Building a Variable Power Supply With Few Components

Variable Power Supply-work in progress

Click the image please to enlarge

In previous tutorial Maker-First Steps in Electronics, the basics WE got a bit the PracTICE of soldering and WE learned ALSO about schematics, resistors, LEDs, diodes and OHM’s Law. WE used ALSO a 9 Volt battery as a power supply for our projects; BUT batteries are expensive (3,99 €) and when playing around a lot on experimenting WE would use a lot of them. This will certainly be the case as on the beginning while tinkering around, my personal experience, as one is curios and tries out everything. Which is good by the way, but better is to build a variable power supply for few money and for small projects like WE are working on.

SO, let us have a look on the schematic about WHAT WE will create next. WE will discover some NEW components, such as a voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC), a variable resistor (potentiometer), capacitors, electrolytic capacitors… which WE will learn more about as well in this tutorial.

WE had already the experience with a stripboard, which we will continue (on the beginning) to build our variable power supply. It will be a very easy one with ONLY 10 components to solder on the stripboard. The tension will be adjustable  by a potentiometer (variable resistor) from 0-24 Volts and a maximum current of 1 Ampere. WE will ALSO provide it with a switch so that we can ALSO use it as a Volt-Meter to measure the tensions on our strip-board projects…

WE will ALSO learn to drill and to rasp as WE will enclose our project into an enclosure; well mechanics are part as well when one tinkers with electronics 😉

WE will solder measure points on the strip-board as well. so we can learn about measuring and to understand what is going on when AC gets through a rectifier bridge and becomes DC…

Schematics

Electronic Schematics – Need-To-Know

BEST explication I have found and WHICH I agree!!! Electronic schematics are like recipes for electronics. They tell you what ingredients to use and how to mix the ingredients. But instead of using text to explain the recipe, a drawing is used.

First tests without the transformer

I propose to make the first test(s) without the transformer; by using a 9 Volts battery! This to make sure that there isn’t any mistake on the wiring as a short-circuit could cause damage!! Check photo below please:

Safety FIRST as WE are working with 230 Volts!!

549px-iso_7010_w012-svgI will propose two different projects, one for NEWBIES and one for advanced users! NEWBIES will NOT solder the transformer on the stripboard, BUT will connect it to the stripboard by <===> Safety FIRST rules <===> and advanced users could solder it on the stripboard by respecting these Safety rules! WE will use ALSO heat-shrinking tubes to insulate ALL the components where 230 Volts is connected to assume that nobody could touch them to avoid electrical shock by touching!!!

Learn more about heat-shrinking tubes:

I am NOT the guy WHO follows any rules, BUT THESE ONE I follow myself ALSO as it is mandatory!! YOUR life and/or the life of OTHERS could be in danger if NOT followed!!! SO, take YOUR responsibility, please 😉 Well, enough blabla, let us have a look WHY:

Two different projects, one for NEWBIES and one for advanced users: thus meaning; NEWBIES will NOT solder the transformer on the stripboard, BUT fixing and connecting it apart! Advanced users will be able to solder the transformer on the stripboard by taking care of safety rules, check above image please for connected transformer on the stripboard and image below please for transformer connected with wires to the stripboard .

Building UP from the beginning a system for wiring

WE have two different possibilities for the wiring and connection of the components on the stripboard:

  1. Using really wiring with colored insulated wires
  2. Using ONLY the copper strips on the stripboard to make the connections
  3. OR using both as I did in above; one red colored wire was used to make a connection…

.

WHEN WE use the wiring with colored insulated wires, we need to have a system in it, let us define UP from the beginning which colors mean WHAT! I propose this:

  • Red for the “PLUS” of DC Power Supply
  • Blue for the “Minus” (Ground) of DC Power Supply
  • Green for the connections of AC
  • White or blank silver wire for bridges on the stripboard: connections from one component to the other…

Next steps to come

Well, first build the above and finish it! Later WE will bring in ALSO some test points (soldering them on the stripboard) for measuring the voltage on different points and we will solder as well on the stripboard some more components to protect out project against short circuits, an electronic fuse with ONLY five (5) components. WE, once finished the above mentioned will then go for mechanical works as the whole will get fit into an enclosure. There will be then a bit drilling, rasping and…

.

Some electronics projects made +/- 25-30 years ago, check video below please 😉 I stopped tinkering around for the peace of our conjugal life, well wife was right! I had to much hobbies; NOW I am retired and I have too much time, SO I started again…

Introduction

programmerman-animated[GM] Two authors WHO have collaborated already since looong (see below links, please) on Global-Collaboration and learning together about ICT and everything around it, Cyber Security, Privacy , Digital CitiZenship are trying to show YOU, dear readers, THE possibilities on THE How-To to integrate <===> Physical EDUcation <===> within ICT and Social Media to give YOU as parents and first THE students, learners THE possibility to GET out a MAXIMUM for their health and THEIR <===> Digital FootPrint <===> as well! YES, WE are discussing this ALSO as the students are creating blogs and can report about their experiences in sports, efforts made and they can control it through special software, even that there are ALSO <===> Wearables <===> on the market where the users need to have some knowledge about <===> Privacy and Cyber Security <===>, which WE will discuss later in another chapter of this blog post.

Both authors have STRONG knowledge about 21st Century TEACHing, Coaching and especially “Dan KIRSCH” has….

[DK] I have been teaching now for 9 years in a variety of content areas; such as Physical Education, ICT, and Technical Education. My heart has always been in Physical Education, but the experience I gained teaching ICT has lead me to wanting to integrate ICT within my Physical Education classes I currently teach. For instance, I have began to have my 5th grade students blog on their Chromebooks at the end of each week. The blog prompts consist of personal reflections on the HOWTO get better on certain physical education skills and become better teammates during game situations.

Technology: Fitness Tracker, Wearables, Apps…

[GM] Fitness Trackers: Trend or Tool!? Check the below article (2015) to find out more please:

Wearables, technical gadgets who connect with the internet, are getting more and more used and the customers are NOT aware of its risks and dangers, check below please.

Many consumers unaware that data doesn’t stay on their device

[START Text from “The downside of wearable fitness technology“]

But what most consumers don’t realize is a potential big downside to these smart devices: the potential loss of privacy. While the average consumer may think that the data collected lives on their device or in their app, it really lives on servers owned and maintained by the device providers. For this reason,Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has called these devices a “privacy nightmare.

[DK] A great method of incorporating ICT within Physical EDUcation is the use of QR Codes! A lot of Physical Education teachers use QR codes during perceptual motor/fitness centers as a method of having students investigate what exercise and/or activity they will be participating in that specific center. Why your health data isn’t as secure as it should be

nurse.

Your health status is perhaps the most intimate information anyone could know about you, so it should be your decision whether you share or keep your medical records private.

Unfortunately, hospitals, doctors’ offices and insurance companies frequently expose our health data through accidental loss, device theftemployee negligence, and data breaches perpetrated by hackers.

Even as the amount of health data rapidly increases, and data security laws become more punitive, medical ID theft continues to rise.

Problems Of Technology Integration In The PracTICE

Problems Of Technology Integration In The PracTICE

Evolution of Education: Wordle Logo.

Problems Of Technology Integration In The PracTICE

programmerman2In this short blog, WE will talk about the integration of the new technologies, called “ICT“, which are NOT anymore that NEW, BUT in certain Communes and in different Government entities lots of people don’t NOT yet understood the importance of IT! They STILL work with the same OLD “Mentality”, which I call “Middle Age Mentality” as it is, sorry ===> WAKE UP! <=== and get used to the 21st Century Mentality!

The progress can’t get stopped, ONLY delayed, BUT that’s NOT the solution and people who are trying to STOP and/or delay the progress should remember THEIR “Responsibility” against the society, remembering that THEY were elected  by THE society to give the people THE BEST of what is happening in the world, ALSO in the world of NEW TECHNOLOGIES!

.

SO… It is VERY important that the people who have a responsibility job to have the necessary knowledge of those 21st Century Tools and especially the skills on how to handle them! Apart from those skills there is ALSO a need to know how these new tools should get used together with humans, humans who are working on a daily base with them

.

Technology used in a BAD way has negative aspects for the health of the working staff, read the following blog to find out more:

.

When reading the above blog “Worst Technology Integration in the PracTICE“, you will understand a lot more and what the resulting health problems from such a situation will be for the working staff:

Evolution of Education: Wordle Logo.

Worst Technology Integration In The PracTICE

.

sharing-iconStrange title of a blog, isn’t it? Reality OR fiction? It is REALITY, sorry to say that, I lived it! SO… I decided to share it with YOU dear readers to make sure that YOU don’t have to face it YOURSELVES as it could be very dangerous for YOUR health and as it is NOT professional at all what happens on some places (Communes and Government)! This story shows what is: a lack of knowledge, ignorance, naivety, miser, NO BUDGET and the responsibility of some people! There is a deep need, a MUST for Quality-Control!

===> There is ALSO a MUST that persons who have a responsibility job to follow courses to have the knowledge about what is happening in the 21st Century while using the new technologies, called “ICT” (Information and Communication Technologies)! <===

.

===> NO “Communication” between the different services is lethal for an organization, remember the letter “C” in “ICT” which means “Communication“! <===

When Communes and Government are employing ONLY degrees or big diplomas who are dating more than ten (10) years ago then this is showing in practice where the competency is!!! And when they have ALSO staff members without the necessary 21st Century knowledge about ICT, then the situation comes out like described below…

This is certainly NOT a personal attack, BUT it needs to get said to go for BETTER and for QUALITY as well as for a healthy working environment!

When people with responsibility for the public act with a middle age mentality to integrate 21st Century technology then this comes out:

Scenario explication:

Imagine that YOU have a pool of eight (8) computers with Windows as OS (Operating System) for the public where:

  • Two (2) of them are NOT working (Out Of Order) since three months
  • Four of the PC’s run on Windows 7
  • Two (2) of the PC’s run on Windows XP (!!!)
  • Some of the PC’s run on Microsoft Office 2003 (!!!)
  • Some of the PC’s run on Microsoft Office 2007 (!!!)
  • Some of the PC’s run on Microsoft Office 2010
  • On ALL of the PC’s persons can’t run applications who need Flash, Adobe applications as the updates are NOT made for months!

.

Flash Vulnerability

.

  • None of the PC’s has updated browsers, they ALL fail the update tests ===> check below!
  • NONE of the PC’s has an unzip program installed, so impossible to unzip attachments from the mails to make them readable!!! Their are OpenSource versions (FREE), why are they NOT installed!?
  • The Network Printer doesn’t work anymore since 1 week and the employees need to use a USB to copy the documents. Once the documents copied to the USB they need to go to their own office (I will explain later below...) where there are three PC’s and ONLY one where it is possible to print out on a different printer (YES, there are two printers…) who is NOT integrated in the Network, to print out the document and to handle it out to the users! A lot of walking around for... 😦

.

SO… Let’s come now to the office PC’s:

  • There are three (3) PC’s
  • They run ALL on different Microsoft Office versions: Office 2003, Office 2007  and Office 2010 (!!!)
  • ONLY one (1) is able to print out (actually) on the printer who is NOT integrated in the Network!
  • It is ONLY possible to use OUTLOOK on one (1) of the PC’s, on others it doesn’t work!
  • On some of those three PC’s it isn’t possible to connect an USB on the front as the front interface is probably defect!!!

..

What needs to get said is that the employees can’t make any updates as they don’t have Administrator rights to do so!

.

What Does This Mean For The Working Staff!?

programmerman2

.

I just describe it in one phrase: THEY get nearly mad and that are UNACCEPTABLE WORKING CONDITIONS!!!

People who accept still to work on such places will face certainly one day serious health problems, body and brain!!!

.

.

In the practice this means that when someone is working on the office PC on an urgently needed document for the clientele needs to stop his work when somebody else needs to use the USB to print out a document, switching PC with other staff members! In the practice I needed on one day 6 hours to write ONLY one phrase on a Word document, because of such a confuse situation!!! Unbelievable BUT TRUTH!!!

.

Working under such conditions (there are still some other, which I don’t publish yet…) breaks down the energy of the staff and after three days working they are already out powered!!! The permanent switch from one “OS” installed to an other one (Windows XP and Windows 7), from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office 2010 and the technical problems which the staff has to deal with on a daily base, adding to serve a frustrated and aggressive clientele isn’t a healthy work atmosphere!

.

This is an HORROR SCENARIO on a daily base and this in the 21st Century 😦

.

It is to hope that one day the responsible people of such working (???) places will take their responsibility to change it to a ===> human way of working <===

.

How Could It Be Made Better?

.

thumbsupnathaneady01First of ALL, invite the responsible staff members (NOT ONLY one…) of that service and ask them in a meeting where the problems are! BE REALISTIC and professional and don’t tell them to provide themselves a list of what is going wrong! When having read the above YOU MUST agree that those people don’t have neither the time, nor the working opportunities, nor the motivation anymore (impossible…) as ===> THEY are already OVERLOADED!!! <===

.

Health problems, increase of sick-leave are the consequences… read following blog to find out more:

.

A good idea might be ALSO to employ one of those persons for quality control as they know about what is going wrong!

===> Employ also people with field experience and NOT ONLY with degrees (diplomas), WE are talking about practice and NOT theory!!! BETTER even, let the responsible people work themselves in those areas for at least two days to find out about… <===

.

Since today (June 11, 2013) in a meeting, THE DIRECTION got an official report with ALL the mentioned problems! Even while not working anymore for that service I will keep an eye on it…

Learn in one week how to get Best protection/Introduction

.

vdujwtjyx3uq-252anv-p2pnicubuculei01In previous blogs I have presented already the different security programs who help us to stay secure on Internet and not to infect others in the community because our computer is infected! The text below is just a reminder:

In the real world our car needs some maintenance and technical control to make sure that there is no danger to other participants in traffic (pedestrians and drivers…), so the same in the virtual world. Our computer is the “virtual car” who is driving on the “Data Highway” (Internet), it needs maintenance and especially care about IT-Security and safety

I will prepare seven (7) different blogs, one for each day of the week so you don’t need a lot of time to spend for installing the programs and to get used to them… These blogs will refer anyway to the already published blogs and/or would be a simple copy with practical advice and you can use them how you would like. One per day or if you have the necessary time, even more, up to you…

Protect your Smartphone and be aware of malicious QR-Codes

[Start Text from http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/10/qr_code_sticker_scam/Cybercrooks are putting up stickers featuring URLs embedded in Quick Response codes (QR codes) as a trick designed to drive traffic to dodgy sites. [End Text from http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/10/qr_code_sticker_scam/]

As it is impossible to see ONLY by viewing the QR-Code to detect if it redirects to an infected website, it is a MUST to install a QR-Reader who controls before sending you to the website! I recommend:

  • While using “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device), we ALL (Teachers, Educators and Learners) are responsible, not the IT-Admin alone!
  • While using “BYOD” we need a strong “BYOD-Policy” at least!
  • While using “BYOD” it is recommended to have also a “MDM” (Mobile Device Management)!
  • We learned that there is a need for “Mobile Device Management (MDM)” and “Mobile Application Management (MAM)”
  • It is recommended to organize a “Teacher-Parents-Meeting” to explain the parents that their kids are safe in your school, explaining them the efforts you make and asking them also to help their kids to respect the “BYOD-Policy”!
  • The weakest link in the Security Chain is the human! If you don’t respect certain advice you will get tricked by the Cyber-Criminals!

Protecting the organization’s network and its data from attack and misuse requires more than just a BYOD mentality; establishing secure, mobile-enabled operations requires a mobility access control program that includes corporate-provisioned, approved employee- and partner-owned devices as well as unmanaged guest devices.

We need to compare real world with virtual world to understand

.

vdujwtjyx3uq-252anv-p2pnicubuculei01When we talk about Hygiene in real life we mean taking our daily shower or bath, washing often enough the hands, brushing the teeth minimum twice a day and we must talk also about health; thus meaning: visiting the doctor regularly to avoid serious problems, especially up from a certain age… Hygiene means taking care of our body to have best health and also the responsibility not to infect other people because of bad hygiene and bad health! We need also to be informed about how to stay health by following hygiene tips provided by Education and also by the “Health Ministry”, where we find folders on different places and in 21st Century also now on Internet… We get also taught on practices which are dangerous… That’s the awareness about…

.

Computer Viruses and Threats

Click image above to access video

.

In real world our car needs some maintenance and technical control to make sure that there is no danger for other participants in traffic (pedestrians and drivers…), so the same in virtual world. Our computer is the “virtual car” who is driving on the “Data Highway” (Internet), it needs maintenance and especially care about IT-Security and safety

So, when working with a computer and “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device), where “BYOD” is not only computers but also tablets and smartphones, we need to take care of them, whatever “Operating System” (OS) is installed! Otherwise if these devices don’t have the right maintenance and the right “Hygiene” they could infect other Internet users; whereby “Cyber-Hygiene” means here:

We need to build up a Cyber-Hygiene Culture/How-To

.

community-jpegWe need to build up a Cyber-Hygiene Culture for a more secure Internet and in this culture we are ALL involved as Internet is a global Network and we could help a lot by using the “Social Medias” to this by sharing our good practices with others…

.

.

Learn more about “Social Media and its Influence” here: .

.
This Cyber-Culture-Hygiene could get build up by the already mentioned propositions in this blog and also from IT-Security Experts and people with very good knowledge about IT-Security on an volunteer-base as I did and still will doing as described in my following blog:
.
.

Why should we do this?

.

The Internet will attract more hackers

Infographics source

The above Infographic is only an estimation, but I agree with it that Cyber-Crime will become more important as already NOW TV’s with mini-computer have vulnerabilities http://www.scoop.it/t/securite-pc-et-internet?tag=TV, the rest you could imagine yourself! You should think also on the raise of “Bring Your Own Device” (Hashtag = #BYOD), so there are more and more people using their own devices on work, devices who could represent a danger and risks for the Network the are connecting to if not well secured; switch on your Critical-Thinking please! We need a Proactive-Thinking!

See the facts in reports of 2012 by professional companies here: .

Don’t forget that a security by 100% doesn’t exist and that in the future any fridge, TV, and other technical domestic device will include a mini-computer who can connect to Internet! And any mini-computer is vulnerable… By knowing NOW the facts we see the reality, we are well informed NOW and our Critical Thinking should make us understand that Cyber-Hygiene is a MUST!

We need new ideas how this Cyber-Hygiene-Culture could get build up

.

Mausi-interrogatifSome say that it is very difficult to build up a Cyber-Hygiene-Culture and they are right with it because persons need first to understand the “invisible threats” and “attacks” which are present! I invite you to read my “curation” about it here:

.

.
By having read these articles you will be able to understand the risks by using your critical thinking and you will be able to understand also why it is necessary to teach and to use a “Cyber-Hygiene” and also to share your new acquired knowledge with others…

.

Concerning new ideas, I share already since 2003-2004 a lot of ideas on How-To a “Cyber-Hygiene” could get used, please check here:

.

.

Is this “Cyber-Hygiene” advice only a help for Education?

.

Mausi-loupeAs already mentioned above and in the title of this blog, not ONLY for Education, but also for business and of course more then ever NOW also for the whole population as the majority of people around the world are using Internet and that in the future there will be more people using Internet and this certainly more with smartphones than with computers!!!

.

.

.

.

.

Any device connected to Internet needs to get protected, so also smartphones! Check also some FREE Apps here:

.

.

How could Cyber-Hygiene get introduced to Business?

.

community-jpegI suggest that the IT-Admin  of each company organizes meetings with the companies staff where he and the managers explain to the staff the dangers of “BYOD” and “BYOT” and that the technical staff elaborates also a strong “User-Policy” whereby any employee needs to check his device on the end of the week for updates and security updates! This event will take only between 15 min-30 minutes and should be a MUST! IT-Admin could block access to devices who are not conform to those mentioned Policy! Employees will so not only get used to IT-Security and Awareness on work, but will know so also the reflexes for at home in private life and by knowing these reflexes they will certainly also tell their children at home as well and probably also their acquaintances

What say the professionals?

..

.

An article from Forbes (7/14/2012) that you must read: “The threat is serious, and the time to prepare for it is now. The increasingly sophisticated  tools to change the world are in everyone’s hands as new technologies are introduced, but they are in the hands of criminals. It’s the wild west in this new technological frontier and we will see who outsmarts whom.

.

Goodman’s big idea is to have ordinary citizens around the world leverage these very same technologies for good, and to play a more prominent role in maintaining the safety and security of themselves and other citizens.

Get smart with 5 minutes tutorials/IT-Security/Part 2: check your computer

Get smart with 5 minutes tutorials/IT-Security/Part 2: check your computer

Hi,

I start a new series of blogs with educational vocation who will be easy to follow as they take only +/- 5 minutes and by following them and by applying my advice you will become a champion in IT-Security 😉

.Learning IT-Security

.

Let’s go for part 2: check your computer

.

A bit of theory. If you don’t like, switch to first screenshot shown below to start straight of for practice. But it might be good (important) to know that theory, take your time, please 😉

.

The browser, such as: Internet Explorer [IE], Mozilla FirefoxGoogle ChromeSafari + … is the entrance portal for malware. You use your browser to navigate Internet and if your browser and add-ons are not updated they might lead you to a “drive-by-download“; thus meaning you infect your computer by only visiting a web site!!!

.

See Part1: browsers https://gustmees.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/get-smart-with-5-minutes-tutorialsit-securitypart-1-browsers/

.

Very important and what most of people don’t know and don’t realize: Any installed software on your computer must be updated as older versions might have a vulnerability who could get exploited by the bad guys to take control over your computer!

.

===> No “Firewall” and no “Antivirus” will protect you against that! <===

.

.

Find where the vulnerabilities are by using a FREE online service from one of the best antivirus manufacturers, from F-Secure.

.

Here we go:

Run F-Secure HealthCheck http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_global/protection/free-online-tools/free-online-tools

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

1st check the box “language” and display it in your language, then check the box “I have read and accepted the license terms“, which you should also read! Click now the button “Run Check“.

.

F-Secure Health Check

Above screen will show up, showing you the work in progress…

.

Once loaded you will see this screen

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

After a few minutes, depending of speed of your Internet connexion and number of installed software on your computer, the following screen as shown below will appear…

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

You will see after a while the following screen explaining you exactly what was discovered and also how to resolve the problems discovered…

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

Click the “Next>” button now…

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

The above screen will get displayed showing you if you are using a “Backup” or not. “Backup’s are necessary to prevent loss of your data! Result from the above scanned computer is that there is no “Backup” software installed and so no Backup was made! If that is the result for your scanned computer, so click “Next>” button for further checking, but remind to install a “Backup” software on your computer, in an other tutorial I will show you HowTo use the “Backup“…

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

The above screen will get displayed showing you if your installed software is “up-to-date“, on the scanned computer ALL are updated and the computer is save! If you will discover some problems, so follow the steps it will display to do! Click now the “Next>” button again.

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

So, now when problems were encountered you will see them displayed on above screen. Click the button “Solve…” and follow the instructions…

.

F-Secure Health Check

.

The last screen you will see is the above showed one, up to you if you will agree, otherwise click on the button “Skip” and your done. easy, isn’t it??? Stay secure and stay tuned for next 5 minutes tutorial, coming soon…

For a Better World

For a Better World

For A Better World

Multi-Cultural Blog

A multicultural effort on showing how the world could become better. This blog is an example of multi-cultural author collaboration. This world that we live in is divided into different continents and countries. We still can make it as a better world, by finding areas of common interest among ourselves as humans, as well as sharing our knowledge about what could be done for a better world.

Actually (06 November 2010) we are present authors of Egypt, Luxembourg, Australia, United States, Switzerland, India and Italy, awaiting soon more countries to join in.

The authors are not “dreamers”, they have a “realistic thinking” background, they know that this world can not be changed in a short time, but they want to share their ideas and Tips to make it move forward

This article was a knol created on November 02, 2010 and was migrated to WP on December 29, 2011.

Disclaimer

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-trafficlightgreendan01Authors are trying on their best to present content which is accepted in any culture, that is why it is a Multi-cultural Blog. If you, dear reader would find something which you think is hurting you, or this could happen, so please let us know and we will try to clarify it… We don’t want to harm anybody, but it could be possible that we publish(ed) something without knowing that it could be not well accepted by some cultures. We are humans and trying to present something useful, so please if you find it not acceptable, just let us know and we will take care of it.. Thank you very much and we hope you enjoy it.. 🙂

Welcome To Our Readers

.

.

[GM]: Good manners, such as greeting somebody (Hello, Hi…) also and especially on Internet (on Internet it is disappearing almost), saying “Thank you” to somebody and “please” are “keywords” for showing “Respect” to each other.

In my country (Luxembourg) we even say that those words are the “keys” that open all the doors…

Different authors with different cultures are trying to meet and share their knowledge on a Blog to break out the distances among themselves. Most of the authors present here have an educational and/or medical knowledge background and are using this knowledge to give you, dear readers, a guideline, an impulse for thinking on it how it could be, when wished so

In this blog we will try to give as much as possible guidelines about what we authors present here think what could be done for a better world and also we will show on this knol how it could possible be realized by using ICT and Education as possibilities…

We are not “dreamers“, we have a “realistic thinking” background, we know that this world can not be changed in a Century Time, but we want to share our ideas and Tips to make it move forward…

If you, dear reader and/or knol author, have the same mentality, please let us know it by a comment.

Thanks to do so, you will be welcome 😉

.
When I do something for other people, I feel good, “says Peterson“. When you do something voluntarily for others, not only for its own interests, it is rewarded. In some mysterious way, serve as an “altruistic” (the opposite of selfishness) gives his own life more important. It seems that nature have put it in our genes, or that people are happy when they have the spirit of sharing, community spirit.

So, dear readers, make yourself feeling good and share this knol (unit of knowledge) with other people, thanks in advance 😉

Introduction

1ibdy1vf6wghd-n05dgl-trafficlightgreendan01We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth’s climate.
There are multiple ways existing already to make this World better, to let you know what could be done authors of this knol have created different sections to show you what exactly is existing, such as:
.
  • Alternative Energies for a better world
  • New Architecture Technologies for a better world
  • Science for a better world
  • Traditional medecine for a better world
  • Sharing our knowledge for a better world
  • Multicultural Events
  • New Knowledge in Psychology, the positive thinking
  • Education for a better world
  • Generation Exchange for a better world
  • Helping The Poor to take part of the already present knowledge
  • Financing with MicroCredits to give opportunity to learn
.

.
PS: Give your brain a kick and start thinking on how yourself can contribute to a better world, the solutions are described here in this blog 😉

Some wise words:

With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world. Dalai Lama

By developing a sense of concern for others’ well-being, then no matter what others’ attitudes are, you can keep inner peace. Dalai Lama

What Is Multicultural???

.

.

What is multicultural??? It is like a rainbow, lots of different colors and most lots of different mentalities, different ways to see the same things…

This blog tries to show the common things for everybody with different mentalities but with the same goal “For A Better World” and I am sure we will be able to find a common point of interest and also a common point of on how to change things 😉

The World, Our Home, Let Us Preserve It…

.
This video is a must to watch it: We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth’s climate.

The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.

For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film.

—> HOME has been made for you : share it! And act for the planet. <—

Yann Arthus-Bertrand

For Education: This is the BEST video ever made to explain what our World is, it takes 1h33 minutes, so prepare your courses in advance considering the time of the video… But it is worth to show your students this video and later on the other videos  who are shown in the section below. After watching these videos, try to make a “Question and Answer” session together with your students and learners, a need…

Me profiting from when I help other people, it is me who gives something and not the other person???” Such may be your thinking, but…There are new ways in Psychology who are describing this very well such as:

.

.

.
When I do something for other people, I feel good, “says Peterson“. When you do something voluntarily for others, not only for its own interests, it is rewarded. In some mysterious way, serve as an “altruistic” (the opposite of selfishness) gives his own life more important. It seems that nature have put it in our genes, or that people are happy when they have the spirit of sharing, community spirit.
.

.

When I am happy and talking to other persons so my positive karma is going over to other persons as well and they will learn also to become happy (without taking drugs) and happy persons are more open minded and constructive thinking as well. Constructive thinking means also doing and/or creating something new related to new acquired knowledge and sharing this new acquired knowledge again makes things move forward, a positive step who will get amplified by other people following that same good mentality…

Traditional Medicine

Krishan MAGGON

Krishan MaggonBefore World War II, medicine was mostly traditional all over the world except few drugs like aspirin, insulin and few vaccines. Advanced in medicine and science and imaging have contributed to the resurgence of modern medicine in most of the Western and developed world.

.
.
womanchemistgeraldg.01Lack of health care insurance in developing and poor countries and the high cost of modern medicine has made it out of reach for over 70% of global population. Thus over 5 billion persons in our world rely mainly on the traditional system of medicines like the Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, Shaman, Persian, Arab, African/Asian/local tribal medicine men, phytotherapy, homeopathy and a diverse variety of remedies, cures and treatments. These cures are often derived from nearby forests or local resources. The early practitioners of traditional medicine were saints, community leaders or learned scholars and were recognized as well wishers of the society. This tradition still continues in rural communities, where traditional medicine men are sought after for health care and general social problems of the family.
The main ethical issue in poor communities and populations today is how to deliver modern healthcare and make it accessible to all. It is a moral dilemma that even over 60 years after the foundation of WHO, the world is not able to educate all its children or provide an efficient health care to the poor sections of its population or eliminate misery and poverty.

ayurveda
www.ibspro.net/tag/element

The cost of traditional medicine is much lower, it is closer to the community, and patients get personal attention or the healing touch of the practitioner who speaks the same language. Traditional medicine until a few decades ago has never been practiced as a commercial service like modern medicine and patients pay according to their ability and financial status. The World Health Organization has recommended for the incorporation of the traditional systems of medicine for communities where it is accepted, into the primary health care system. Although traditional medicine did not learn from the rest of the world or incorporate modern ideas from science and medicine, there is no reason for modern medicine to ignore traditional systems of medicines. These systems must be reinterpreted in the light of our new knowledge and incorporated in modern medicine along with other forms of traditional medicine.

Teacher iconEducation, if well managed can do a lot for a better world. Other possibilities from the European Commission could get found here “Education & Training“.

Generation Exchange / Café des âges / Dialogue Café

sharing icon

.In collaboration with the Alliance of CivilizationsCISCO launched Dialogue Café at the Istanbul Forum. The project is based on a radical but simple idea: ordinary people have more in common than not and given the opportunity will explore their common interests even across radical geo-political divides.

Dialogue Café links diverse groups of citizens from around the world through third generation video-conferencing technology, thereby creating a new space for social innovation and exponentially expanding our ability to solve problems and innovate as a global community. Dialogue Café’s development is being supported by an international multi-sector consortium of partners, enabled by cutting-edge technology, and most importantly is driven by ordinary people.

The Café proof of concept will commmence with preparations for pilot cafes in New York, London, Istanbul and the Middle East.

In the French Speaking Community there are already similar activities running, those cafés are called “Café des âges“, places where young and older generation come together around a good drink and where they are discussing about a “daily chosen” theme.
One of those themes is as example (we published it already here): “Music, A Link Between Generations?“.

What Can ICT Do For A Better World???

computer-ajajashton01ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) has a wide impact for a better world as the whole knowledge of mankind (when present on Internet) could get used to share it (when Internet connexion provided, what is not the case in all countries). When we use the word “World“, we are talking about the “World in the 21th Century“, thus meaning that we have also to consider Internet being part of our world as both are interacting…

So as most of you know probably, Internet is like a trap when people are not aware about the dangers and the security. Security is a must on our days, we need to protect our computers and also we need some special tools to know if the web sites we are visiting are secure. One of those tools is WOT (World Of Trust)…

International Food, Eating and Hunger In The World…

chefjarnovasamaaInternational Food, why fore is this section in here, sounds strange to me??? Answer: by knowing what other people are eating and also their habits on how they are eating we could understand a bit more about their lifestyle and their mentality as well as their social status…

Eating is a must for every human isn’t it??? And by eating different dishes from different cultures we are knowing a bit more about other cultures isn’t it??? By creating exhibitions about international food we are creating places where multicultural people are meeting to know each other better, isn’t it so???

Aware of the issues represented by the Greater Region in the economic development of the catering sector, EXPOGAST is located in Luxembourg, the business heart of the region. The opportunities offered by the international dimension of Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Germany are enhanced by the specific features of Luxembourg where 44.66% (1) of residents are foreign, expecting the highest added value to be offered, but demonstrating the particularly high level of loyalty among traditional Luxembourg visitors.

The social criteria of current and potential visitors to EXPOGAST: the international community, multiculturalism, multilingual skills and a high purchasing power are some of the factors favouring the economic development of gastronomy, culturally embedded in custom and usage.

luxembourgLuxembourg is one of the smallest countries of the world with 502,000 inhabitants only (2009), but also one of the richest countries in the world relating to “List of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita“.

The roots of the people are Celtic and the spoken language is Luxembourgish, while the administrative languages are French and German. The newspapers are mostly written in at least three languages, Luxembourgish, French and German with sometimes also English…

Living myself in a country (Luxembourg) where there are living about 44% (2010) people from different nationalities, even that Foreigners could outnumber Lux nationals by 2020. It is the highest proportion of foreigners of any EU country, so I am used to it, living with different mentalities, but others probably not…

Luxembourg is situated in the heart of Europe and bordered by France, Belgium and Germany. In 2009 the abroad (frontier runners) working people in Luxembourg by per cent was 43% from the total working people in Luxembourg. From those 43% were 49,4% French people, 25,4% Belgium people and 25,1% from Germany. More information here in French: les frontaliers.lu

Some Humor 😉

chaticon01

Humor is internationally accepted and understood… With humor things who normally would never get accepted could get accepted by the way of laughing about each other (very important)!

Humor makes it much more easy to bring people on a “win-win” situation, thus meaning (as example): somebody tells a joke about the country of his “conversation partner” and the other one replies also with a joke about the other ones “conversation partner” country. So at least they have “fought” on a social and peaceful wise, which is normally accepted and when there are good (peaceful)  characters this could even help to build up a friendship 😉

Authors Point Of View On How To Realize A Better World

 Ibrahim H. Hussney

Ibrahim H. HussneyIn the world of managing and developing businesses; you need always to be near from the facts and working with the reality, the necessary existence of these two principals in the mind are for the sake of the business itself and also help not to lose the thread of the correct ways needed for developing its management, The question which may jump to your mind now, are you able alone to see this reality?. And if so; for what extend you can?

For a Better World, you need to work within a team considering yourself like a part of a bigger system, nowadays you are not able to isolate yourself and working everything alone, performing what we called “One Man Show” became not feasible anymore, twenty eyes can see better than two, also twenty eyes can see much more details and touch much of the realities especially when we talk about those what are hidden away from the only two eyes.
sharing icon
Five tools you need to dominate in order to develop your talent of Seeing Reality Through Other’s Eyes, so you need to go through:

a-Establishing more relationships for widening and supporting your ideas.

b-Go for more conversations and brainstorming to determine the future shape.
c-Suspending your assumptions for a while and think systemically.
d-Balancing between advocacy and inquiry while implementing new policy.
e-Open your mind, heart and teach yourself the philosophy of keep moving to see new people and places.
  • More relationships mean more people to know, mean more ideas to discover, mean more opportunities to discipline your own ideas and mean finally to get the necessary support for these ideas.
  • More conversations and brainstorming to be involved with, mean to become more near to discover the better shape for the future you are looking for yourself and for your society; hence for the whole world.
  • Try to suspend your assumptions for a while which always pushing you, change your thinking style from linearity to non-linearity or in spite you are always logic in your thinking you need also some creativity to express. The best is to balance between both styles.
  • Never adhere yourself always to advocate your new policy; train yourself to inquire for more and more details, such behavior certainly will develop your ideas and support your advocacy at the end of the day, helping in implementing your new policy smoothly; also balancing between both issues is always required.
  • Open your mind, your heart; open all of your possible windows to learn and to know whatever is new and all whatever may help in achieving your goals; train yourself to adapt the philosophy of keep moving, that will help your talent of discovering things via visiting the new places and knowing new people and cultures.

Summary

aigainformation1
So, after having published that much in here in this blog, what is the most important???

Gust MEES
Gust MEES: We are ALL humans, wherever we are living, whatever our social status is, whatever our education is, whatever our religion is, whatever our character is, whatever our opinion is, whatever our ethics are, whatever our ethnics are. Acting as a human means also sharing our knowledge to ALL the people (not necessary on a commercial way)…

.
.
.

Think on that and react on a “win-win” situation when talking (also comment on Internet) to other people, please.
Think “Constructive” and not “Destructive”.
