SID2019: Safer Internet Day 2019-Participation

Safer Internet Day 2019 – Save the date!.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world.

Safer Internet Day 2019 will be celebrated on Tuesday 05 February 2019, with the strapline of ===> “Together for a better internet” <=== following the success of last year’s campaign.

WHAT is special this year with my participation on SID2019?

I created a ===> #GlobalCollaboration #blog in 2017 <=== from @knolinfos (my pseudo on twitter) & @ICTPHMS & @kimmindy7 for #LEARNing about #DigitalCitizenShip. The authors are from Luxembourg/Europe (me), one female teacher from the USA and a male teacher from the USA WHO are using my blog post to learn together and sharing THEIR practice with YOU dear readers.

WHAT Is a Thread On Social Media Twitter and How To Use It For Story Telling? That’s a question one sees very often NOW on Twitter as it is NEW. Let me explain by a practical authentic example WHAT it is good for.

In the Twitter Thread I share a bit about the Culture and traditions of my country Luxembourg in Europe, as well as some touristic tips, music events and WHAT some people eat for Christmas by a step-by-step guide of the How-To to cook it with photos and text explications. Looks to me as WE will live THE same as in 50’s-60’s with “James DEAN“, Living on the edge Youth & Society“, overload of information!? Change? At that time period it was TV, NOW it’s the internet, similarities? Well, I think so!! A NEW media showed up, the internet, and with the internet ALSO Social-Media. MOST of people are just consumers and DON’T see the dangers NOR do THEY accept THEM!! It’s a Virtual-World which THEY can’t imagine about HOW it will have an impact on Real-World!! BOTH, the Virtual-World and the Real-World are influencing each other!

WE are facing actually (2017) “Fake News“, MOST coming and being sponsored by politics interests!!! Just follow “Donald TRUMP’s election campaign and his actually acting…” and YOU will understand WHAT is going on! I encourage YOU to go for “Deep-THINKing” about WHAT is happening in Virtual-World THAT will influence the Real-World!!!

THIS Proactive-Thinking results in getting informed about WHAT is the need from the workforce, industry etc. to make sure that the future workers, employees… will be able to help the country to stay competitive with well educated persons! Especially for NEW jobs who will be created because of ICT, where nearly no one knows WHAT those jobs could be!!

Therefore it is very important that Educators, Teachers focus THEIR Professional Development first on the skills that students, learners need to have!

Social Media Twitter: WHAT Is Its Attraction And WHY Is IT Important For EDUcation!?

First of all, one can’t ignore existing trends which are already existing in Virtual World since ages and one SHOULD adapt for it in Real World, especially in Modern EDUcation! Social Media plays already a BIG role in business, so students, learners need to get taught about twitter and its importance for THEIR future jobs!

WHY teaching something where one has ONLY 140 characters to express themselves!? When I first heard about twitter that’s THE question I was posing myself as well!! But after one year observing and analyzing tweets I changed my mind and I became very active on twitter!!! Make the question DIFFERENT: Just think different, WHAT is the positive side about how to be able to express something with a very short (140 characters) characters!? WHAT is ALSO the value to use Social Media!?

Make an experiment first: try to express yourselves about a topic in a normal writing way; analyze that and try NOW to express THE same in 140 characters! YOUR grey cells are working a lot, isn’t it!? AND THAT is GOOD, YOU will find another way to express YOURSELVES in shorter words and sentences; YOU will be able to synthesize!!

Less talk, talk, talk and more RELEVANT information will be THE result!!! Sounds like QUALITY, isn’t it 😉

On the beginning, YOU will struggle a bit which is quite normal (I did ALSO…), but later YOU will find (after some training…) it interesting and even like it as a challenge… And BTW, if YOU can’t express it with ONLY one tweet (post on twitter), there is another possibility; check my blog post, please <===> Updated Twitter Knowledge

THE CHANGE: Trend in EDUcation to Make EDUcators TEACHers MORE Professional

Trend in EDUcation to Make EDUcators TEACHers MORE Professional

Since I follow EDUcators, TEACHers on Social Media twitter (2009), I must admit that too many of them (a lot) are on a Mediocrity status, even on a BAD status, which is no more acceptable in 21st Century!! Using Social Media twitter and others (new technologies…) to forward OLD, outdated mentality!, with a NOT up-to-date Professional Development and a lack of modern Pedagogy!!

This post is NOT mentioned for bashing, BUT to go for Deep-Thinking about the profession of EDUcators, TEACHers and its evolution.

BUT they are showing up as being superior to all others; blocking other experienced education related persons which give them feedback for better ways, and building up a PLN (Personal [Professional] Learning Network) with the same interests and same mentality where everybody is endorsing each member with ONLY nice talking, feedback is NOT welcome.

THEY want to shine on the web, presenting themselves as a golden statue, whereby the core is wooden and the surface is ONLY gold plated! 😉 The trend is to create Twitter-Chats for Professional Development, which is GOOD anyway, BUT by continuing with a “Fixed Mindset” by using modern technology and Social Media is NOT professional at all!! OH YES, EDUcators, TEACHers are ALSO narcissistic persons, even probably more as youth and career driven. Being humble isn’t their force, arrogance is present on a daily basis…!

And as most of you know me, a related music 😉

The trend overall on the globe is to use ONLY EdTech and apps and the Modern Pedagogy isn’t used at all!! That’s the wrong way!!

With that “Fixed Mind” they stay on the “Status Quo” as their outdated … is ONLY transferred by just using modern technology! In Modern-Education it’s about the learners, students; it’s about “Learning-To-Learn”!

Schools and EDUcation can’t follow anymore that quick as quick the Real-World is changing constantly and nobody knows actually WHAT will be NEW tomorrow!

There is a SHIFT needed, and THAT shift needs to be done in the mind, check below, please.

NEW Words, Trends to Know and to LEARN about in 21st Century

Are YOU feeling overwhelmed with strange words, NEW trends, when you are reading and following posts, tweets, articles about/and in Social Media!? Well, I can understand YOU!!! There are SO MUCH, if I wouldn’t do curation, I wouldn’t understand it anymore as well, to be honest! 😉 Through my daily curation I see it and I read those articles, from WHERE I learn a lot as an autodidact. WHEN there are some words which I DON’T understand I am going MOSTLY to Wikipedia to find its explication and if NOT sufficient, I use GOOGLE and other online resources to know MORE about it!

For ME it’s THE BEST way (Curation) to learn and to stay up-to-date with my Professional Development! I tried out a lot of different ways after being online since 1998 and believe me, please, it’s the fastes way to keep it UP! 😉 Through Curation I build up my <===> PKM <===> Personal [Professional] Knowledge Management from where I can use it in ANY of my blogs, twitter posts and other Social Media to share it to people willing to learn.

Dynamic Learning

Does your classroom offer one-and-done types of learning activities, or does the learning grow, inspire, and evolve throughout the year and beyond? With digital tools like G Suite for Education that are available 24/7, the learning doesn’t have to stop when the bell rings at the end of class, or when the worksheet is turned in, or even when the school year ends. The learning takes on a life of its own; it becomes dynamic. This concept alone should change the way you think about learning in general and change the way you facilitate learning in the classroom.

Through Curation, Social Media twitter and by building a PLN this is perfectly possible!

BTW : Did YOU actually realize that NOW it’s the PracTICE WHICH is dominating the Real-World before it EVEN is taught by EDUcation, a BIG CHANGE, isn’t it!!! Because of Entrepreneurship (bold actions…) the internet helped to CHANGE the world and flipped EDUcation to bring it MORE close to the needs of the workforce/Industry!!!

The NEW Pedagogy is MORE about the learners, students and to put THEM into the drivers seat; looking to find a Win-Win situation about THE How-To to GET THEM learning together in a team (EVEN outside the School-Cocoon with Social Media…) and to prepare THEM for the workforce/labor/industry by being able for <===> Learning-To-Learn <===> for a Life-Long Learning once out of school!

WHY is Proactive-Thinking IMPORTANT and a MUST in Modern-Education with and about ICT!?

In the last twenty (20) years Technology has changed a lot; with the internet and the use of ICT by nearly everybody around the world… ICT is present everywhere, nearly anybody is using smartphones, the internet, Social-Media and in the schools slowly but surely BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is getting accepted and ALSO used in courses. The same in Supermarkets: QR-Codes are nearly on any products, special QR-Codes on advertising panels to attract the customers for new products… BTW: by seeing how much people are running around in the Supermarkets with THEIR Smartphones switched on and talking with whom ever, (secretly) installed Beacons follow YOUR actions and show YOU over Advertising messages on YOUR Smartphones WHERE to GO for YOUR shopping preferences!!

It is a booming market for commercials to sell NEW products about ICT, IoT (Internet of Things) and anything else related to ICT; BUT there are NO laws and regulations (YET) about THE dangers by using THEM! As the MOST sold devices are already connecting to the internet (Smart-TVs, fridge, cameras, household devices…) the users just buy and DON’T get advised about Cyber-Security and Privacy dangers; which is seriously a BIG SHAME and a MUST!! :(((

How can that naivety be changed!?

Well, first let us say that the word <===> naivety <===>ISN’T a bad word! Let us have a look on its definition:

The users (WE) get confronted with new technical stuff which the manufacturers bring on the market without respecting a minimum of Cyber-Security and/or without the necessary knowledge about it!! THEIR main thing is to make money… That’s NOT serious, but so it is handled, as NO (NOT YET…) international laws are existing…

SO, problem is known since very long, BUT NO solutions YET provided!! Here comes NOW <===> #ProactiveTHINKING <===> in action…

As people, users (WE) didn’t get an education about Cyber-Security (in most countries…) Proactive-THINKing should be part of the curriculum of any Modern-EDUcation system which works with and about ICT!!

First of all I would recommend (mandatory) to teach first <===> Critical-THINKing <===> as it is THE base for quality <===> Proactive-THINKing!!

WE are living in a world WHERE WE need more than EVER to work together and to forget about the selfish!!! In any company WHERE OUR students, learners need to work THEY will need to have <===> Soft-Skills <===> the ability to work in a team, with collaboration skills, being able to adapt with a multicultural environment…

Actually MOST Educators, Teachers are nearly NOTHING ELSE as <===> Herd Mentality followers <===> and are following the ones who have chosen THE WRONG path, with a lot (as usual) talk, talk, talk without efficient come out on Social-Media; BUT STILL continuing!!! Since MORE than fifty (50) years it is like THAT (EVEN without Social-Media at that time…), so WHY changing!??? Sounds hard!??? About time THEN to go for serious analyzing and deep-thinking YOUR OWN habits and especially online postings on Social-Media!! It’s about time to get realistic and to accept the reality!! Once the degree, diploma in the pocket and having a secured place in schools, teachers and educators feel like GODS and block anything what THEY think might get THEM away from THEIR control over students, learners and OTHERS with a different mentality! Same ALSO for having contact and listen to advice from industry, working force; which is actually a MUST!! Educators, teachers need to go more for collaboration to ensure that their learners, students will get the appropriate skills and knowledge to survive in an ever quick growing world.

Educators, teachers are following online ONLY (like in a herd mentality…) THE ones WHO THEY think give THEM BEST advice about WHAT Modern-EDUcation is: BUT those ones are THE ones WHERE THEIR <===> Professional Development <===> is FAR BEHIND!! THEY even haven’t read the latest books about pedagogy of Modern-EDUcation and are following on a stubborn way and leading to a wrong way!!
