Critical Thinking AND Proactive Thinking a MUST in Modern-EDU! WHY!?
Looks to me as WE will live THE same as in 50’s-60’s with “James DEAN“, Living on the edge Youth & Society“, overload of information!? Change? At that time period it was TV, NOW it’s the internet, similarities? Well, I think so!! A NEW media showed up, the internet, and with the internet ALSO Social-Media. MOST of people are just consumers and DON’T see the dangers NOR do THEY accept THEM!! It’s a Virtual-World which THEY can’t imagine about HOW it will have an impact on Real-World!! BOTH, the Virtual-World and the Real-World are influencing each other!

WE are facing actually (2017) “Fake News“, MOST coming and being sponsored by politics interests!!! Just follow “Donald TRUMP’s election campaign and his actually acting…” and YOU will understand WHAT is going on! I encourage YOU to go for “Deep-THINKing” about WHAT is happening in Virtual-World THAT will influence the Real-World!!!
Knowing THIS, you certainly agree with me that there is a MUST to learn about “Critical THINKing, but HOW!?? Please read my curation articles below:
Radical Pedagogy: Education has the power to change social inequality by nurturing a generation with an educated mistrust of everything that has been indoctrinated before. This educational stance is one that we must all strive for as the moral purpose of education.
Proactive-Thinking SHOULD be burned in into EVERY Educators, Teachers MIND! WHY!??? The MOST IMPORTANT for any education related persons should be THEIR students, learners and the how to to prepare THEM for THEIR future!!
THIS Proactive-Thinking results in getting informed about WHAT is the need from the workforce, industry etc. to make sure that the future workers, employees… will be able to help the country to stay competitive with well educated persons! Especially for NEW jobs who will be created because of ICT, where nearly no one knows WHAT those jobs could be!!
Therefore it is very important that Educators, Teachers focus THEIR Professional Development first on the skills that students, learners need to have!
AND as WE are working with ICT, it is MANDATORY that WE will have knowledge about Cyber Security to protect at its BEST OUR students, learners and THAT WE forward OUR knowledge to THEM!
Proactive-Thinking is ALSO a MUST in Makerspaces and MakerEd
To ensure the safety of OUR students, learners, WE MUST be informed about Safety-Rules when working with different tools and the possible dangers of those tools!!

Social Media Twitter: WHAT Is Its Attraction And WHY Is IT Important For EDUcation!?
First of all, one can’t ignore existing trends which are already existing in Virtual World since ages and one SHOULD adapt for it in Real World, especially in Modern EDUcation! Social Media plays already a BIG role in business, so students, learners need to get taught about twitter and its importance for THEIR future jobs!
WHY teaching something where one has ONLY 140 characters to express themselves!? When I first heard about twitter that’s THE question I was posing myself as well!! But after one year observing and analyzing tweets I changed my mind and I became very active on twitter!!! Make the question DIFFERENT: Just think different, WHAT is the positive side about how to be able to express something with a very short (140 characters) characters!? WHAT is ALSO the value to use Social Media!?
Make an experiment first: try to express yourselves about a topic in a normal writing way; analyze that and try NOW to express THE same in 140 characters! YOUR grey cells are working a lot, isn’t it!? AND THAT is GOOD, YOU will find another way to express YOURSELVES in shorter wordsand sentences; YOU will be able to synthesize!!

Less talk, talk, talk and more RELEVANT information will be THE result!!! Sounds like QUALITY, isn’t it 😉
On the beginning, YOU will struggle a bit which is quite normal (I did ALSO…), but later YOU will find (after some training…) it interesting and even like it as a challenge… And BTW, if YOU can’t express it with ONLY one tweet (post on twitter), there is another possibility; check my blog post, please <===> Updated Twitter Knowledge
AND twitter is part of Social Media as well, like it says it already it’s social; YOU will meet OTHER people online with same interests (mostly, if well chosen followers…), different point of views (will give YOU some new ideas…) and YOU could build up a “Personal [Professional] Learning Network“, called a “PLN“. Through THIS PLN will find NEW opportunities for LEARNing as anyone learns from anybody, it’s an exchange of knowledge.

Sustainability: EVERY kid (nearly) has a smartphone, right!? Smartphones can take ALSO photos (NOT ONLY selfies… use them on intelligent way), so WHY NOT using them to teach the kids about the nature? To make them curious about WHAT is around them when they walk outside the house! Make it like an adventure, show them, guide them, show them ALSO WHERE to find plants, flowers by uploading an image on Google to find out WHAT it is; this is possible, click below please:

My participation for the SID2017
WHAT is special this year with my participation on SID2017?
I created a ===> #GlobalCollaboration#blog <=== from @knolinfos (my pseudo on twitter) & @ICTPHMS& @kimmindy7 for #LEARNing about #DigitalCitizenShip. The authors are from Luxembourg/Europe (me), one female teacher from the USA and a male teacher from the USA WHO are using my blog post to learn together and sharing THEIR practice with YOU dear readers.
Well, there is a lot of different views about ===> Digital CitizenShip <=== WE will explore WHAT could be THE BEST way to teach and to learn about Digital CitizenShip (hashtag on Twitter is #digcit).
How does it come that I post Global-Collaboration blog posts? Well, once the #ProfessionalDevelopment is Upto-Date, one does understand THAT learning in a team brings out a win-win situation and that a generation exchange is benefit for all of the participants as anyone learns from each other. In last blog post (tutorial) WE were practicing OUR soldering by creating “JOHNNY the ski-man“, a bit “Electronics-Art” using electronics components. In the video below, which I created with the FREEWARE <===> Windows Movie Maker <===> WE see ALSO “The Mini BUG Robot” who gives “JOHNNY” a ride. It is very easy to build that mini robot as there are ONLY six (6) components to solder.

The schematics
Let us first have a look on the schematics where WE will discover some NEW stuff, a mini motor; in this case it is an “vibration motor” which is used in smartphones. THEY exist as round, rectangular and in disk format, please check <===>Vibration Motor Images<===> in Google searches (images).

As you can see there is NOTHING special; we just put four (4) elements (2 LEDS, a vibration motor and a tantalum capacitor) in parallel. And we have a switch to switch on/off our circuit. As battery we use a “CR2032“.

Concerning the legs of the “Mini BUG Robot”: Cut 2 pieces of 9 mm off from silver wire and bend them both sides at +/- 3,5 cm, see PIC please, and solder them onto the stripboard.

Modern-EDUcation: FIRST try to understand WHAT it is before taking the wrong path!
Let us be honest: EDUcation is far behind of WHAT it should be able to face the challenges of a modern world which is evolving quicker than WE can follow! Because of ICT everything is nearly possible: NEW professions are emerging through NEW ideas; Entrepreneurship is one of the biggest evolving one. One can’t count anymore the possibilities, nor predict WHAT will be next professions! SO, WHAT does this mean for EDUcation!?
EDUcation can’t follow, nor adapt THAT quickly, without talking about the minds behind WHO don’t want to change as well!!! SO, is there any possibility for students, learners, THEY could be benefiting with and/for an Up-To-Date knowledge!? YES, there is a solution: students and learners should get taught about <===> LEARNing-To-LEARN <===> so that they would be able for <===> Life-Long LEARNing, this is THE BEST way to look for a <===> Long-Term solution <===> as one can’t get ALL the necessary knowledge anymore in schools!!
WE should go on <===> Proactive THINKing <===> to adjust this well known situation and to adapt by teaching the students learners the way of <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> and to encourage them to become autodidacts, self-directed learners! That’s THE BEST way for them to stay <===> Up-To-Date <===> and that’s WHAT is counting in a modern and ever growing society! The workforce/industry needs this to be competitive!
FIRST of all WE need to know WHAT are the skills students need to have

There is a Windows dominance on the market!!! SO, don’t use ONLY Apple products in your school, BUT make for sure that YOUR LEARNers, Students will know and have the skills to work on that “OS”; of course you might use as well iPads! BUT make sure that there is a mix of different “OS” anyway. As educational persons WE have a BIG Responsibility to prepare OUR Students, LEARNers for the future! NO Cherry-Picking allowed!!! NO preferences for #AnyOS#AnyDevice!!! A mixture of THEM YES, orientated about WHAT “OS” is leading the market.
How can EDUcators TEACHers and EDU understand WHAT Modern EDU is!?
Well, there are some really good books which will help EDUcators TEACHers to understand WHAT Modern-EDU and NEW pedagogy is to be prepared for THE CHANGE; YES it is a BIG CHANGE which might not be easy for lots as THE role of the EDUcators TEACHers will change; NOT having anymore the control, the power, of a classroom BUT being a coach WHO is trying to get a win-win situation TOGETHER with the learners, students. Personally I think that fearing to lose the control and power is the common point for most educating persons for NOT adapting to Modern-EDU!
BUT, THAT is wrong! You will get even more recognized and respected WHEN you play the coach role; my experience over ten (10) years. Put the students in the drivers seat, let them teach also and learn also from them 😉

How to become GREAT Teachers, EDUcators which understand about Modern-EDU?

There are TOO MANY average (Mediocrity) EDUcators TEACHers around, Students and LEARNers need BETTER!!! Educational persons SHOULD read the below curated articles and finding out on WHAT they have to improve, please 😉
As already mentioned in my first phrases of this blog post, with normal training for “Professional Development”, YOU can’t catch UP quickly enough!! SO, are there different ways? YES, by using Social Media, especially Twitter YOU can create a #PLN, a “Personal [Professional] Learning Network” from where YOU can learn already together, even ALSO by using Twitter Chats.
BUT there is ALSO another way: using blogs! Sounds strange? Well, with “WordPress” this is possible as YOU can invite co-authors on the same blog post and coaching over Twitter with “DM” (Direct Messages, called ALSO Private Messages) YOUR co-authors. I do this already since 2007-2008, started it on “Google Knol”, who was discontinued on May 1, 2012 where I was one of the Knol-TOP10-English authors and also Author-of-the-Week in November 2009 with more than 1.4 millions of visits. “Google Knol” is one of LOTS of OTHER products from Google WHO are on the “Google Grave Yard“!

Later I started blogging on WordPress and as I missed it working together with OTHERS, I did my coaching with EDUcators, TEACHers from different countries by inviting THEM to become co-authors on some of my blog posts. I was the editor and THEY were the co-authors, meaning they had a bit restrictions ONLY on WHAT to do with the main blog. SO, THEY learned about the How-To to use blogs (WordPress) through my coaching and ALSO about THE TOPIC WE were writing about; the coaching was done through Twitter “DM’s”; WE used blogs AND Twitter!
I did a LOT of those “Global-Collaboration” on blogging with different co-authors and I encourage everybody to do the same as it is a GREAT experience as one learns from each other 😉
WHAT could be done different while using ICT and NEW Pedagogy

Well, that is a question I get asked very often; it is actually NOT that difficult, it just needs to understand WHAT Modern-EDU is and WHAT are THE tools (NO, NO, NOT Apps…, THEY are ONLY facilitators) WE can use to give OUR Students, LEARNers the necessary skills to survive in an ever changing world.
SO many information, THE letter “I” in ICT, I can’t follow anymore!! Well, as I am watching a lot of blogs from EDUcators, TEACHers, I analyze that THEY are NOT back-linking as I do (see links above WHO are back-linking) to other published blog posts…); well that is a MUST as YOU have an audience of readers (EDUcators, TEACHers, Students, parents…) WHO want to know how it is run the BEST possible way!
From EDUcators, TEACHers, Professors, Instructors one expects that THEY know THE right way to do it!! THEY have a certified diploma for TEACHing, isn’t it!? 😉 THUS meaning: NOT ONLY publishing <===> Half-Baked stuff <===> BUT first getting informed (search skills on Search-Engines [Google, etc.]) and by curation to find BEST results and LEARNing (especially understanding it!!) from it before publishing!! DON’T forget <===> YOU have an audience of readers (EDUcators, TEACHers, Students, parents…) WHO want to know how it is run the BEST possible way!
VERY rarely (I am lurking on Twitter Chats as also participating…) I see THAT EDUcators, TEACHers and students DON’T know (too lazy???) the HELP and SUPPORT of blog service, such as mentioned below from WordPress e.g.:
Let us come back to the TOPIC. Once created a blog YOU need to GET it known as YOU want that your content gets read by people; SO WHAT to do to get an audience!? BEST PracTICE is to be on Social-Media, especially on Twitter as well as to make curation; both work perfectly together! You DON’T know WHAT curation is, nor Twitter!??? Anybody has a story to tell, WE see it anyway on the comments made on Social Media Facebook and Twitter, SO WHY NOT creating a blog post about it to share YOUR point of view, YOUR learning and YOUR ideas!? Blogging is a GREAT way of sharing the thoughts of someone and it will be very GOOD for learning about <===> Critical THINKing and Proactive THINKing <===> actually a MUST in 21st Century! Society has changed A LOT because of ICT, and SO are the ways of learning and the need to show ALSO OTHERS WHAT’S wrong and WHAT are NEW ideas to make it BETTER! Use ALSO blogging after each “Twitter Chat” to reflect on it, see <===> Update Twitter Chats: WHAT To DO BETTER!?
Use blogging to show YOUR thoughts, WHERE YOU feel uncomfortable, use blogging to show YOUR passions, YOUR hobbies, it will get indexed by the internet and YOUR voice will get further, it will get amplified through the Search Engines; BUT respect the Ethics and Netiquette, as ALSO the Copyright!!!

It’s time to reflect on the way HOW they get used; are THEY used correctly OR are they ONLY reflecting the use of Technology WITH OLD EDUcation Mentality!?
Well, I must say (sadly…) that Twitter-Chats are mostly used with THE OLD EDUcation Mentality! Thus meaning: there isn’t any reflection about the published posts, NO analyzing about WHAT was understood and WHAT NOT!!! And that is a shame which needs to get done BETTER!
It’s a feeling like being back again in time WHERE a lesson was taught and nothing later happend, excuse-me please: that is NOT #ModernEDU!!!
WHAT needs to get changed for BETTER!?
Well, I don’t go too far into NEW Pedagogy and an Up-To-Date Professional Development (will provide links for further reading below…) and just tell YOU WHAT SHOULD be done different; let us take ALSO a look on the picture below, my advice:

Once a month make a break with Twitter-Chats and provide a blog post with reflecting on the weeks before; analyze the posts and give tips, advice for doing, learning BETTER…
Make it a Twitter-Chat by including the blog post and use it as a Twitter-Chat to get feedback on the analyzing…
Update YOUR blog post with the feedback given…
Create ALSO in this blog post the best links, resources provided by the tweeps (participants in the Twitter-Chats)…
Show the archives from that month on YOUR reflecting blog post…
Create an “End of The Year” blog post after 12 month, reflecting the whole year of Twitter-Chats…
Create a keyword list in these blog posts about the Topics…
Create a list of the tweeps: Twitter username with link to the tweeps, so that the readers can connect directly with the participants… YOU may use Twitter-lists to do so…
…
By doing the above YOU will know MORE about on the How-To the Twitter-Chats were understood, WHAT did the learners, students learn, WHAT are THEY asking for HELP <===> WHO is YOUR audience…
Check ALSO “Updated Twitter knowledge” with less abbreviations and international sensitivity about certain abbreviations…

Through ICT the Real-World and especially the Virtual-World (both are influencing each other…) are changing quicker then WE can learn about, BUT WE must adapt to it and so must EDUcation! MY experience described in ONLY some phrases: Give the LEARNers, students (whatever age) the freedom of LEARNing without squeezing THEM into a FRAME and concentrate on guiding them as a coach by analyzing THEIR behavior and show them the How-To to become self-directed learners, autodidacts. SHOW THEM ALSO up from the beginning WHAT THE <===> LEARNing Path <===> will be with design of it and explain THEM that they could design themselves it with a short introduction on the How-To. THEY will learn the ICT-PracTICE which will help them once out of the <===> #SchoolCocoon <===> to be ready for Life-Long LEARNing and to be able to adapt very quickly in the workforce! WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?
Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===>Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!?
YOU won’t have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? 😉
I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!
