Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.
Safer Internet Day 2020 will be celebrated on Tuesday 11 February 2020, with the strapline of ===> “Together for a better internet” <=== following the success of last year’s campaign.
My participation for the SID2020
WHAT is special this year with my participation on SID2020?
I created a ===> #GlobalCollaboration blog in 2017 <=== from @knolinfos (my pseudo on twitter) & @ICTPHMS& @kimmindy7 for #LEARNing about #DigitalCitizenShip. The authors are from Luxembourg/Europe (me), one female teacher from the USA and a male teacher from the USA WHO are using my blog post to learn together and sharing THEIR practice with YOU dear readers.
Well, there is a lot of different views about ===> Digital CitiZENship <=== WE will explore WHAT could be THE BEST way to teach and to learn about Digital CitiZENship (hashtag on Twitter is #digcit).
How does it come that I post Global-Collaboration blog posts? Well, once the #ProfessionalDevelopment is Upto-Date, one does understand THAT learning in a team brings out a win-win situation and that a generation exchange is benefit for all of the participants as anyone learns from each other. BTW: here below other Global-Collaboration blogs with teaching persons from Australia, USA, France, Luxembourg (me):

Strange, I make an introduction about Hygiene in an Cyber-Security Blog, ISN’T it?!! Well, there is a reason behind:
WHEN WE use a computer, Smartphone and/or any OTHER technical device (such as cars as well…) WE need to take care of them! AND our body? The same: WE need to have the daily reflexes to make for sure that WE don’t expose it to invasions of bacteria, virus, etc. Examples given: brushing teeth, showers, washing the hands after a toilet go, washing the hands before and after a meal, etc. Wearing a Condom when having sex, a necessary protection! Well OUR condom for the technical devices is the Anti-Virus, a MUST for Any-devices!!! Any-Devices, Apple as well?!!! YES!!! Please check the WHY in my Curation below please:
WE are used to these reflexes, aren’t WE?! At least WE should be!! SO, for computers, Laptops, Smartphones, tablets (iPads etc.), IoT devices (Smart-Home), WE should do the same, they costs a LOT of money and expensive stuff should get taken care of!! THE OTHER reason as well is, THAT WE are using the internet with THEM and so WE are meeting OTHER people with OUR technical device (which ever one it is…).
SO, that exactly the same as WHEN WE are meeting (as persons) OTHER people in Real-World: WHEN WE have a flu, WE will infect OTHER persons with it and an epidemic will occur!! WHEN OUR technical devices (which ever one it is…), connected to the internet, are NOT Up-To-date with the latest Updates they are vulnerable to threats (see it as a virus, e.g.) and once infected, WE will infect ALL the OTHERS as well (epidemic…)!!
As WE use these #AnyDevices with #AnyOS on a daily base, WE SHOULD be aware and develop a sense of Responsibility to protect each other!
Well, the above written is ONLY an introduction, please read my Blog posts in different languages (EN, FR, DE):

Through ICT the Real-World and especially the Virtual-World (both are influencing each other…) are changing quicker then WE can learn about, BUT WE must adapt to it and so must EDUcation! Therefore Universities must do research about the How-To to adapt and teaching about it… Luxembourg, a small country in Europe is doing so in September 2016, read more:
Luxembourg has already a “strategy to promote media literacy” as I got told in an interview, see image below please and click on the image to access the article.

.
There is ALSO Finland WHO made a radical change to its EDUcation-Sytem, check below please: Finland uses <===> Phenomenon based learning
Meanwhile, before research finishes its studies, WE can already have a look on WHAT is NEW in Technology and WHAT probably would be of interest for EDUcation, as well as NEW Pedagogy Theories and NEW Trends:
Because of the internet and Social Media there is NOW ALSO a new way of learning through collaboration, Global Collaboration, Peer-To-Peer Learning, mentoring, coaching:
WHEN WE talk about “Entrepreneurship“, then WE MUST ALSO talking about “Blockchain and Bitcoin” as THEY are a Game-Changer in the future, check below please:
AND as WE are using ICT: internet with iPad, tablet, smartphones, laptops, PCs, Macs, small computers such as Arduino,Raspberry PI and Co, the “Internet of Things” WE MUST ALSO have basics knowledge of “CyberSecurity“, check below please:
MY experience described in ONLY some phrases: Give the LEARNers, students (whatever age) the freedom of LEARNing without squeezing THEM into a FRAME and concentrate on guiding them as a coach by analyzing THEIR behavior and show them the How-To to become self-directed learners, autodidacts. SHOW THEM ALSO up from the beginning WHAT THE <===> LEARNing Path <===> will be with design of it and explain THEM that they could design themselves it with a short introduction on the How-To. THEY will learn the ICT-PracTICE which will help them once out of the <===> #SchoolCocoon <===> to be ready for Life-Long LEARNing and to be able to adapt very quickly in the workforce! WHEN YOU show the LEARNers, students <===> WHAT the profit is for THEIR private life <===> YOU will engage them very quickly 😉 AND DON’T teach THEM more as necessary, propose them some links to go further ONLY for those who want!!
.
WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?
Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===>Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! In the modern world YOU will change YOUR job probably +/- 12 times in YOUR working career, it is very rare to stay life-long in the same job and/or same company!!! SO… The workforce is looking for people with ICT skills which YOU mostly didn’t learn at school, right!?
YOU won’t have (mostly) the time to learn by visiting courses, right!? START to become Life-Long LEARNers by LEARNing on YOUR OWN pace, by becoming <===> Autodidacts <===> Self-Directed LEARNers. YOU are able to, I did it, so can YOU!? 😉
I found a job because of my ICT eSkills and I am STILL LEARNing on a daily base routine for being Up-To Date with my <===> Professional Development <===>, even being retired NOW! THE pleasure of LEARNing!
I did THE <===> ICT PracTICE <===> and THAT’S WHAT the workforce needs!!!
Due to my eSkills I could share my knowledge AND expertise ALSO with the below mentioned as well as to a broad range of visitors from around the globe!
AND check my profile below as well, at the bottom of this blog post please! 😉

PracTICE: How DOES The Internet Help ME In My Private Life, Professional Development, Job AND Career
I am a pioneer and was always one of the first to try out NEW stuff since my young age, very curious about it WHAT that could be and WHAT would be my advantage to use it. Let us call it <===> Learning By Doing <===> to get some knowledge, skills and experience out of that adventure 😉 Did I say <===> adventure!? <===> YES, it is actually! An adventure to discover NEW stuff where one doesn’t know where it will end 😉 BUT it is a BIG fun ALSO and one learns a lot through it! This attitude brings one ALSO to a <===> Life-Long LEARNing <===> strategy which I wouldn’t miss, whatever age one has! I am actually (2015) aged sixty (60), retired since 2014 (pedagogical/andragogical ICT Instructor) and STILL learning on a daily base as it is a pleasure for me.
It is ALSO a pleasure for me to share my knowledge with OTHERS (especially EDU related people) on Social Media Twitter, through curation and blogging. The internet (I started 1998) is a GREAT resource and a wonderful <===> Virtual World<===> which needs to get discovered and where WE need to know ALSO its dangers, same as in <===> Real World <===> let us call it <===> Awareness and Digital CitiZENship!
Before WE start, the above title is a long one, let us break it down to the different Topics: private life, Professional Development, job and career.
How Does The Internet Help ME In My Private Life!?
As already mentioned I started using the internet in 1998 with a very slow 56k Dial-Up Modem(which made ALSO a lot of noise…) and I found out about the search engines and the How-To to find information on it. Then I discovered about Cyber Security problems, virus and Co by reading specialized Computer-Magazines. YES, that existed already at that time!!! I was telling OTHERS about those threats; THEY told me that I am crazy as THEY didn’t realize its existence! SO… I continued learning about it and I became a vigilant internet user. Knowledge and skills which I developed through the years, see on the bottom of this blog post, please. BUT, as a normal user, how can the internet help me in my private life!?
Well, a lot actually: I can check for Restaurants, I can book my holidays online, I can buy stuff online, I can book nearly WHATEVER I want online, I can search for BEST prices online for WHATEVER, I can prepare my holidays with special interactive maps (ThingLink), I can use “Google maps” to find my way, even with “Streetmap” which makes my traveling much easier, I can find cooking and baking recipes as well as tutorials on YouTube, I can share my experience and life experience through blogging and curation…
How Does The Internet Help ME In My Professional Development!?
Because of the internet I have a 24/7 access and I can learn whenever, wherever I want: SO… I can plan my learning on my OWN pace, alone as an autodidact (self-directed learning) and/or through Social Media Twitter. I use curation on each day and I develop through curation my <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management. I use ALSO blogging with WordPress. And I use Twitter as well. Through the internet I learn much more quicker, especially through <===> curation!
I found a new job because of my ICT skills, even that I became an “pedagogical/andragogical ICT course instructor“, check below please for the full story:

WHAT’S my message and WHY did I create this blog post!?
Firts of all I get a lot of profit out of the internet and the connections which I make with others: Well, I will encourage all youth and also adults, seniors, oldies to become <===>Life-Long LEARNers <===> and staying Up-To-Date with their knowledge, especially concerning their skills in ICT, called NOW <===> #eSkills <===>! CyberHygiene For Beginners, Easy To follow Steps For Anyone | Reflexes To Get Used To
.
Internet safety is the responsibility of EVERYONE! It isn’t actually THAT difficult to apply a healthy behavior on the internet to stay secure, one needs to have some reflexes, daily reflexes… Let us call them <===> CyberHygiene <===> as they are about care anyway.
WHAT do WE have to take care about!? Check below please:
.
Updates about our “Operating System” (OS)
Updates about so-called “Third Party Programs”
Back-up from our files and/or the whole Hard Disk
Installation of protection-software, anti-malware, anti-spyware tools included…
Protection of our privacy
Encryption
Secure Passwords
…
MOST of the above mentioned are automated tasks, SO NO way to NOT use THEM 😉 GET used to IT! GET the reflexes!
For more in depth knowledge, check below please (more theory):
Chose a day in the week where YOU control YOUR updates and YOUR computers & mobiles security! I suggest the Friday, as I created on Twitter the “Friday Security Check Day“, hashtag = #FSCD. Get used to it on any Friday, get THE reflex!
On any second Tuesday on each month Microsoft and Adobe publish new updates, install THEM! THEY are a MUST! It’s the Patch-Tuesday!
Introduce a pledge in YOUR family, where every family member MUST sign and accept it! It will give a Community feeling and RESPONSIBILITY!

If I Would OWN a Company, WHAT Skills Would I Expect From MY Workers In 21st Century!?
Because of ICT there are sooooo many NEW possibilities to use with the computers and the internet. Just imagine that a company owner should employ people for each special application, NO WAY! (S)He wouldn’t have enough money to afford it!!! So it is necessary that <===> the 21st Century worker/employee would be an all-rounder! <===> An all-rounder WHO comes straight out of school and from whom the business/workforce could profit directly!!!
WHAT would be these skills the business/workforce will need!?
First of ALL it SHOULD be an AWARENESS about the Cyber Security problems WHO could happen and WHO could destroy a company and/or a companies reputation! <===> Forewarned is Forearmed! <===> is the BEST protection as it is anchored in the mind! WE will discuss this in the next chapter in depth!
Sometimes it is necessary as well to edit some text in a Word (or else Open Source) document and to use ALSO photos in these documents: SO… WE need to have knowledge about <===> Copyright <===>, photo editing and publishing as well as the how-to to transform these documents into a PDF.
A company, to stay competitive, needs ALSO to know WHAT is going on on the global market and needs to be up-to-date with latest NEWS, WHAT would be BETTER than making <===> curation <===> about it and to share these knowledge internally in the company through an intranet!? SO, my employees SHOULD know how to make curation which THEY could use as well for THEIR OWN learning by using a PKM <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management <===> https://globaleducationandsocialmedia.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/pkm-personal-professional-knowledge-management/.
AND as WE as a company need to be up-to-date by using ICT WE SHOULD ALSO being able to create a blog from where WE inform OUR customers about WHAT is NEW in OUR company and eventually report ALSO about warnings, awareness about some products, as well as through OUR blog informing OUR customers through a NEWSLETTER! Those are part of a 21st Century orientated company!
AND didn’t WE forgot something!? WHAT’s about <===> Social Media <===>!? WE as a competitive company SHOULD ALSO be present on Facebook AND on Twitter, isn’t it!? SO… OUR employees SHOULD know ALSO to handle it:
Priority: My Employees SHOULD be Cyber Security Savvy
First of ALL it SHOULD be an AWARENESS about the Cyber Security problems WHO could happen and WHO could destroy a company and/or a companies reputation! <===> Forewarned is Forearmed! <===> is the BEST protection as it is anchored in the mind! It is called <===> Proactive THINKing!
Searching on Google and/or on other Search Engines (allowed in the company or NOT) will happen and could infect the computer and EVEN the whole company IT infrastructure WHEN an employee doesn’t know WHAT s(he) is doing!!! SO… Better is that the employees know WHAT are the dangers and my company as well SHOULD have installed on ALL the computers different awareness and protection software, here my advice:
How Could EDUcation Teach Students To Get These skills!?
.
In a modern, very quick changing world because of ICT, EDUcation MUST follow to provide the business/workingforce with workers/employees WHO have the necessary skills, EVEN WITHOUT knowing WHAT next jobs would be!MOST say that it isn’t possible and a BIG challenge, BUT a challenge WHO actually is MORE easy by following my advice by reading my blog posts:
In case IF (MOST probably have…) YOU would have problems to GET the necessary as mentioned in my posts made into action in YOUR EDU-System, read the below advice:
As mentioned already in the above infographic there is a need to work in a team, collaboration AND Global-Collaboration (with manufacturers, re-sellers…) are a MUST! EVEN in the schools Global-EDUcation is a MUSTto make the students, learners ready to get used to it 😉
I made several Global-Collaboration on blogging for <===> LEARNing To LEARN <===> about <===> Digital CitiZENship and Cyber Security <===> with @dpkirsch and @EduInspirations, check below please:
WHEN being involved to work in a team, WE need to get used to it as well as to THE letter “C” in ICT, which means <===> Communication <===> as BOTH are part of an efficient work relationship which is necessary for the wealth of a company!
IF EDUcation Doesn’t Give ME WHAT I Want, How Could I Coach MY Workers To LEARN
Well,as already mentioned above, my advice is STILL THE SAME, please check:
Before Starting With Coding WE MUST know first the IMPORTANCE and the big RESPONSIBILITY about ===> Coding <===! Responsibility while Coding, sounds STRANGE, isn’t it!?
Well, I think the BEST way to explain YOU WHY ===> Proactive THINKing and RESPONSIBILITY is a MUST <=== in Education, is to show YOU some examples on WHAT happens WHEN code goes wrong!

Keywords necessary for me to create this blog post (preparation / brain storming):Respect, CyberSecurity, NO UNDERDOGS, win-win situation, NO HIERARCHY, NO MIDDLE AGES THINKING, OPEN MINDED, OPEN for CHANGE, OPEN for ADAPTING to 21st Century, eSkills, eLeadership, CyberSecurity Awareness, Digital Citizen, NEW ways of communication, THE letter “C” in ICT, ICT PracTICE,
ICT, Internet, Internet Of Things, Internet Of Everything, Wearables And WiFi Change OUR Habits
WE are living in a very quick changing world as the internet opens NEW possibilities, NOT ONLY for searching and publishing. WE are talking actually a lot about the ===> Internet of Things, Internet of Everything <=== whereby a lot of people have it already at home without knowing WHAT it actually is! So, does ALSO EDUcation which need to adapt to it as the internet is a common right for anyone. EDUcation is STILL looking on the How-To to implement it for LEARNing and TEACHing and (like usual…) struggling and behind that evolution, an evolution that is NOT temporary but will certainly go much further when one is watching on each day (thanks to the internet) the NEW discoveries, new technology, new materials based on Nano-Technology.WHAT was true YESTERDAY isn’t anymore TODAY! Therefore it is important, actually a MUST, that in EDUcation the students, learners, will get prepared for the (not so anymore unknown) near future, they MUST get prepared for ===> LEARNing-To-LEARN <===, to be able to adapt their knowledge by daily routines, they will become ===> Life-Long-LEARNing <=== persons!
Well, there is WiFi nearly everywhere NOW, isn’t it? And WiFi is FREE in most places, right? AND nearly everybody has a Smartphone, right? SO, thus meaning: when people talk to each other (WHEN NOT using their Smartphones…) it happens sometimes (OR often…) that the persons are asking questions which couldn’t get answered instantly, so… opening the browser on the Smartphone, searching and finding it, as well as maybe sending that answer to the talking partner through the internet to get visible on their Smartphone. Got it?
.
.
AND the NEW trend to use wearables who communicate to each other by using “Bluetooth” and/or an internet connection? WE spend a lot of time by watching and using OUR NEW toys (wearables, Smartphones, tablets…), is there a NEW message on Facebook, on Twitter, on any other Social Media…? A lot of people (if NOT MOST…) are already on dependency! Ask THEM WHAT they would do without THEIR so loved toys and without the internet!?

SO… YOU might have understood already, WE are using the internet nearly for everything in our days AND WE are sharing a lot, thus meaning: Are WE aware of WHAT WE are sharing? Is the shared NOT infected with Malware!? How many of OUR Privacy are WE sharing!? WHAT happens with infected computers, tablets, wearables, and Smartphones!? WHAT’S the reason for WHY WE get nearly any service for FREE!? Aren’t WE getting too paranoid about CyberSecurity!? Aren’t WE NOT too naif while using technology without understanding it!?
A lot of questions, isn’t it!? AND there is a reason why fore, check below, please:
This implies ALSO to OUR way of THINKing about the technology and ICT, WE MUST develop a sense of Awareness for CyberSecurity and Privacy! ===> LEARNing-To-LEARN <===
« Good habits formed at youth make all the difference. »Aristotle
YOU are STILL feeling YOUNG, aren’t YOU 😉
.
HOW Could This Be Taught?
Well, it is actually NOT THAT difficult at all. Parents can start this with their kids in a very early age and EDUcation can start it ALSO up from primary school; it’s ONLY a question of ===> GOOD WILL <=== 😉
