation… There shouldn’t be neither time restrictions, learning needs time and persons learn differently…Teaching people need also a lot of patience and lots of energy to do so. For teachers, coaches, educators, professors: this needs some months practice (till about a year) till you find your own appropriate way (your own “style”), but it is worth to do it…
.
The efforts you brought in you will get them 10 times back, teaching and learning makes fun now for learners and teaching stuff, less stress on both sides and a positive feedback for the teaching people…
.
When teaching (giving courses to) ten (10) people by a normal way, you normally get out only 30% of the learners who understood really about what you tried to make understand them, when you are a good teacher maybe 40%. When using the way I did, you will come out to about 90%-95%, a big progress…
First of all I recommend you to read some books to understand, I recommend books fromHoward GARDNER and Daniel GOLEMAN, see also my book selection on the end of this knol:
.
.
5 Minds For The Future (Howard GARDNER) to understand what the world needs for abilities fom students in 21st Century…
.
The Disciplinary Mind: the mastery of major schools of thought, including science, mathematics, and history, and of at least one professional craft.
The Synthesizing Mind: the ability to integrate ideas from different disciplines or spheres into a coherent whole and to communicate that integration to others.
The Creating Mind: the capacity to uncover and clarify new problems, questions and phenomena.
The Respectful Mind: awareness of and appreciation for differences among human beings and human groups.
The Ethical Mind: fulfillment of one’s responsibilities as a worker and as a citizen.
.
No practice could be done good without a good base of theory, but when having followed some pedagogical courses about new ways of education you could easily try the following suggestions:
As mentioned already above, it is the learner (student) who is the most important and not every learner is learning on the same way, we as human are all different and so we are also learning, differently… There are people they are learning better on “visual effects”, as others may like more “auditive” messages, people who prefer learning without noise at all around as also people who need a music-background to learn best (as I do…), people who prefer to be alone to learn as also people they like to learn and to work together in a team…
Working in a team is needed for 21st Century, the Power of different knowledge merged to one only knowledge to resolve the problems of this world… Thus also meaning that children and adults need to get educated to “cross-border-thinking“, as Internet allows a 24/24 hours connexion to the whole world and that people from different nationalities can work together without any problems, even when not understanding the same language, translation tools make this possible…
.
Life Long Learning made easy and for FREE!
And that is what the new generation of Internet tools, the “Cloud” is providing, e.g. Google docs, where it is possible to work as a team on the same document and where the team could be spread around the world because the document is accessible online…
.
.
.
One is for sure, the Internet could help a lot for using all these possibilities to get the maximum out for every learner, let us use it… One new project for 21st Century Learning and Teaching is the “Papillon Project“, who will get discussed more here below…
Students to make curious again in lessons is mission of innovative content concepts to reduce the rate of school failure. Papillon is such a solution concept.By linking real and virtual learning environments Internet becomes the classroom.
And as Internet is the classroom the learners can access it anytime they want, thus meaning: if the teaching-person makes his courses interesting for the learners those will even access the “classroom” without that the teaching-person needs to tell them to do, learners will have a look anyway because they will find course material which is interesting for them, a success…
Papillon-Method: The architecture of the concept is based onnarration and interaction. The hybrid system combines the advantages of static and dynamic representation of contents and is a merging of imagination and scientific facts and allows a 3-dimensional view on the recommended topical focus.
.
The Papillon method offers a real and an imaginary level.
.
First, the real world of knowledge.
Second, a fictional world of characters and stories, which reader has to explore.
“[…]Papillon is worthy of praise in the area of media pedagogy (enhancement of the instruction through materials) both from the perspective of what is urgently needed for the future (Internet competence) and the psychology of learning (motivation/interest and orientation toward action) and a very promising project is worthy of support“
.
But why do I talk that much??? Have a look yourself and make your own opinion about it, here below the links…
The learning environment is greatly enhanced by the latest in interactive whiteboards, videoconferencing equipment, wireless laptops, digital cameras, camcorders and audiovisual equipment…
Engaging and motivating students: this is the most important part of your teaching career, it is the first touch with your students who is the most important (which ever age they have…), this gives them the “first impression of you”…
.
When introducing yourself, don’t make ONLY an traditional introducing, but tell your students that they are the most important in your courses and not you!!! Tell them also that you let them work alone and/or in groups (but respecting some order in the classroom, order which you define on the beginning in a friendly speaking way…) and that after having taught them what to do that you will be present but leaving them alone and watching how they do and if necessary when needed you will be present to help out. Be their guide, their coach, be only there when needed!!! In this moment show that you have competences, not only your diploma, your degree!!!
.
Sometimes. while walking through the rows of the tables in the classroom you may remark that there are problems (you will feel that because of your pedagogical education…), so this is the moment to ask your students if they would like your help… In this moment don’t ONLY show the solution (your help…) to that part of students, but switch on the “beamer” and show it to ALL of the students, some may not have shown that they didn’t understood it…
When they have questions which you can’t answer at the moment, write those questions down somewhere where they can see it also and tell them that for the next course and/or they will get the answer(s) by email or on the collaborative platform of the school (university)… Nobody is perfect, you would be the first one 😉 Build also a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) database where every body could have access, so you will be prepared for the same answer by other students…
.
[GM]: The Quality of any done work is dependent on the Quality of the used “tools” and the ability to use them…
Doing it this way your learners will appreciate and respect you, because you are showing to them that you have competences, competences which you can share with them, don’t hide your personality behind your diploma and degree, show them who you are. Show them that you are competent to give them courses 😉
Keywords: competences, 21st cetury knowledge, coach, ability to give courses, respect, pedagogical background, ability to adapt on any situation…
[GM]: A teaching person knows the way on how to give his courses on his pedagogical approach, but not every time the possible tools which he can use to give quality courses, here below my selection, an non-exhaustive list, feel free to leave a comment in the comments section, please, when you know some more “quality-tools“…

A non-exhaustive list of online learning possibilities, such as LMS (Learning Management System) here below:
Personally I can recommend DOKEOS as I worked for two years with it and that it was for my needs the best one of the above mentioned… See below a screenshot of its structure…
.
Dokeos is an open source online learning suite. It provides all the features needed for e-learning and blended learning management : From Authoring to Reporting.
Update (09.03.2011): Dokeos 2.0 is the new release. It is thoroughly redesigned and adapted to the recent evolution of technologies and their uses: mindmapping integration in learning processes, scenario tools for training modules, management of social networks for a collaborative learning, touchscreen interface adapted for mobile media (smartphones, tablets, iPad …).
.
.
While working with LMS (Learning Management System) don’t forget the aspect of security, thus meaning: when new updates for those LMS are available (you get notified by email and/or over the platform itself) youneed to update immediately otherwise your learning platform could be vulnerable and you could infect your learners and visitors with malware. Chose a person who has the necessary skills to do it and that person will than be the administrator of the learning platform…
Other useful software is DYKNOW… watch web site for more information…

Translation Tools
.
.
There are several FREE translation tools available on Internet…
.
For Google Chrome: Google Chrome‘s built-in translation bar helps you read more of the web, regardless of the language of the web page. The bar is enabled by default and is available for 52 languages.

Working Together Online
.
As already mentioned it is also possible to work together on the same document(s) when using Google docs (internet connexion needed)…
.
.
Google docs, where it is possible to work as a team on the same document and where the team could be spread around the world because the document is accessible online…

Please have a look on the following links where you will find all the necessary information:
Here below a practical example of the use of a “Google docs spreadsheet” which you can embed into knol and also on any web site, blog, or…

This is a practical example and who uses also “short URL’s” provided by goo.gl, so that the rows of the spreadsheet could be small and therefore the spreadsheet is well designed to fit into the page.
Publishing In 21st Century…
Make learning interesting for your learners, offer them interactive reading by using FREE services such as CALAMEO.
Publishing content on an 21st century way and finding also good resources:
Creating MindMaps for better visualize your thinking and quickly arrange and organize your work, all to benefit you as well as people around you. My personal favorite software is EDRAW.
Below a screenshot from the software…
.
Here below an example from a MindMap which I created for a “Project Management” with young students, this is about 5 years (2006) old and was done with an older version of the software where there was not yet 3D enabled…
Using MindMaps makes it much more easy to visualize a project, by seeing the MindMap most people understand directly what the target is and also what the different tasks are…
Practical Tip: print out the MindMap and strikeout all done tasks, this makes it more easy to have an overview of still to do tasks and/or change the MindMap on your computer with strikeout (strikeout) and foreseen date and print it out again…
Have a look here to find out what is possible to create and what are the examples…
Google for Educators is a web site that support teachers in their efforts to empower students and expand the frontiers of human knowledge. Google for Educator offer free online Google products like Google Search, Docs, Blogger, Calendar, Group, Earth, SketchUp, Maps, and more. For example Google Docs allows teachers and students to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations for free, so having to install Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint on every classroom computer is no longer an issue.
Gantt Charts are also a very important tool when making and planning a project.A Gantt chart lets you see immediately what should have been achieved at any point in time.
Using online “self created” so called “WordSearch” utilities where learners need to find predefined words (chosen by the teachers, look left-hand side of the screenshot) and where the learners need to find them and marking them interactively with the mouse…

Sorry for the quality of this video, it is my first one on YouTube, done with Jing (Pro account, costs me 15 €), so I need to learn as well… I bring in this “bad example” to show you that you don’t have to fear to make the first step to learn yourself… Nobody is perfect 😉 My next step will be to create a new one, a better quality one and I will leave the two videos online so that you could see the difference, and who knows, maybe I will create a tutorial knol to share my expertise and knowledge on about how to make it 😉

Concerning Microsoft for Education, there are still a lot of people who don’t know that Microsoft has special licences (low cost) for Education, did you know that?
An easy way to create the QR-Code is the FREE service from Google www.goo.gl where you can create “short-URL’s” and who creates also on the fly your QR-code for the shortened URL.
Mobile barcodes, storing addresses and URLs, are a new and innovative way to access the mobile internet where users can use the camera on their mobile phone to scan barcodes that may appear in magazines, newspapers, billboards, LCD/plasma screens, packaging, business card and even t-shirts. A user having a mobile camera phone equipped with the correct reader software can scan the image of the 2D barcode causing the phone browser to launch and direct to the programmed URL. Codes can be used to provide fast-track access to mobile websites, special discount offers, send an SMS, and receive a ring-tone, save contact details on mobile address book.
By the mass of information of the Internet it is becoming very difficult to stay organized to find back all the stored data and links, here below author’s choice for a perfect organization:
Teaching-people could (should) also be interested in new ways of education and follow also some interesting news, such as (critical thinking…):

Facing Problems Because Of Bad Use Of Internet???
Teaching people and parents are actually also facing the Cyberbullying problem, as also private persons, this is becoming a trend in the 21st Century, the information society… Most of people think that Internet is a lawless zone and a certain anarchy is raising. But Internet, the “virtual world” is regulated by laws who are differing from one country to the other one. But there are existing laws and Cyberbullyingis not allowed, an education in schools about Cyberbullying is absolutely necessary…

What Can Education Do For A Better World???
Education, if well managed can do a lot for a better world. The teaching system (worldwide) should teaching more about sensibleness of nature and social conflicts, not only the basics what is already on the teaching schedule, more teaching of sensibleness how humans are destroying our planet, trying to make learners sensible to the planet problems…
.
.
What is Education already doing for a better world??? There is a worldwide Student Exchange Program for cultural understanding existing as well as a special Concept of knowledge sharing from the European Commission, called “COMENIUS“, please watch here “Comenius“. Other possibilities from the European Commission could get found here “Education & Training“.
Education should be FREE for everybody worldwide, there is already something happening, not known by most of the people, have a look here please “Khan Academy“. Khan (The Founder) intends nothing less than “tens of thousands” of tutorials offering the “first free, world-class virtual school where anyone can learn anything.” Have a look on here as well, please: Bill Gates’ favorite teacher.
Try out the Quiz from this superb web site about Education, from EDUTOPIA.
Try it out and let your learners do the Quizz, so you know what kind of Learning Style they have, this will be a very good guide for you…
Creating Your Own Web Page…
In lots of countries the Ministry of Education provides the schools and universities with the facility for creating their websites by offering them also the hosting space. But this is not possible in any country and states, so those who would create a web page for their school must do it themselves. Here below a non-exhaustive list of FREE web templates who could get used for FREE:
By introducing the learners to the same tools which the teaching-person uses they will feelmotivated as the teaching person shares his secrets with them and they will learn what are the best tools and also how to use them and this done as a Team-Work will be best for the education process…
Tip: this applies to any age… teaching persons needs only to tell them that he (she) shares his secrets with them to create (produce) good and excellent stuff 😉 Motivate your learners, make them feel equal (win-win situation) with the teaching person and you will see the progress…
.
All those presented “tools” should not only be used alone by the teaching-person, but also shown to the learners and trying together with them to realize different projects with those “tools”…
Tell me and I will forget, Show me and I will remember, let me try and I will understand. (Confucius)
“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.”(Seneca the Younger)
Don’t Forget The Copyright Laws…
.
.
When working together with your students and when they are publishing content (even yourself…), please take care about the copyright, you are not allowed to copy&paste content from Internet and text from books from other persons without their knowledge and their permission…
.
.
.
.
When writing a book, creating a presentation for your students and when teaching your students and asking them to make researches (on Internet and on books) you are not allowed to copy and paste from other web sites, nor copy from an existing book, be conscious and responsible about that, please… Respect other authors property… Here below an non exhaustive list of laws in different countries…
So, with all that advice, How-To create my Quality Course now?
.
When publishing this “old knol” who is now a blog on WordPress I had already the idea in my brain to publish about “How-To make best preparation for a Quality Course” but I wasn’t keen enough; but now 3 years later I acquired enough knowledge to do so. Please check my new blog here:
I met personaly Bruno HOURST, Robert GOBERT and Wim VEEN and I am working since eight years (2010), giving courses about ICT (mostly for adults and seniors, but also for young people) based on Howard GARDNER’s and Daniel GOLEMAN’s knowledge…A win-win situation between course instructor (coach) and learners which brings out a maximum to the learner, the most important…
A multicultural effort on showing how the world could become better. This blog is an example of multi-cultural author collaboration. This world that we live in is divided into different continents and countries. We still can make it as a better world, by finding areas of common interest among ourselves as humans, as well as sharing our knowledge about what could be done for a better world.
Actually (06 November 2010) we are present authors of Egypt, Luxembourg, Australia, United States, Switzerland, India and Italy, awaiting soon more countries to join in.
The authors are not “dreamers”, they have a “realistic thinking” background, they know that this world can not be changed in a short time, but they want to share their ideas and Tips to make it move forward…
This article was a knol created on November 02, 2010 and was migrated to WP on December 29, 2011.

[GM]: Good manners, such as greeting somebody (Hello, Hi…) also and especially on Internet (on Internet it is disappearing almost), saying “Thank you” to somebody and “please” are “keywords” for showing “Respect” to each other.
In my country (Luxembourg) we even say that those words are the “keys” that open all the doors…
Different authors with different cultures are trying to meet and share their knowledge on a Blog tobreak out the distances among themselves. Most of the authors present here have an educational and/or medical knowledge background and are using this knowledge to give you, dear readers, aguideline, an impulse for thinking on ithow it could be, when wished so…
In this blog we will try to give as much as possible guidelines about what we authors present here think what could be done for a better world and also we will show on this knol how it could possible be realized by using ICT and Education as possibilities…
We are not “dreamers“, we have a “realistic thinking” background, we know that this world can not be changed in a Century Time, but we want to share our ideas and Tips to make it move forward…
If you, dear reader and/or knol author, have the same mentality, please let us know it by a comment.
Thanks to do so, you will be welcome 😉

When I do something for other people, I feel good, “says Peterson“. When you do something voluntarily for others, not only for its own interests, it is rewarded. In some mysterious way, serve as an “altruistic” (the opposite of selfishness) gives his own life more important. It seems that nature have put it in our genes, or that people are happy when they have the spirit of sharing, community spirit.
So, dear readers, make yourself feeling good and share this knol (unit of knowledge) with other people, thanks in advance 😉

Introduction
We are living in exceptional times.Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth’s climate.
There are multiple ways existing already to make this World better, to let you know what could be done authors of this knol have created different sections to show you what exactly is existing, such as:
.
Alternative Energies for a better world
New Architecture Technologies for a better world
Science for a better world
Traditional medecine for a better world
Sharing our knowledge for a better world
Multicultural Events
New Knowledge in Psychology, the positive thinking
Education for a better world
Generation Exchange for a better world
Helping The Poor to take part of the already present knowledge
Financing with MicroCredits to give opportunity to learn
.
.
PS: Give your brain a kick and start thinking on how yourself can contribute to a better world, the solutions are described here in this blog 😉
Some wise words:
With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world. Dalai Lama
By developing a sense of concern for others’ well-being, then no matter what others’ attitudes are, you can keep inner peace. Dalai Lama
What Is Multicultural???
.
.
What is multicultural??? It is like a rainbow, lots of different colors and most lots of different mentalities, different ways to see the same things…
This blog tries to show the common things for everybody with different mentalities but with the same goal “For A Better World” and I am sure we will be able to find a common point of interest and also a common point of on how to change things 😉
The World, Our Home, Let Us Preserve It…
.
This video is a must to watch it: We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth’s climate.
The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.
For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film.
—> HOME has been made for you : share it! And act for the planet. <—
Yann Arthus-Bertrand
For Education: This is the BEST video ever made to explain what our World is, it takes 1h33 minutes, so prepare your courses in advance considering the time of the video… But it is worth to show your students this video and later on the other videos who are shown in the section below. After watching these videos, try to make a “Question and Answer” session together with your students and learners, a need…
Me profiting from when I help other people, it is me who gives something and not the other person???” Such may be your thinking, but…There are new ways in Psychology who are describing this very well such as:
Barbara FREDRICKSON: Her main work is related to her broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, which suggests that positive emotions lead to novel, expansive, or exploratory behavior, and that, over time, these actions lead to meaningful, long-term resources such as knowledge and social relation ships.
.
When I do something for other people, I feel good, “says Peterson“. When you do something voluntarily for others, not only for its own interests, it is rewarded. In some mysterious way, serve as an “altruistic” (the opposite of selfishness) gives his own life more important. It seems that nature have put it in our genes, or that people are happy when they have the spirit of sharing, community spirit.
.
.
When I am happy and talking to other persons so my positive karma is going over to other persons as well and they will learn also to become happy (without taking drugs) and happy persons are more open minded and constructive thinking as well. Constructive thinking means also doing and/or creating something new related to new acquired knowledge and sharing this new acquired knowledge again makes things move forward, a positive step who will get amplified by other people following that same good mentality…
By sharing our knowledge, like we authors do here, people will know what happens with the world, what could be done to help for a better world and also how people can come together by respecting each other. The Sharing Of Knowledge over the Internet has the Power of 24/24 hours availability and the information could get read where ever, Internet connexion provided…
Krishan Maggon: Before World War II, medicine was mostly traditional all over the world except few drugs like aspirin, insulin and few vaccines. Advanced in medicine and science and imaging have contributed to the resurgence of modern medicine in most of the Western and developed world.
.
.
Lack of health care insurance in developing and poor countries and the high cost of modern medicine has made it out of reach for over 70% of global population. Thus over 5 billion persons in our world rely mainly on the traditional system of medicines like the Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, Shaman, Persian, Arab, African/Asian/local tribal medicine men, phytotherapy, homeopathy and a diverse variety of remedies, cures and treatments. These cures are often derived from nearby forests or local resources. The early practitioners of traditional medicine were saints, community leaders or learned scholars and were recognized as well wishers of the society. This tradition still continues in rural communities, where traditional medicine men are sought after for health care and general social problems of the family.
The main ethical issue in poor communities and populations today is how to deliver modern healthcare and make it accessible to all. It is a moral dilemma that even over 60 years after the foundation of WHO, the world is not able to educate all its children or provide an efficient health care to the poor sections of its population or eliminate misery and poverty.
The cost of traditional medicine is much lower, it is closer to the community, and patients get personal attention or the healing touch of the practitioner who speaks the same language. Traditional medicine until a few decades ago has never been practiced as a commercial service like modern medicine and patients pay according to their ability and financial status. The World Health Organization has recommended for the incorporation of the traditional systems of medicine for communities where it is accepted, into the primary health care system. Although traditional medicine did not learn from the rest of the world or incorporate modern ideas from science and medicine, there is no reason for modern medicine to ignore traditional systems of medicines. These systems must be reinterpreted in the light of our new knowledge and incorporated in modern medicine along with other forms of traditional medicine.
New anticancer drugs in development offer us the possibility of dramatic and complete cure for Metastatic melanoma.
The story of the 2 new wonder drugs Ipilimumab and BRAF inhibitor PLX 4032 have been extensively covered in the media.
New drugs acting on the nerve growth factors NGF offer us the real possibility of relief from chronic pain for 1-2 months with a single injection. In addition, these drugs are non addictive and free from liver, kidney and gastrointestinal adverse drug reactions of current analgesics.
The central role of beta amyloid protein in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease has highlighted its role in memory loss and cognitive functions. New drugs aimed at beta amyloid protein may slow, stop or even reverse degrading cognitive function and memory loss.
What is Education already doing for a better world??? There is a worldwide Student Exchange Programfor cultural understanding existing as well as a special Concept of knowledge sharing from the European Commission, called “COMENIUS“, please watch here “Comenius“. Other possibilities from the European Commission could get found here “Education & Training“.
Education should be FREE for everybody worldwide, there is already something happening, not known by most of the people, have a look here please “Khan Academy“. Khan (The Founder) intends nothing less than “tens of thousands” of tutorials offering the “first free, world-class virtual school where anyone can learn anything.” Have a look on here as well, please: Bill Gates’ favorite teacher
Youth is the future anyway, so Education to Youth with their own actions should be promoted, the European Commission is doing so as a lot of other worldwide known organizations such as:
Generation Exchange / Café des âges / Dialogue Café
.In collaboration with the Alliance of Civilizations, CISCO launched Dialogue Café at the Istanbul Forum. The project is based on a radical but simple idea: ordinary people have more in common than not and given the opportunity will explore their common interests even across radical geo-political divides.
Dialogue Café links diverse groups of citizens from around the world through third generation video-conferencing technology, thereby creating a new space for social innovation and exponentially expanding our ability to solve problems and innovate as a global community. Dialogue Café’s development is being supported by an international multi-sector consortium of partners, enabled by cutting-edge technology, and most importantly is driven by ordinary people.
The Café proof of concept will commmence with preparations for pilot cafes in New York, London, Istanbul and the Middle East.
In the French Speaking Community there are already similar activities running, those cafés are called “Café des âges“, places where young and older generation come together around a good drink and where they are discussing about a “daily chosen” theme.
One of those themes is as example (we published it already here): “Music, A Link Between Generations?“.
ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) has a wide impact for a better world as the whole knowledge of mankind (when present on Internet) could get used to share it (when Internet connexion provided, what is not the case in all countries). When we use the word “World“, we are talking about the “World in the 21th Century“, thus meaning that we have also to consider Internet being part of our world as both are interacting…
So as most of you know probably, Internet is like a trap when people are not aware about the dangers and the security. Security is a must on our days, we need to protect our computers and also we need some special tools to know if the web sites we are visiting are secure. One of those tools is WOT (World Of Trust)…
WOT, protect yourself from online scams, sites with adult content, spam and other Internet threats. The Wot community has rated millions of websites so you can search, shop online and surf for fun without worrying.
Un homme averti en vaut deux (FR) / Gefahr erkannt ist Gefahr gebannt (DE) / Forewarned is Forearmed (EN)
.
First of all, Internet must be present in any country of the world, as also a good broadband of Internet services, below you will see the last report from Cisco about “The World’s Broadband Leaders in 2010“, who gives you an overview on how “bad” certain countries still are, there is still a lot of work to do to give customers in certain countries the possibility to use Internet…
Our planet is in danger. The film below is about architecture that cares about nature, about people and about our future. 10 world famous architects share both their vision and solutions on sustainable building. It’s called also Green architects or sustainable architecture.

Alternative Energies For A Better World
Our planet is in danger. The films below are proposed solutions to use energy on alternative ways…
Fair Trade Labelling And Rainforest Alliance / Coffee
Why fore “Coffee” here as part of a better World??? “Coffee” stays here for “relaxing“, “tasting“, “taking part of social life” by drinking “Coffee” together with other people, which is also “harmony”. By buying also only Coffee from small companies “Fair Trade” and/or Rainforest Alliance you will help to survive small earning people and not only sponsoring the Big Concerns…
.
“Fair Trade“: “Tackling Poverty And Empowering Producers Through Trade“
.
FLO is a group of 24 organizations working to secure a better deal for producers. They own the FAIRTRADE Mark – the product label that certifies international Fairtrade standards have been met.
Rainforest Alliance: The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversityand ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.

In the modern world of ours even the authorities are chopping down the trees in the name of development. This knol pin points the great damage we are causing to the very existence of human beings by cutting down trees around the world.
Music As A Link For Multicultural And Generations Living Together
Music is a very good possibility for sharing feelings and for showing also the taste of different generations and nationalities. But it is not only the music, people forget much often to understand also the lyrics. So when listening to a music video why not searching to find the same with lyrics.
By understanding the meaning behind a song (Music and Lyrics), it is possible to feel how a generation and a culture is thinking. By organizing Multi Cultural Music Festivals in a country, this allows to bring together different cultures…

What are other countries listening for music??? The Charts of different countries… coming soon…
To understand better each others mentality it is good to know the news of each country and/or continent, here below some news around the world. These News are automatically actualized 24/24 hours… So, come back often to watch…
Icons used in this knol are Open Source (Freeware) and are part of “Open ClipArt” and the Flag Icons used above are from “Flag source: http://www.printableworldflags.com/“. If you like those flags and you would like to use them also, so once on that web site, click on “Icons”, you would have the choice from different sizes. My choice here was 24×24 pixels.
International Food, Eating and Hunger In The World…
International Food, why fore is this section in here, sounds strange to me??? Answer: by knowing what other people are eating and also their habits on how they are eating we could understand a bit more about their lifestyle and their mentality as well as their social status…
Eating is a must for every human isn’t it??? And by eating different dishes from different cultures we are knowing a bit more about other cultures isn’t it??? By creating exhibitions about international food we are creating places where multicultural people are meeting to know each other better, isn’t it so???
Aware of the issues represented by the Greater Region in the economic development of the catering sector, EXPOGAST is located in Luxembourg, the business heart of the region. When working together as a Team with multicultural authors it is good to know more about the countries and the mentality of those countries. Also what are the origines, the roots of the people living there as well as the roots of the spoken language(s) of those countries.
Gust MEES: For not overloading this blog, I will present only short “keywords” about my country and I will present you knols where already those information are provided.
.
.
.
The countries “Motto“:
‘Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin‘. It looks like German and Dutch, mixed together and means: ‘We want to stay what we are‘.
The roots of the people are Celtic and the spoken language is Luxembourgish, while the administrative languages are French and German. The newspapers are mostly written in at least three languages, Luxembourgish, French and German with sometimes also English…
Living myself in a country (Luxembourg) where there are living about 44% (2010) people from different nationalities, even that Foreigners could outnumber Lux nationals by 2020. It is the highest proportion of foreigners of any EU country, so I am used to it, living with different mentalities, but others probably not…
Luxembourg is situated in the heart of Europe and bordered by France, Belgium and Germany. In 2009 the abroad (frontier runners) working people in Luxembourg by per cent was 43% from the total working people in Luxembourg. From those 43% were 49,4% French people, 25,4% Belgium people and 25,1% from Germany. More information here in French: les frontaliers.lu

We will try here to explain what could happen when authors of different nationalities and mentalities are working together and/or meeting on comments-section… As I don’t have yet prepared an English text for it, please have meanwhile a look on my knol in French, below:

What Could Be Done For Sensibility About Planet Earth Problems???
Education can play a big role to sensibilize students about the problems of our planet by teaching learners and students about reality…
.
.
Online games such as explained in the videos side could also help a lot for that people realize the present danger…
Humor is internationally accepted and understood… With humor things who normally would never get accepted could get accepted by the way of laughing about each other (very important)!
Humor makes it much more easy to bring people on a “win-win” situation, thus meaning (as example): somebody tells a joke about the country of his “conversation partner” and the other one replies also with a joke about the other ones “conversation partner” country. So at least they have “fought” on a social and peaceful wise, which is normally accepted and when there are good (peaceful) characters this could even help to build up a friendship 😉
Authors Point Of View On How To Realize A Better World
Ibrahim H. Hussney: In the world of managing and developing businesses; you need always to be near from the facts and working with the reality, the necessary existence of these two principals in the mind are for the sake of the business itself and also help not to lose the thread of the correct ways needed for developing its management, The question which may jump to your mind now, are you able alone to see this reality?. And if so; for what extend you can?
For a Better World, you need to work within a team considering yourself like a part of a bigger system, nowadays you are not able to isolate yourself and working everything alone, performing what we called “One Man Show” became not feasible anymore, twenty eyes can see better than two, also twenty eyes can see much more details and touch much of the realities especially when we talk about those what are hidden away from the only two eyes.
Five tools you need to dominate in order to develop your talent of Seeing Reality Through Other’s Eyes, so you need to go through:
a-Establishing more relationships for widening and supporting your ideas.
b-Go for more conversations and brainstorming to determine the future shape.
c-Suspending your assumptions for a while and think systemically.
d-Balancing between advocacy and inquiry while implementing new policy.
e-Open your mind, heart and teach yourself the philosophy of keep moving to see new people and places.
More relationships mean more people to know, mean more ideas to discover, mean more opportunities to discipline your own ideas and mean finally to get the necessary support for these ideas.
More conversations and brainstorming to be involved with, mean to become more near to discover the better shape for the future you are looking for yourself and for your society; hence for the whole world.
Try to suspend your assumptions for a while which always pushing you, change your thinking style from linearity to non-linearity or in spite you are always logic in your thinking you need also some creativity to express. The best is to balance between both styles.
Never adhere yourself always to advocate your new policy; train yourself to inquire for more and more details, such behavior certainly will develop your ideas and support your advocacy at the end of the day, helping in implementing your new policy smoothly; also balancing between both issues is always required.
Open your mind, your heart; open all of your possible windows to learn and to know whatever is new and all whatever may help in achieving your goals; train yourself to adapt the philosophy of keep moving, that will help your talent of discovering things via visiting the new places and knowing new people and cultures.
.
If you succeed in accomplishing these few missions, finally you are the one who become able to establish your own better world and sharing with the better world of the others.
So, after having published that much in here in this blog, what is the most important???
Gust MEES: We are ALL humans, wherever we are living, whatever our social status is, whatever our education is, whatever our religion is, whatever our character is, whatever our opinion is, whatever our ethics are, whatever our ethnics are. Acting as a human means also sharing our knowledge to ALL the people (not necessary on a commercial way)…
.
.
.
Think on that and react on a “win-win” situation when talking (also comment on Internet) to other people, please.
Think “Constructive” and not “Destructive”.
TOGETHER we build a better world, if wished so…
Ever thought about this??? Animals don’t destroy what is under their feet, but what are human people doing??? Humans (we, us) are destroying everything what is under our feet, and even in the space already now also. Is this serious???
Tolerance
Be tolerant with other people, try to understand them…
Share your knowledge with other persons, use Social Media, it is FREE…
Try to contact your local radio stations and TV channels to propose reporting about Hunger in the world…
